Gonna install a Chamberlain MyQ smart garage door adapter in the next week or so. I picked it up b/c Google Assistant integration is currently free (normally $1/month). I'm gonna watch some yt videos, but anyone who has one, please chime in with anything I should know that the instructions might not have.
I pay for 1000 b/c it's not much more than the lower packages, to boot, I just found out b/c I have this package - I will get HBO Max for free when it launches next month. Anything above 50/75 will meet the basic needs, but I'd go for 100-400 or so If available. Seemingly more and more markets and providers are offering speeds in this range. Same goes for fiber/1000, for those that want to pay for it.
yeah I pay $95 with att for a gig line. It's great. new house only has comcast, so probably just going to do that again. It's about the same price
Don't even fuck around with videos or instruction manuals. Call their tech support line right away. It is awesome though, never have to wonder if you ever left the door open, can check from bed, etc. Also really nice when I mow and in the morning when I take the dogs for a walk.
I have one and it’s fantastic. I have an older one and it’s simple. Plug and play. You plug it into the router and hit the learn button was all I remember. You can open and close from the app. I no longer have remotes in any vehicle. It came with the keypad and a battery backup so if the power drops I can still get the door open.
I needed to modify settings on my iphone to allow it to work. I wrestled with it for about two hours because I'm an asshole like that. I was on the phone for 10 minutes max.
well, I went ahead and did it tonight. I don't know if it's something new with the instructions, but it worked out of the box, no calls or googling necessary. Thanks THF Willpépé I have google assistant integration set up, no CC input. I hope they roll out Google Home integration soon, instead of just goggle assistant.
As an IT guy, I agree with this. After shopping around for a DOCSIS 3.1 modem for awhile I said fuck it and just decided to keep paying the $5/mo rental fee for the modem from the ISP.
switched our homeowner's insurance to USAA in August, and already had to file two claims to repair broken pipes under the foundation, both of which were around $6k. We got a hail storm last night that probably did slight damage to the roof. Would we be in danger of getting dropped if I need to file a hail claim? In the 15 years we've owned this home I've only had to do two claims prior to this, this is just bad timing.
I doubt it. USAA has a pretty good history (Some have soured on them recently). If they are legit, it's just part of the business. I got a dividend back yesterday for Auto claim decreases due to Covid
USAA has been nothing but good to me in the past. I would be shocked if they dropped you. BayouMafia That being said, i haven't had to file a homeowner's claim.
Anybody have any experience with Nest customer support? My Nest-Yale deadbolt works fine in terms of the code working and all that. But I am having trouble integrating it to my Nest App. It worked for a couple of days but has been "offline" ever since. I tried everything simple the "help" section of the app said to do, but nothing is working. Figured I would throw it out to you guys before setting the time aside to call Nest customer support.
you might get hit with a small rate increase but a couple of small 6-8k claims aren't going to get you cancelled. I deal with people every day who have multiple 20k+ claims in the span of a year or two who still haven't been cancelled. Not USAA, but still.
Try resetting the device. Senior nest agents are great and equipped. I would rate as INC on the front line ones.
A couple of questions. My house has a large, older deck. I pressure washed it and am preparing to strip and whiten it. Some of the boards are too far gone and need to be replaced. I understand that i need to use a fairly dark stain so that the new and old boards blend together. I am a little hesitant to go too dark because that could make it to hot to stand on during some hot Oklahoma days. Anyone have recommendations?
I used a walnut colored stain and its not too bad I'm usually not out on it when the direct sun is hitting it though
That is my guess too, any other owners willing to substantiate? I know the products that home depot has generally look very flimsy.
When I do my patio shortly I’m going with a wired low voltage system. Haven’t picked a brand yet. Like what inlite shows on their website.
I’ve been considering this as well but have zero research. We about to do a bunch of work for the summer. Keep me updated
I put in some solar stuff knowing it was temporary. It was garbage. Half of them worked like half the time. Now have low voltage wired fixtures from WAC Lighting and it is awesome.
Just went through all of this as I am doing a complete overhaul on the landscaping and exterior of my house. Solar is garbage. Go with a low voltage setup. I went with VOLT by recommendation from people. They have kits through costco that are much cheaper than buying through their site. I got them in last week (waiting for lanscaping to go in before setting up) but they are very very good quality. I wired a few up to test them and they look great. https://www.costco.com/outdoor-lighting.html?brand=volt&refine=ads_fbrand_ntk_cs%3A%22VOLT%22
Moving day! 5 movers making quick work of my little house. The 9 he's they quoted will be a massive overshoot. Praise the lord. Probably 2.5hrs to laod everything and I'd have to guess the unload would be quicker. So probably 5hrs
I was just looking at these, I’m going to go with just the 6 piece set for the front. I don’t want the sideways lights. Looks like a great kit.....thanks.
If there’s a leak in an exterior wall, what kind of person can figure that out and where it comes from? Just a general contractor type? I don’t think it’s a roof issue as the leak starts more halfway down the wall but I guess it could be
big rain last night. Paint peeling and water clearly in the wall I feel like it’s that window but not sure obviously
Is there a window near by or above it anywhere? Can you go outside and look above the area where it showed up? Is there a vent pipe or dryer vent or something sticking up through the roof near there? Brick or siding of some kind on the outside? Any damage?
Palladium windows are notoriously bad for being flashed poorly. Look at bigred77 Post and if none of that is applicable, it's probably the window, unless there is plumbing above. Have a GC out to scope out the top/sides of that window. Will almost have to remove some siding. Wind driven rain from an abnormal direction is the worst.
Here’s the immediate outside. I think the gutters need to be looked at as well. We had a roofer out last year and thought we got it, which is why I’m not sure it’s the roof. But yes it could be some combination of the downspouts And I don’t know am why everything is on its side but whatever. I think you can see it
That like 4 roof elevation change transitions right above the leak would be a good set of places to look Those transitions can be difficult to flash properly and if not flashed right it is really hard to tell after the shingles are on top of it all Driving rain and big windows are always issues too
also check that light fixture, it looks like it might be penetrating right about where your water damage is appearing Make sure its caulked nicely over the top and sides against the wall
I, like many others here, suspect the issue is that your roof is on the side of your house. My recommendation would be to put the protective structure (aka the roof) between your house and the sky. For most people this would be the top but different strokes for different folks.
light fixture is too low and window is pretty well sealed. It’s got to be some combination of the roof/flashing and gutters backing up in the rain we had. but that light is in no way caulked unless it’s on the inside
