Hey if I wanted to be rude I'd go back and word doc hundreds of posts over a few threads but I'm not that guy.
the good news is Jimmy has a lifetime deal so if this site is still alive 20 years from now we may yet win these debates!
Oh no, that was definitely about Patterson/Harbuagh. I can work doc if needed. Let's honest, we may cheat but saying we're lousy at it is just incorrect. In fact, we're so good at cheating that you're envious of our cheating. The fat part is mostly right though.
Harbaugh certainly failed to elevate Patterson's game. But even at Ole Miss, Shea was a QB who put up good numbers against shit competition and then shat himself against good competition.
Not really. He had really strong games at a top ten A&M in his first game in 2016 (win) and at #12 Auburn in 2017 (loss). He was okay vs. State in 2016 and terrible at Alabama in 2017. He got hurt in the second quarter against LSU in 2017. He came back into the game, but he could barely walk. He didn't really start completely shitting the bed until he got to Michigan.
Patterson had huge games against 5-7 Vandy '17, 4-8 S.Alabama '17, and FCS UT-Martin --- 73%, 1269 yards, 423 ypg, 11.2 ypa, 13 TD, 1 INT, 1 rush TD. In his other seven games against P5 opponents, Ole Miss went 1-6. Patterson's numbers looked nothing like a 5* QB prospect -- 56%, 1870 yds, 267 ypg, 6.7 ypa, 10 TD, 11 INT, 1 fumble. And that was with one hell of a group of WRs.
Those were A&M, Vanderbilt, State, Cal, Auburn, Alabama, LSU. Neither Vandy ‘16 nor Cal ‘17 (the two I left out of my post because they weren’t good) were shitting the bed. He wasn’t a world beater by any stretch of the imagination, but he definitely regressed at Michigan.
The lack of being chosen by any NFL team after the Combine and all the experts reviewing all his tape probably speaks more highly than the QB’s QBR while in college.
I never argued that he was a good QB or should have been drafted - just that he was the same guy all four years in college. The tape and the numbers both tell that tale.
The bigger crime is either not having a better replacement or not having the balls to make the switch.
True, but what the old saying? If you recruit the best HS player and can't develop him, 4 years later you still just have the best HS player.
Our offense was a joke - we had what should have been two top-10 picks at WR and they both slid to the second round because of how comically inept we ran shit. Shea was good, he had no chance to develop at Ole Miss though. There were constant rumors/commentary about his dad's influence on his development - no idea how accurate that aspect is but it seemed to be a recurring sentiment.
Unlike the classless Michigan fans telling him to hit the golf course I would like to wish the young man good luck
Joe Burrow begs to differ. He was a #1 pick the moment he stepped on Ohio State’s campus. I mean LSU’s campus. Same difference.
In theory, if you're draft eligible like Shea was last year any team can technically draft you. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round of the 2018 MLB draft. He hasn't played baseball since high school.
Yeah, I knew about other sports, but I’ve never heard of a CFL team grabbing the rights for an existing college player.
Neither have I but my guess is we haven't heard about it because we don't actually pay attention to the CFL
Yeah no one gives a shit but there is this https://www.al.com/sports/2018/01/cfls_hamilton_tiger-cats_grab.html just searched first player that jumped in my head
It's a heart-warming success story of a local kid who fulfills his dream of playing QB for Michigan and the Lions.
Is the McCaffrey kid just not any good or was it a case of a head coach staying way too loyal to one player?
