We can refer to them as Carnival Death Ships 1-8 for simplicity. Before the end of the year the line will be begging Congress for another bail out.
I think the theories are they were studying the virus sort of like we study all kinds of deadly viruses and it escaped by accident. The other that I don't think is being pushed is that they manipulated a virus that wasn't harmful to humans in order to bio-engineer a weapon and it accidentally escaped from a lab.
Pretty sweet how our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will still be paying the interest on golden parachutes for execs from Boeing, Carnival, etc.
And the Boeing guys oversaw the multi-billion development of a flawed aircraft that has already claimed hundreds of lives.
They reworked the model over the last few days after realizing many of its assumptions were flawed. Today they released the projections of the reworked model. IMO it is still too optimistic.
He’s making two separate statements. In reverse order: 1) The virus wasn’t manipulated, it evolved naturally. This is consistent with what the many US Intelligence agencies have been saying and is probably consistent with the WH theory. 2) The virus didn’t emerge from a Wuhan lab. This is where Fauci clashes with the WH and probably gets fired. The WH is outright saying it did and they’ve seen the evidence. The intelligence agencies, so far, are saying there is no evidence of that.
A lot of Waffle House stores are franchises, so while they get a kickback, you would be supporting local.
I’m still just wondering why you chose your first dine in experience in likely 2 months at Waffle House?
That headline on the previous page "restaurateurs wonder if it's too early..." YEA. YEA IT FUCKING IS. Jfc. The government needs to help them out and provide them with an opportunity to not do something insanely stupid.
I can’t imagine opening up a dining room to 25% capacity is more profitable than a takeout/delivery model. I bet 50% isn’t awesome, either. Basically the best ways are to stay shut down or say fuck it and go all-in with max capacity. Too many are going to go the fuck-it route out of impatience, desperation or greed and fuck things up.
Sounds like Germany is about to reopen everything this month including sending kids back to school on a rotating basis.

Local hospital covid 19 patients are trending up after dropping for a bit. Will be interesting to see what this looks like in a week or two. What’s confusing is they say they’ve discharged 104 covid patients since ‘the beginning of the pandemic’ but the state data says only 105 have been hospitalized in the county. Not sure why the discrepancy but seems like a pretty large gap in the numbers.
Nice story here. It’s worth reading. Laurie is one of the best resources the world has in an event like this. I was saddened that the things she says need to be done (toward the end of the story) aren’t going to happen anytime soon. The near-term political realities will push everything else aside. In this context you have to think of “political realities” as “the distribution of wealth for the next 4 years”. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/02/opinion/sunday/coronavirus-prediction-laurie-garrett.html
I posted about it earlier, but restaurants with outdoor seating were a zoo here (FL) today. With Cinco de Mayo tomorrow I can only imagine it’ll get worse.
Such a dumb populace. I imagine it’s always been this dumb but it’s a bolder form of dumbassery these days.
Agreed. “Lockdown” in Italy meant one person from a household with a Pass walking/biking to the grocery store and/or pharmacy and back. Each household was issued ONE pass. Americans who think their “freedom” was reduced have no idea. I could be wrong and correct me if I am (Georgia_Nole , this includes your experience in Summit County) but the most stringent restrictions in the USA so far seems to have been “stay at home except for essential services, with a fairly long list of essential services”. Maybe CA, WA, and NYC/NJ went further?
Spoiler I’m not super well versed on hotels here. The ones I’m aware of are the bougie ones on the beach we used to sneak into the pools when we were kids Naples Beach Club Inn on Fifth La Playa Naples Grande Ritz Carlton Three areas I’d look for hotels close to would be: 1) Old Naples around 5th ave s and 3rd st 2) Mercato Shops or Waterside Shops 3) Coconut Point - it’s a little more north
Man those numbers must really eat at Trump. He’s heading for a crash and burn. Unfortunately, he’s willing to take all of us with him...
you know those ratings systems are flawed they don't take into account houses that have more than two television sets, and other things of that nature
I thought there were regional differences? You could definitely walk with pets and if you had a child (I think they were blocked for a week and a half) but needed a form. The Spanish didn't allow children outside for 6 weeks. That's very wrong in my view.
What's the issue? Class establishment through and through. You know what you're getting. It's not expensive. The list goes on and on. We too good for WaHo now?
I honestly don't think the Government gives a flying fuck about the potential catastrophic death toll anymore.. I think they are prepared to just roll the dice, and say fuck it.. This is more than concerning, yet i'm not the least bit surprised. (CNN)President Donald Trump now knows the price of the haunting bargain required to reopen the country -- tens of thousands more lives in a pandemic that is getting worse not better. It's one he now appears ready to pay, if not explain to the American people, at a moment of national trial that his administration has constantly underplayed. Depressing new death toll projections and infection data on Monday dashed the optimism stirred by more than half the country taking various steps to reopen an economy that is vital to Trump's reelection hopes and has shed more than 30 million jobs. Stay-at-home orders slowed the virus and flattened the curve in hotspots like New York and California, but they have so far failed to halt its broader advance, leaving the nation stuck on a grim plateau of about 30,000 new cases a day for nearly a month. New evidence of the likely terrible future toll of Covid-19 came on a day when Trump stayed out of sight -- his wild briefings that hurt his political prospects now paused -- meaning he could not be questioned on his enthusiasm for state openings in the light of new evidence. The White House also took new steps to limit testimony to the House from members of the President's coronavirus task force, prompting Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi to warn on CNN that it was "afraid of the truth." The latest model projects 134,000 deaths, more than double 2 weeks ago.. Yeah fuck it, roll the dice.. Let's party y'all..
To add to it, Dr. Fauci, who has been warning what's to come with reopening the country too soon, clearly doesn't want blood on his hands.. The fact he had this to say yesterday kind of tells you exactly how badly this is going to go.. (CNN)Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, said Monday evening that calls for his dismissal are "part of the game" as he continues to urge Americans to practice social distancing. Fauci has been targeted by critics online who are unhappy with his recommendations to continue social distancing in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus. President Donald Trump breathed life into these complaints when he retweeted an individual who used the hashtag "#FireFauci" in a tweet last month, though the President emphasized that he had no plans to dismiss the nation's top infectious disease expert from the coronavirus task force. "There are people that are going to be disagreeing with me. Some of them, rather violently in many respects, you know, telling me that I am crazy, fire Fauci, do this, do that. That is part of the game," Fauci told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "Cuomo Prime Time." "I am just going to keep giving you the information that I feel is necessary to make that decisions that I think are prudent decisions." Jesus Christ, Trump is a fucking idiot.. His comments come as more states loosen their stay-at-home orders, prompting researchers to predict a sharp increase in the virus's death toll this summer. Public health experts, including Fauci, have repeatedly stressed the dangers of relaxing social distancing measures too early. "I feel I have a moral obligation to give the kind of information that I am giving," he said Monday. "People are going to make their own choices, I cannot -- nor anybody -- force people under every circumstance, to do what you'd think is best." Fauci has garnered sustained criticism from the President's allies in conservative media for his willingness to directly refute Trump and counter his more optimistic rhetoric about the pandemic. Among them was the conservative who called for Fauci to be fired after he said in a CNN interview more could have been done to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Trump retweeted it but later pushed back on the idea that he might fire Fauci. "Today I walk in, I hear I'm going to fire him. I'm not firing him. I think he is a wonderful guy," the President told reporters during the daily White House briefing. Trump said his retweet doesn't matter, and the tweet was "somebody's opinion." The President said he did notice the "fire Fauci" hashtag before he retweeted it. "This was a person's view. Not everybody's happy with Anthony. Not everybody is happy with everybody," he said. "But I will tell you, we have done a job the likes of which nobody has ever done." If this doesn't concern people I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure protesters will still be lining up to ask for their "freedom".. Fucking morons.
Any finally in total Trump fashion he actually compared himself to President Lincoln yesterday.. Jesus Christ..
And..... One more gigantic statement that Fauci is publicly saying Trump is dead wrong about in regards to Trumps allegations that the Coronavirus was made by the Chinese.. I love that Fauci gives zero fucks about making Trump look like a buffoon every chance he gets without actually saying Trump is a buffoon.
Yikes. It's a pretty terrible ad, imo. Aside from the fact that most people aren't going to get the "morning in america" reference, it's extremely heavy handed. Things are pretty bad but holy shit that's a lot, and if it doesn't match a viewers reality there's a natural repulsion to it. Basically the only people I think it'd appeal to are like... Bill Kristol. And he helped produce it. So.
Pretty good article imo https://sports.yahoo.com/mitch-mcco...ater-during-coronavirus-crisis-194310498.html
We are all glad you have your priorities in the right place Don.. My god..Thousands of new cases daily, and thousands of Americans are dying a day, but HEY OIL PRICES ARE GOING BACK UP!! So Everything is good guys...
When is everyone going back into the office? They are telling us July 1st at the earliest. Already told my boss I will not be back in the office then.
