Nice little afternoon tasting of samples from WillieHuff 1792 FP Store pick - B Stagg Jr (I think it's Batch 12) - A 2019 Four Roses SBLE - A+
Nice little trip to Costco today. Restocking on 4 Roses but never had any of the rest. Noble Jones is from local distillery. Have has their regular bourbon and rye, so this rounds out the trio. Snagged an extra dovetail since they were only $75.
Thats the founder of Barrel, Joe Beatrice Source: I got a bunch of bottles of the first batch that were signed and emailed Barrel
Does anyone still see The Booker's 2019-03 Country Ham in their part of the country? It's all but gone in KC and I wish I would have stocked up before they were all tapped out locally. Also those Dovetails TheBabyShrimp
I saw a reddit/r/whiskey post about it and never realized people thought so highly of that batch. Everyone raves about beaten biscuits, but this was my first time seeing such high marks for country ham.
Yeah I've not had Beaten Biscuits yet - there are a lot of those bottles still on shelves in KC. I was hoping to get another bottle of Country ham and one of beaten biscuits to taste test against one another because everything I've seen has said those two batches are the standouts from the past couple years.
Had a couple pours of the C919. So good but I’m def not used to the hi octane diesel. You basically have to sip it like hot coffee at least for me. Just enough to coat the mouth. Switched over to 4RSiB and it’s just not in the same league.
I was just able to order a Rebel Yell 10 year single barrel online from a store in NJ. I overpaid a little at $69 + $10 shipping. That said I have been looking online for a couple of months and have not been able to find anything close to that who will ship to me. The shipping is just a bit more than I would have paid in tax, so not bad really. Now, the wait begins to see if it actually comes. Any reviews out there by this group?
I did a review of it a couple years ago. https://www.bourbonsmith.com/post/rebel-yell-single-barrel I honestly haven’t had it in probably 6 months so i don’t remember any specific details, but I do remember I’ve always liked it and it’s one I always buy when I see it, which isn’t often.
Looks like I can get the Archives Heaven Hill. #s 493, 494 and 497. Any thoughts between these? Or just snag all three?
My first tasting wasn't great. Do not expect ECBP. It is definitely high octane, but tastes so much younger. Also pperc noticed that it was labeled as American Whiskey, so there may have been something different done in the mash or the barreling process. Don't get me wrong, I think it is worth having for the novelty and the proof, but it is not something that I would go to and be like, yes I am in the mood to drink that right now. Oh and as of 5 minutes ago, I now have two bottles. Thanks BrickTamland !
If any of you gentlemen have a bookers country ham you’d want to send my way I’d be happy to return the favor if you are looking for anything in particular.
There’s a liquor store near me that has an encyclopedic level of Booker’s on hand. Every batch for the past 3 years or so. What sort of stuff do you have in your area?
Can typically get all Barrel products, OGD114, some weller, four roses, whistle pig. There are also a lot of store picks in KC. Knob Creek, Russell’s Reserve, Elijah Craig etc. Also get a good amount of EGBP and also see EHT, Stagg Jr, Buffalo trace
Weller antique or 12 would obviously be awesome. EHT single barrel also due for replenishing in my cabinet
Weller 12 and EHTSiB are much more rare/allocated around Kansas City, but I could probably get an Antique for you. Let me know if you check with your liquor store if they have it and then DM me and we can work out the deets
Sounds good sir thanks. TBH I may take you up on your offer even if Mortisay gets me a bottle. I just love the stuff
Anybody know how this 4R SBS with six different recipes is? The store owner was raving about his store pick EG so I had to get one
Really liking this EH Taylor Rye, one of my favorite ryes in the bar right now. Feels like a step above Willett 4 year and slightly better than Pikesville.
I enjoy the Small Batch Select but I’d buy the single barrel for the price difference if I’m drinking these regularly.
Just recently discovered the single barrel barrel proof (store pick) and I’m an even bigger fan of that
Yup. I have nine of the ten available recipes. I am a big fan. What recipe was it? Coincidentally, if anyone on the board has an OESO that they’d like to trade/sell, let me know.
I got a few when I was in Indiana/Kentucky. There are a couple of stores in Michigan that get picks too. But I mostly traded and bought off of the secondary market.
2020 Michter's 10 hitting shelves https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-...2020-10-year-single-barrel-bourbon-to-market/ If anyone sees one for a reasonable price please let me know would love to get a bottle.
A couple liquor stores around me have each gotten 1792 Full Proof Store picks in. I haven't had much of 1792 (not a fan of their High Rye or Small Batch) but I do like high proof stuff. Anyone had experience with their full proof/specific store picks? What did you think? Any standout tasting notes?
My Rebel Yell 10 Year Single Barrel just arrived. Whoever recommended this to me, thanks! It's awesome! I think it may have been BrickTamland
Yes. I paid a little less than that with shipping, but this is a top notch wheater. It is so smooth and creamy.
