My oldest wears his mask well but the younger two just straight up won’t. I’m thinking a bandanna or gaitor or something less mask-y might be better than nothing for them.
count your blessings! for the record, I’m not against wearing masks. I wear one when I go out in public for the time being. I just have zero desire to wear one when I’m supposed to be doing something fun like vacation. Therefore, no vacations for us. Same with dining in restaurants. I won’t be doing that anytime soon.
I don’t think he’s saying he won’t wear a mask, I’m reading that as him holding off paying an enormous amount of money to travel there to vacation and have it be a kinda weird experience. You’re local and an AP holder. I’m with him in the sense that I will just wait it out until things hopefully clear up, or at least we all learn to adjust better.
tbf there’s a very real chance that with florida easing restrictions the way they are that disney won’t even be able to open at all for a very long time if there’s a huge spike of cases. seems pretty likely now
Calling today to book next year officially. Curious what availability will be, as it’s the 50th. Already booked our hotel at Bonnet Creek, but my parents and sisters are going to stay on property.
I am waiting until next week to check it out online. I don't know exactly where we want to stay so I want to see options and prices and don't want to have someone on the phone go through all of that with me. I am sure that would be annoying for them as I work my way through the decision.
I might actually use a Dreams Unlimited agent, as they keep on top of discounts and automatically apply them as they come up. It would only be for the stay, as our tickets are already mostly paid for — I say “mostly” because we won’t be able to use our tickets, just apply the value towards new ones. My mom’s AP, however, has me curious. How long have they extended those? She purchased it because it worked out mathematically for discounts and buying other special event tickets/photo pass.
Right as the pandemic was truly getting started, the wife and I booked a week on the Boardwalk for mid November. We went through one of those Disney travel agents, so we only out $200 down and we can cancel without penalty up to a month before the trip. We knew the likelihood of the trip happening was slim but eh, why not at least give ourselves the option? I figure now it might work in our favor, assuming parks have a significantly lowered capacity. The one thing I’m not doing yet is booking a flight. Worst case is we drive down from Michigan.
I’m betting you’ll be good by then AND be restrictions will be relaxed. Guys, let’s go, let’s talk potential future plans. I need some good stuff, I’m fucking over this endless downward spiral of negativity and sadness encapsulating everything else. I can’t do it, I’m not wired to exist in this state. Parents are going to do Poly, they were at GF Villas via DVC (got lucky as hell at seven months). Sisters are doing Art of Animation. Nice change is that all of the spring breaks line up next year, so that’s awesome. Everyone will be able to do at least six nights, as opposed to this weird, fragmented, overlapping plan we had earlier. More than ever, we’re going to blow it the fuck out. Lightsaber? You got it. Dining plan? Yep. Special events? Already planned on it. VIP????? Nah, that’s extreme. But I think I mentioned this before, but my mom and sisters had not been on any trip together since right after my parents got divorced in 1994. My step-dad is in “fuck it” mode after years of frugality. He’s still super smart with his money, but their offer to pay for admission tickets and Discovery cove pushes us all over the edge to do this trip. Because of that, the rest of us will have funds to spend elsewhere. We’ll have to rebook their Victoria and Albert’s dinner, too. Let’s fucking...GOOOOOOOO!
So, with that cancel date - you can always rebook your trip later then cancel - so your 30 day window isn't really even real. Flights, most airlines are allowing you up to 2 years to rebook if you need to cancel - so if you're on the fence it may not be the worst thing to book some of it.
Travel is gonna be down for awhile I’d imagine (not at current levels, but i doubt it gets back to pre-covid levels that fast) and they will also push back the start of the 50th
I was looking at that, but I really, really want my parents to be on the loop and my sisters don’t want to drop the coin on Boardwalk (which it’s understandable vs AoA).
i always stay at the polynesian just love the atmosphere there. plus trader sam’s is amazing guess i should venture out to another one sometime. only two i’ve stayed at are grand floridian and polynesian
It’s very pricey and if you aren’t a fan of the boardwalk it likely wouldn’t be worth it have seen many sporting events at that espn zone on the boardwalk
I think what Ike gonna do is book Poly for them, but hold out hope that I can capitalize on my buddy’s $13/pp DVC offer. If either VGF or Poly are available on there, I’m jumping on it. Curious how much they’ll increase the point matrix by next year, if any at all.
They are extending the APs for as long as the parks are closed. So if your AP was scheduled to expire on Jan 1, 2021, then it is now extended XX months (depending on how long they actually remain closed for).
Actually, I’m just a stupid person. I always wondered what that “2030” expiration date was. Well, the clock doesn’t start until my mom uses it. So once she walks in the gates on 3/20/21, it’s good for a year after that. That was good to know/learn.
Booked Poly for my parents next year just to lock it in. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL at the price. Yeah, we’ll be signing in at 7:00am again, seven months out to use them thar DVC points.
I don’t think it will be noticeably older, but my first thought (no children) was “perfect timing for me to go due to less people” so maybe we’ll see that effect (couples between age 20-40 going).
Depends on if you're monthly or not. I'm on monthly and they just aren't billing us. If you want it extended instead you have to call in and opt-in to that.
Moved our trip in April to end of August early September. Now staying at Saratoga Springs DVC instead of Swan and Dolphin. We were offered the Free Dining Plan, but ended up renting a family friend's points for next to nothing. $650 for 6 nights in 1BR Deluxe. Need to upgrade tickets to add more days and a park hopper since we originally planned to do just a few days then take a cruise. We are now planning to do MNSSH since we've never done an after hours event (assuming it's still happening). Food reservations at Ohana, Homecomin, Teppan Edo, Grand Floridian Cafe brunch. We will also plan on doing Space 220 assuming it's open. Still planning on going back in 2021 for the 50th or maybe early 2022.
i don’t know why i never rent with someone’s dvc points i always pay full price like a dumbass idiot i should just do that next time and get a villa at the polynesian instead
Average price is 17pp, possibly going to 18pp. Do the math and it’s well worth it. However, I personally got lucky with my parents being able to sell their points back. I’m not sure how other people who bought off of randoms fared. https://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/Poly-Points.htm
i used a calculator earlier on one of those sites earlier and then i checked to see how much it would have cost me through disney tickets and everything included i’d save like $750 each time
My problem is that my trips are rarely planned that far in advance, normally only 3-4 months. I'd love to do it with the Oct 1, 2021 trip but my guess is those points will be very expensive as people will know what's going on that weekend.
I don’t even mean the political ones (also don’t wanna bring politics ITT bc then we’ll spend pages about how it shouldn’t be ITT). I just don’t get the raging about masks about a place that is optional. No one is required to go to Disney springs. Just go somewhere else.
trust me i’m not trying to politicize this thread no matter where you fall on the spectrum you can laugh at that asshole i saw someone in the comments say they would never go back lmao
Wearing a mask all day at Disney in mid July would be fucking miserable. You would have to want to go pretty damn bad to do that...no thanks.
I’ve been on my soapbox this for a while and just recently in another thread today — just wash your hands more, as gloves are probably doing more to maintain one’s anxiety and not protect someone as much as they may be hoping. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/why-you-shouldnt-wear-gloves-to-the-grocery-store/
I honestly haven't been really paying attention to what Disney is doing because I won't be able to go for a while so I was guessing on the requirements.
I spoke with my parents last night and it seems my sister and BIL and finally planning to take my niece and nephew to Disney. They have asked for me to help plan this and I am pretty pumped to do so but would love advice from any of you that have kids and have taken a Disney trip with them (I'm a childless millennial...though technically not quite a millennial but whatever). Some information on the group: - There will be 7 people going (my parents, sister, BIL, niece (will be 6 when we go), nephew (will be 4 when we go), and myself). We don't all have to stay in the same room. In fact, I definitely don't want to be in the same room as my sister and the littles and I am guessing my parents might enjoy some quiet time from them as well. - Plan is to go in late February (making sure to avoid the RunDisney event). - Money is relatively tight for the family so finding as much bang for their buck is going to be big for them. - The plan is to drive to Disney (live in SC). I plan on having a talk with all of them here soon to get a good understanding about what specifics they want to do. The only thing my Mom has mentioned is wanting to take the littles to the dining in the castle. My suggestion was 5 days with 1 park per day and an extra day. Either can use it in the middle to relax or use it at the end to hit up another park one last time. I also need to talk with them about staying on property or not. Since money is an issue, I might suggest 2 days at a regular hotel that is cheaper then 2-3 days on Disney property (extra magic hours for MK and AK for the littles).
