i'm leaning towards believing the guy who remembers in detail that he got to make a pizza for michael jordan
His wife was in an accident i responded for a year or so ago and he was in the passenger seat His Parkinson’s is really bad. Saw Malone said something recently about former stars praying for him
Here’s a question (2 parts) 1) what bulls teams was the best 2) which championship winning year was Michaels best season?
I think the best team was 95-96 with the 72 win regular season. They basically made a mockery of the regular season and playoffs, and MJ was still halfway in his athletic prime while shifting more to killing people in the post and being the proverbial crafty veteran. As far as his best individual championship season, I'll go with his first. He had been playing at a championship level for several years prior to that, but with the team grown up around him finally, he was maybe in the middle of his athletic prime while asserting dominance on both ends of the floor. Of course he was first team all defense in addition to his offensive exploits. Ripped this from another article: During the regular season, MJ led the league by scoring 31.5 points a night. He also had six boards, 5.5 assists, 2.7 steals while shooting a career-high 53.9 percent from the field. The regular season MVP led the league in player efficiency (31.6) and win shares (20.3). The playoffs were even better, as No. 23 averaged 31.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game. His 52.4 percent shooting was his second-best playoff showing.
Magic averaged 12.4 apg in the playoffs which is incredible given the sample size. Only other player with double digits is Stockton at 10.1
I have a friend who played golf with Clyde Drexler last few days, and he said at one point while they were on the course an old guy with a cane who lived on the course walked out of his yard and started giving Drexler shit about how MJ dunked on him in the documentary. He said Drexler is good natured about the whole MJ thing and basically said nobody could fuck with MJ so he didn't take anything personally. Clyde is apparently a scratch golfer, and according to my friend he's super cool and laid back.
A buddy of mine from high school was playing golf in the Bahamas in the early 00’s and a ball came bouncing up on them in the middle of the fairway. They looked at it and it was a Nike number 23. Seconds later Jordan pulled up and apologized, said he didn’t think he had that range. Said he was super nice and signed a golf ball and a glove for them.
I agree. Dont care for it at all. Listened to the Simmons and Russillo Rewatchabulls so will stick with it.
I was actually thinking earlier.....the top ten dudes in the current NBA sure seem like better humans on a whole than the top ten players of the Jordan Era. Look at the guys in this doc...Jordan, Pippen, Malone, Bird, Kim Jong Un's BFF, Isiah..these are all some pretty bad humans.
The fact that he finished with 45 points in a closeout game of the Finals always gets lost in the memory of that final minute of play. 35 years old "running on fumes" and puts up 45 to close out his 6th championship. So much shit that he did that is stupidly insane like 3-peating two different times (only one other team has done it once in the last 54 years of the NBA) or going 9 straight years leading the league in scoring while being first team all-defense just winds up being taken for granted in a way because of how dominant he was. He really made a mockery of everyone before and after. GOAT
Just catching up on the doc now. You love the greatness and the tenacity. But as a neutral observer, and considering this is the footage blessed by Jordan, he must’ve been a massive bully. Not talking about just being hard on teammates, but the way he talks to people in general.
He also never missed games. Played every game after his first retirement Only less than 80 3x in his Bulls career. Injury his 2nd year, 78 in 92-93 and then 17 the year he came back mid-season
PizzaGateTheory Seems unlikely security would allow 5 dudes up to give Mj a pizza Seems unlikely those guys would know the pizza was specifically to Jordan at that hotel Seems unlikely pizza dudes could make a poison pizza Seems far more plausible that Mj got sick from shitty fast food pizza, and then Mj, or some of his entourage in the morning said “fuck man, I bet they poisoned you.” We obviously have evidence of Jordan looking for anything to use towards his own mental advantage.
Off subject a little bit it’s hilarious to me that literally almost all of his shoes were iconic and incredible—AJ1s selling over 100 million their first year and frankly it’s a very good looking shoe. Yet literally everyone else wore including suits and hats and jeans was absolutely hideous. He should just walk around all day in his Bulls jersey or warmups and AJ1s, Space Jams, Concords, or 3s.
It’s possible that the sauce spoiled. Given my vast knowledge of how some old school guys ran shops and the lack of ugh... regulation a pizza sauce being held at a warmer temp or older than 6 days could spoil and the taste could’ve been covered by a pizza covered in meats. I don’t believe the pizza was purposely fucked with. It’s likely a pizza with some topping that was past it’s shelf life.
At the end of the doc they ask Phil to confirm if Reinsdorf offered him another shot at coaching the Bulls the next season. Phil confirms he was offered the shot to return and turns it down. BUT... When the give Mike the IPad Jerry says the offer to Phil was to coach a REBUILT bulls team not bringing the crew back. That they hoped in a year or two with Mike and a new roster they could be back competing for a title. Phil is not without blame but the death of the dynasty is 100% on Reinsdorf. Fuck that asshole.
Reading Krause’s unpublished memoir, that isn’t a wholly unreasonable position by Resinsdorf. They were already paying Michael more than the salary cap by himself; Longley and Rodman didn’t have any gas left; Pippen wanted (and got) a big deal; Buechler and Kerr wanted (and got) over-valued deals. Michaels talks about “everyone would’ve taken a one year deal” but I don’t think that’s the reality...and was *he* taking a pay cut to make it happen? Reinsdorf was paying double the salary cap; he was supposed to triple it or more to keep an aging team together for maybe one more shot? It had to be a rebuilt roster imo. ....and I don’t like Reinsdorf but folks are fooling themselves on this one, I believe.
If the drafts from 5 years earlier or 5 years later came along during 99-02, Krause would have looked like a genius with the rebuild. They didn't so he broke the team up to get Elton Brand, Marcus Fizer, Jamal Crawford, Eddy Curry, and Jay Williams
I mean sure 20 years later MJ says he would have taken a 1 year deal to keep everybody together but would he have taken a pay cut? I’m sure he would have felt that was disrespect and walked away out of spite
I loved how he was casually signing up Pippen and Kerr for substantial paycuts after he made a record salary the year before
Fizer and Curry were bad but they could have built a winner around Brand and Williams had Williams stayed healthy and they not gotten rid of Brand.
