completely agree. They are incentivized to “appear” to make an attempt to fix it to quell the bad press but they really don’t want to fix this problem.
The only solution for Twitter to get rid of the bots and troll farms is to only allow accounts that are willing to verify their identity (via ____ ?) and that's not going to happen.
You’re right...it really is time to declare Facebook/Twitter part of the Commons and if not nationalize, heavily regulate. it’s just too important
I know exactly what this means and am equally outraged, but my friend doesn’t understand it well and I’d like to explain it to him in simpler terms if you can help me out with that.
I don't get why they would do this. It's going to pick up a bunch of previous positive cases that had light symptoms so that could make the numbers worse. On the other hand, if overall there has really only been 1-2% overall infected, and A LOT of serology gets done it would push the positivity down. Hard to say the impact, but definitely shouldn't be included.
always interesting fits to a degree with some of our more conservative folks largely being denialists or posting about not following it because it's distressing
At the risk of an actually smart person showing me to be a moron: More people infected in the past. Less people infected right now. Neither of those figures are big enough to be meaningful, but it does mean that a main metric relied upon to judge whether we are effectively identifying new COVID cases is shit.
“The viral testing is to understand how many people are getting infected, while antibody testing is like looking in the rearview mirror. The two tests are totally different signals,” he told us. By combining the two types of results, the CDC has made them both “uninterpretable,” he said.
I know you’re referring to Tubs, but like a month before everything shut down, the lady friend and I were out to eat and noticed Chizik and wife across from us. 10 minutes later, he was joined by Mike Hubbard and wife. Lady friend had to keep me from going over and asking how the fuck a convicted felon gets to walk around scot free. I guess what I’m trying to say is fuck Chizik. I hope he gets it, too.
It’s because liberals are more likely to listen to scientists and doctors and not some idiot political figure.
I believe Chizik has been treating some fambuleh members pretty well regarding rent. So he's not a complete asshole like Tubs
I was getting gas in my car for work last night at 7, while thinking about the next day of work, after working all day. I think many of the work from home people are going to have a tough time (getting back to the swing of things).
Photo ID Then watch everyone destroy themselves about a violation of rights, not understanding the irony of requiring it for voting, an actual right
Getting back to the grind isn’t easy. Working from home gives you a chance to mess around, not have to commute, watch tv, etc.
depends. bet the people who have been home with their kids can’t wait to get out. people who live alone like i do? you’re probably right
My take is that the virus reduces the amount of change (less travel, less exposure, less diversity, etc) which doesn’t impact those who don’t seek change and newness.
I don’t even know what day it is most days WFH. Mondays aren’t really Mondays anymore. Going to be rough going back to office life
I want work to tell me at least a month in advance before I go back in so I can start mentally preparing
yeah I agree, it depends on the person of course. People home w kids might want to stay home also lol. But I just mean more in general to how much of a grind it is. What an emotional roller coaster these last few months for all Americans. More dips and turns to come this summer I’d imagine.
I’ll miss my house/landscaping project time during my lunch hour and having my dog lay next to me while I work.
I love being able to do what I want to do when I'm energized to do it, not trying to manufacture that energy after 5pm or on a weekend
I've been having work-related anxiety dreams and I think this is why. Work is going well and my job has gotten easier in many ways, but that constant swirl of attention plus the lack of feedback on actions that just go out into the ether builds up anxiety
As far as kids, it’s been rough a few times when they go crazy, but for the most part I think that is the one blessing (crazy to use that word during this.) eating breakfast and lunch with them every day and taking walks/riding bikes throughout the day has really de-stressed me.
I actually think its pretty easy to solve for -- expand blue checks to everyone who provides valid verification. It'd make blue checks mean less in some ways, but in a good way because people have authority with them that they shouldn't. At the same time it'd make people without checks seem like the oddballs who won't prove themselves, thus diminishing how much they're listened to.
Like you kind of hedged with, it depends who you are testing with the antibody tests and more importantly, what antibody tests you are using. If it’s the faulty tests with high false negative rates on general population, it brings the numbers down. It could just be a case of incompetence and not negligence but it certainly screams negligence to paint the picture that opening up has worked.
Arizona has been doing this for two weeks now. The math is unfortunately painfully simple and incredibly transparent on their COVID-19 resource center. It’s how they justified the positive rate was going down by inflating the denominator. And I posted in the golf thread that someone I followed on Twitter, who lives in Scottsdale, tested negative on a serology test and started going out in public again.
Also antibody tests are designed to be administered to the general public or assymptomatic people. Naturally the percentage of positive results will be much smaller than viral testing of sick people. Adding them all together can put a positive spin on the infected rate. Would not shock me for this administration to be doing this on purpose.
The Kremlin can throw more resources into creating bots on those platforms than those platforms can throw at controlling them. They have a huge head start as it is. Plus they have the tacit support of the White House. I don’t see a way for the platforms to get ahead of it, even if they wanted to.
twitter is a god damn disaster i only really use it for memes because the misinformation on there is insane
Jack and Zuck don’t want to show lessened user base/interactions. It’s about the money, not the right thing. as I’ve previously stated, I will be pantless when AG Warren breaks up FB
