This thread: having a discussion about the pandemic and all of the societal impacts of said pandemic with your very concerned friends. COVID-19 info thread: Having a discussion about the current pandemic with professionals in an academic and (far) more formal setting. Neither place should present itself as an opportunity to be a dick
It seems to have parts of the Pompeo story where a leader is using their influence to do things others aren't allowed to, but I haven't really deep dove into it because, well, shit sucks here.
Dallas county has 0 new deaths for the first time since May 10 Only 623 new cases in Texas yesterday, but we will see if the Tuesday lag is still an thing
After this weekend I’d expect a drastic increase based on the holiday and everyone going to the beaches and lakes. Those won’t show up till next week or the week after though right?
For sure. Going to be a couple of weeks till we see those cases. Going to be interesting to see how big the spike is and where the hotspots are.
It’s going to be how it hits rural areas harder. Those are the people who traveled to the beaches and lakes and are going back to smaller communities that could spread it there. Not a dr but just seems like that could be what would cause this to hit areas that weren’t hit as hard before.
It’ll spread more slowly in those rural communities. It might be more than 2 weeks before we see the numbers significantly increase.
It looks like the plan is to have the fed and congress prop up the stock market at all costs which will only create a further divide between the haves and have nots in this country.
So basically what happened to Louisiana and other areas after Mardi Gras. I believe that’s what they traced some of the first cases in Houston to.
We still don’t really know how the warmer weather of summer will impact this. It certainly won’t go away in summer but things haven’t been as bad in Florida and we have been in “summer” weather for a few weeks now. We also saw a major influx of people from NYC to south Florida in February and March and things never got as bad as people thought. For areas of the US with warmer weather, small population density and no public transport, things might not be as bad even if masks and social distancing are ignored. That doesn’t make this behavior right. It just means that we don’t know if that behavior will be as detrimental as many of us think.
He said we should use our awareness of the loss of life to ban abortions which is something weird that I really wish he didn’t say But he’s been more consistently pro-life than most pro-lifers. He’s says it’s up to the governors to decide when it’s safe to open things back up.
Yep. And later in the Summer the Congress will pass a stimulus that will give money to each citizen so that voters will get a check right before the election.
There’s a lot of documentation that super-spreader events are like the gasoline thrown on the campfire.
Nothing would make me happier than OU fans turning on Riley and pushing him out because he just simply said to wear masks.
Man I’m glad that Missi bitch got put on blast. She is absolutely insufferable. Outside of her the virus is a joke schtick, she’s obviously a big ol Trumper that constantly posts “look at how hot me and my under 18 year old daughters are” (as referenced above). She was all over my twitter timeline bc a reporter for al.com is apparently friends with her and is on board the same political train. /Birmingham problems
I feel like there are a lot scarier examples he could have used, none of those are personally motivating
