For those who like me were wondering why four cops were fired when there were seemingly only two in the video...
I mean I’d like to know how it got to that point too. Doesn’t change that the cops are murderers or accomplices to murder in my eyes though.
Was about 1000 ft from my apartment at the time. Drove right through the road block for the crime scene because white. St. Anthony PD.
More so St. Paul. It's adjacent to the state fairgrounds, which is certainly considered St. Paul. Also borders UMN St. Paul campus. I see Rabid has already taken care of this malarkey. My bad on re-hashing.
I would as well. I have just never understood the bullshit that happens after they have cuffed and subdued someone. I give more leeway in terms of getting to that point and making sure everyone is safe. But it infuriates me when you see cops punching, choking, or night sticking someone who is already cuffed and controlled. That is just a power trip that can obviously have dire consequences both in terms of that person and the general public trust.
It’s like the cop gets off on denying the people pleading for the man’s life asmuch as it is the man himself doing the same thing. While I don’t live there anymore, Minneapolis is a good city with good people. I hope they can make a difference. The mayor seems to be a good man from everything I’ve heard as well. Hopefully there’s a different outcome this time.
This is when I'd like to know how much power a Mayor has over the police department. It could lead to some ugly future in mainstream politics, but for once I'd like to see a Mayor just completely throw their PD under the bus.
Remember 2 weeks ago when white people rushed government buildings across the country and police did nothing?
A reoccurring theme I hate is how scared good/cool cops are to speak out. Obviously I don’t know the Asian cop but I sort of got the impression he is cool headed. Grow some balls.
That's the biggest issue. I honestly believe the good cops vastly outnumber the bad cops but it's seen as being a rat if they out the bad cops so in the end they all up bad.
Seems like more of that video would show the entire incident, since they ended up in the street, wouldn't it?
So fucking what if he initially resisted arrest? His life ended because an officer wouldn’t release pressure from his neck while he was on the ground with his arms handcuffed behind him and three officers “restraining” him
The knee in the back/neck is just murder. Maybe for a few seconds to get the cuffs on, but not like that. Like you, I understand if you have a 200+ lb. man fighting you. It might take 2 or 3 of you to get him down, but once he's cuffed, that's murder.
Yep, I think they have problems getting him in the car (or so I read). Maybe we should amend Miranda, “you have the right to remain silent, also, any resistance will result in death.”
does it matter what happened when 600 pounds of weight is on top of you, your cuffed, not breathing and limp??? Who cares what happened 10 minutes beforehand? once he’s cuffed with 3 tough guys with badges on top of him there is ZERO need to choke him to death with a knee, so I don’t care if he was fucking King Kong crazy, doesn’t give an officer the right to knee his neck to the point of death
"Video footage release by store owner who stated George did not resist arrest as stated on the police report" Again, I agree. If he didn't resist arrest he should not have been killed. If he did resist arrest, he should not have been killed. But if the point of releasing that part of the video was to demonstrate that the guy did not resist arrest, it would be helpful to show the entire thing, as it's plainly obvious that more happened between what's shown there and what we see in the cell phone videos.
Just from that one thread it seems like the city is in good (or at least better) hands. They'll need it in the coming weeks
this dude is out of central casting for the corrupt cop that abuses power role... Michael Lansing (@facloungepop) Tweeted: The current, long-time union president is well known for his connections to white power groups. https://t.co/sl2sWd73KH (9)
Kinda worried firing them immediately was a bad idea. The pushback and potential lawsuits are going to get in the middle of the murder trial. The Asian or Spanish dude will prob get his job back after the union goes after them.
Fuck em. If the case for why they should not have been fired for murder was that it didn't go through the proper channels, maybe this antiquated blue wall idea can be put on trial.
it's hard to take the high route in this situation but there has to be a standard. This doesn't seem like the right decision. Let's be real though. That will never happen. They only turn on their own when theres no possible alternatives.
The standard is that these murderers would be investigated by people who will be strong armed by the police union into either not pressing charges or "prosecuted" and acquitted by a jury because being a cop is tough. This is a pretty damn good case to put the system on trial, and it looks like the mayor DNGAF about procedure, so let's do it. There has been media backlash over murdering unarmed black people, so if a racist police union wants to burn equity on this one, it shines a light on the ridiculousness of what they are.
yep. Seems like the job of enforcing the law should not stop because a person is wearing a uniform. This is shameful and disgusting, they should all be prosecuted.
