Here's the tweet (it's not showing up when I click) Spoiler and the article linked (Newsweek) https://www.newsweek.com/yuri-milner-facebooks-russian-sugar-daddy-66907 If it's not that one, then maybe this one Spoiler Guardian article https://www.theguardian.com/technol...g-in-disarray-as-journalists-push-to-cut-ties
twitter can’t be sued because someone posts something on its “forum”. They’re not the publisher , therefor they’re exempt from liability. If they lose exemption, they could now be sued for what’s posted.
I may be over simplifying but section 230 liability allows Twitter/fb and third parties to not be liable for what people post on their platforms. If that exemption is removed then they are liable and they have to basically police themselves to avoid the legal ramifications. So if they have no exemption, and trump gets on twitter spouting conspiracy theories and nonsense, it's a tremendous liability for them. The end result is Twitter kicking him off the platform for violation of tos.
So wait, Twitter will have to do more policing of its site because President Man-Baby is upset they provided a fact? He does realize they will have to limit 75% of the garbage he posts, right? The king of the self own.
Jesus Christ. Libs still doing the fact checking thing? God that guy is such a fucking pussy. Tweets like this are like ads for luxury cars. Get a new schtick: fact checking isn’t going to expand your voter base and it makes you sound like a nerd.
We have no idea whether Covid19 spikes again, but the first week of November is a pretty classic spike for similar viruses.
Is the executive branch empowered by the legislation to determine who qualifies for the exemption or is this just more bullshit posturing that can’t be undone without another act of congress allowing it?
Won't this have the complete opposite effect of what they want. If Platforms are open to lawsuits based on what's posted, they're going to have no choice but to delete and ban pretty much the entire right wing presence on their sites. Trump alone would cost them millions in potential lawsuits.
I trust that Facebook will not be fact-checking the amazing resumes I am about to send them for several high-paying positions at their company.
I don't think it's realistic that companies with as many posts as Twitter and Facebook can police them all. I'm not sure how they could even stay in business if they could get sued over any one of them.
So if they make twitter liable, they'll just delete the fuck out of most accounts and blatant liars Right??
I hope the Scarborough staffer has his lawyer ready. Anytime Trump makes a baseless claim or accusation sue Twitter. Eventually he won't be worth the risk and they'll kick his ass off.
They’re not going to do it, they’re using the threat of doing it to get Twitter to comply, just another day in our Banana Republic.
If understanding the available binary choice isn’t enough for you to be motivated to vote, that’s your deficiency.
