Yes its an attempt to show solidarity but It seems like a way for people to put on a show that they are doing something when in reality they are doing nothing of consequence. I have no doubt in my mind that someone like Amy Cooper would have also posted a black square today and patted her self on the back and went about her day had the central park incident not happened a week ago.
In a way it is useless. In another way, not everyone can go protest, especially given the violence and covid People like to tell their friends and families how they truly feel and this is one way to do it. Don’t think it is worth anyone’s ire. People may be protesting and posting the squares. Thus they are doing all they can. And for those just posting squares on social media, meh, who cares.
