Spoiler Text in case it gets deleted “Champions Club, Twitch has not notified me on the specific reason behind their decision... Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time. -Dr Disrespect”
How do you get fired from a giant, multi billion? dollar company while under a new, lucrative contract and not know why. 78 thousand dollars worth of subs instantly renewed and you don't know why.
Champions Club is what he calls his subscriber base. "Welcome to the Champions Club". They're all in an "Arena" watching Doc. His setting is futuristic, cyberpunk-y and whatnot so a lot of his schtick revolves around that. He plays a lot of synthwave/retro wave and centers his character around all of the aforementioned. Used to be called the Slick Daddy Club. Twitch, when banned, doesn't discuss the reason why to anyone else but themselves and the banned streamer. It has to be leaked 3rd party or told why by the streamer. Twitch is in the MeToo movement right now. Lots of accusations and bans being thrown around. Firm handshakes is his slogan or his saying. Firm Handshakes to All and stuff like that. Uses it when multiple people subscribe at one time or when he's catching up on donations and subscriptions. He thanks them by saying firm handshakes to so and so.
What little I’ve read, Dr D probably just got canceled out of a $20 MM twitch streaming contract. This is less than a week after Ninja and Shroud got paid in full for their $30 MM and $10 MM contracts after only 10 months with Microsoft’s now abandoned Mixer Platform. The rumor there being is since Mixer ceases to exist they had to pay those two guys in full for their multi year contracts with no obligation to follow to the new platform. It makes me wonder, since those guys originally announced they were going back to twitch and then never showed up...to continue the spots analogy, is this ban somewhat motivated by freeing up money for one or both of these guys to get signed to an exclusive with twitch? We can all laugh and say “lol, it’s just video games” but with the way things are going in sports, these “athletes” will be among the highest earners in 2020, and that’s not even factoring money from sponsors and subscribers.
Twitch is owned by Amazon. They need to drop DD to make room for those guys like the Pacific Ocean needs to drop a goldfish to make room for a seahorse.
athletes? Are we gonna start calling golfers, jockeys, bowlers and drivers “athletes” too? We have to draw the line somewhere and this is a good place. Entertainers yes. Athletes no.
Watching GTA speedruns is solid entertainment for a few days until you get bored of seeing the same things over and over. The San Andreas skip/bug they use to beat the game in 25ish minutes is insane.
I knew I should have put that word in quotes. They give “e-sports” scholarships to college for these dorks and everything. There’s even a push to get them in the summer olympics. But it’s a sport the same way Curling is a sport in that fat people can do it. edit to add: in the extreme (and absurd) case, imagine someone with a BMI over 40 breaking the all time gold medals record because there’s probably not an age-based hard cutoff for physical ability on gamers like there is for, say, swimmers and gymnasts. Fair point based on overall Amazon budget, but I’d imagine there’s a fair amount of compartmentalization of funds. Then again as i think about it more you’re right and I’m dumb, Amazon farts $300 million and doesn’t miss it, plus they’re the only legitimate game in the streaming world right now.
If we're calling them eSports then it only makes sense we call the participants athletes. Or at least eAthletes. Hey, I kinda like the sound of that. Let's throw a © on there.
While just meant as a joke I hope we can agree that playing a video game in no way makes you an athlete.
the thing some people do where they pretend to be superior to others just based on their preferred form of entertainment is weird as fuck to me
Imagine having a leader who did the right thing and therefore being able to have live team sports with fans.
This is definitely odd. I can guarantee one thing though, they aren’t dropping money to clear capital for Shroud and/or Ninja.
rugby and lacrosse are so fucking badass Hockey players look like figure skaters compared to these animals
for a moment I thought you were mistaken when you wrote “live” and then checked where it was being held.
not at all new zealand has actually “beaten” the virus they were at zero new cases and deaths 2-3 weeks ago.
Google the definition of athlete. If e-sports are considered sports, then people who participate are, by definition, athletes.
