10. Until Dawn 9. Spider Man 8. Rachet and Clank 7. Uncharted 2 6. Shadow of Collosus 5. Persona 5 4. Bloodborne 3. HZD 2. God of War 1. Last of Us
Spoiler 10. Until Dawn 9. Spider-man (PS4) 8. Ratchet & Clank (PS2) 7. Uncharted 2 6. Shadow of the Colossus 5. Persona 5 4. Bloodborne 3. Horizon: Zero Dawn 2. God of War (PS4) 1. The Last of Us
I own Until Dawn, Uncharted 2, Shadow of Collosus, Persona 5, Bloodborne, and God of War and haven't played any yet. Pretty excited I have a great list to jump into. Now I just have to stop playing Everybody's Golf. That game still has 15k+ people playing online tournaments which is hard to believe.
I have many thoughts on that final fight. If anyone has played Death Stranding, it is remarkably similar to one of the penultimate moments there. That said, I loved it.
Honestly a great list. I added my comments. For my own, I'd drop Persona 5 and the PS2 ratchet since I haven't personally played them. I think I'd have Death Stranding either at #2 or #3 with TLOU as the other one. Put Days Gone and Infamous 2 somewhere in the top 10.
The worst thing you can say about TR is that it can feel too close to an Uncharted clone. But the series is very good and I enjoyed the story. Shadow is in my backlog though
Some more TLOU2 thoughts... Spoiler I love how Tommy basically serves as a warning to Ellie before Santa Barbara. An idealist who helped create/lead the closest thing to a Utopia in the Apocalypse, at the end he has become a maimed, scared, broken man who has been dumped by Maria and consumed with revenge he himself can no longer obtain. Also, I do love all the little things in the game that truly show how outclassed everyone is by Joel, Tommy, and Ellie. Tommy immediately doubling back and easily killing Manny when he and Abby were confident they had him cornered. And, the only thing that makes it close to an even playing field between Abby and Ellie is Abby's build. Even stuff like Abby having to use shivs while Ellie has her switchblade. Lot of societal critiques in the game. Absolute power corrupting the WLF, so they are now indistinguishable from the fascist FEDRA. Also, the Seraphites show the many hypocrisies of religion: bastardizing the peaceful words of their prophet to become brutal monsters and obeying a ban on using the "sin" of using modern technology, except in every single instance when it's easier and convenient. Jackson seems more like a family than WLF and Scars. People work together for each other. They don't have an artificial mantra they spout at each other to create some superficial bond. If someone wants to run off from Jackson, they might get lectured, but no one's really going to stop them. Abby does that and becomes an enemy of WLF. Maria seems like the best person in the whole series. She doesn't have time to go run off on adventures or care about revenge. She's got a city to run and people to take care of. Jackson is the only place that is also not hostile to outsiders. They'll trade and welcome people. But, don't fuck with them.
For anyone interested in reading them, here's my last several articles over on Medium - prerecordedlive
After finishing Last of Us Part II here are my definitive top 10 games of the generation 9.Bloodborne 8.Uncharted 4 7.Spiderman 6.Red Dead Redemption 2 5.MGSV 4.God of War 3.Last of Us 2 2.Horizon Zero Dawn 1.Witcher 3 The reason there are only 9 games listed is because everything is probably gonna get moved down 1 spot when cyberpunk arrives. 6 of them are PS4 exclusives not bad.
Agreed. I haven't finished it yet think I got about half way through so didnt feel comfortable ranking it
I am not really a fan of JRPG's and the game doesn't sound like something that would jive for me, but everyone talks about how great it is so I may have to try it one of these days
Great list, got me thinking of mine, looks a bit different from most, at least in the bottom half. If i had finished it, Hollow Knight would have absolutely been in my top 10, that game is incredible, so deep and difficult but completely fair. Honorable Mention - Just Cause 3, best sandbox/playground game out there, everything blows up sooooo gooooood. 10. Little Nightmares 9. Journey 8. South Park: Stick of Truth 7. Spiderman 6. Doom 2016 5.God of War (not finished yet but comfortable saying this is the lowest I expect it to go) 4.Uncharted 4 3.Last of Us 2 2.Horizon Zero Dawn 1.The Last of Us
1. COD Warzone 2. GTA V 3. The Division 4. Star Wars Battlefront I don’t play many video games but remember these sticking out as bringing joy to my life. I play(ed) all of these online with friends. Warzone being cross platform is what makes it number 1 for me. It’s really helped my friends and I out through quarantine
1:Bloodborne 2:God of War 3:Dark Souls 3 4:Dark Souls remastered 5:The trailer to demon souls 6:Not RDR2 7: probably not TLOU2 8:Family game night 9: The Vault Of Glass 10:TD
Its very important to understand that no "best games of ps4 era" list should contain previous generation games. 1. Divinity: Original Sin 2 2. Years 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 of Destiny 3. Nier: Automata 4. Bloodborne 5. Overwatch 6. HZD 7. Persona 5 8. Until Dawn 9. Stardew Valley 10. Monster Hunter: World HM: south park, ff14, apex, re2:r, ff7:r, death stranding, life is strange, soma, what remains of edith finch, probably more
Right you are, I forgot Journey was on PS3 first, I'll swap in Just Cause 3 for that one then. Shows how horribly late I was to the Journey party
will read later. ultimately i think they just didnt realize how important until well into the ps3 era and at that point it was too late. ps3 architecture is supposed to be irrationally difficult to work with. so theres probably legitimate "we'd like to be we genuinely cant do it" issues with anything from that era and potentially before that. i dont expect similar problems moving forward.
EDIT - You're right about Stick of Truth, I googled it as both PS4 and PS3 release dates and got the same date, went back and looked and saw the PS4 version didn't happen til 2016. Taking my laps lol. TLoU for sure, but Stick of Truth I looked up, it released after PS4 came out but had a simultaneous release on PS3 and PS4, so I consider it a PS4 game
Nope you were right, my Juggsian research was flawed, it released in 2014 for PS3 but didn't get PS4 release until it was available digitally in 2016.
no doubt, i watched a stream of it and was dying the whole time, bought it later on and never ended up playing it but my son has played through it about 5 times now, its fantastic.
I'm not either, but it has a much better pace than most JRPGs. It's hard to compare it to anything really. The art, the music, and the atmosphere are all really unique
Yes, Emotion Engine and everything about the PS3 was a stone cold pain in the ass to develop for, which hurt them tremendously, in the wallet and everywhere else. As we saw, they didn't catch up to Xbox until the very end of the generation, when everyone had figured out the tricks to program for it. I agree that now with PS4 and PS5 sharing an architecture, and if there is a PS6 likely it will too, there should be no problems with back-compat. But I truly believe, if they wanted to do so, they could have just thrown money at the solution and figured it out, brute-forced it, whatever. But they just don't care that much, and their approach makes that clear. They bought into cloud gaming back in the day, and they are determined to make it work, as ham-fisted and backwards as their approach may be at times. Between the shit-ton of money they are printing with remastered versions of games, and the subscriptions to PS Now, they have absolutely no reason to go back to the PS3 or beyond. You say they didn't realize how important it was, but I just don't see it that way. I truly believe everyone at Sony corporate is truly mystified as to why people want to play old crappy looking versions of games on a physical disc, full stop. And if they do, they think people are going to be overjoyed that they can just stream them.
I was/am a fan of the old school jrpg's back in the day but these days there's just way too much dialogue. I have P5 but haven't played it because I anticipate tons of dialogue boxes or monologues
Working on an article about the best set pieces in Playstation history. In case it's not as widely used as I think it is, set-pieces are the wow moments in a game, like the train in Uncharted 2, blowing up Megaton in Fallout 3, etc. Let me know your favorites!
coming down the mountain after chapter 1 of rdr2 the first time i found the large cliff in the earlier parts of hzd overlooking the desert area with all the flying things in the sky
but i would have to play more than 15 hours of the game to see that which i will absolutely never do just watched it. less cinematic, also no climate transition which i thought was a large part of why it was so impressive
