People usually have loyalty to people who give them complete autonomy over their work + the platform to make tens of millions of dollars
I’m partially with you but if you don’t call out racist behavior it’s just going to keep repeating itself. And honestly what’s more likely to happen, Portnoy hits the bricks or Barstool’s black employees quit and the company just goes about its business?
I think that he and most of the content people genuinely like Dave, too. That was the weirdest part of that podcast. Aside from Brandon Newman, who has been there for less than a year and Trill/Tyler, they all kind of took more of a "I like him, but he's out of line" type angle.
The video is from 4 years ago and all of those guys joined in the last couple of years and haven’t seen him do anything racist or sexist since they’ve been there?
You keep saying that, but it's not true. The Ja Rule party he's talking about in the video where he raps the n-word was in 2018. And, his response of defending it now is hurtful to "all those guys [who] joined in the last couple of years."
Racist shit heads don’t tend to say racist shit in front of the demographic of people their demeaning. Mostly because they know their racist shit heads who’ve been protected by their status and positioning and those in their circle don’t call them on their bull shit. Portnoy isn’t some unusual anomaly, I’ve seen dumb fucks like him all my life. They say racist shit and then say, I’m not racist and friends and family rarely if ever call them out.
think youre confusing the video 4 years ago with the one where Dave Portnoy and Big Cat bash the shit out of Samantha Ponder for being a Slut. That was in 2017.
That makes the whole situation worse imo. It's been clear who Portnoy is for years but somehow it's only relatively recently that these people with so much autonomy finally decided to confront it
pretty sure the hill you died on was your incessant recitation of the company's supposed $valuation and content autonomy culture idk why you keep coming back for second helpings of defending the indefensible
I don't want this to come off as a defense to that video, because it's not. But, because you brought her up and it goes to the larger tone of the thread, Ponder has really skated on being a Liberty-grad, far-right sports media member.
this is coming from someone who does not watch the sports media where Ponder would ever be on or be talked about so i'm way out of my depth but does she incorporate all that into her job/tweets/etc? i knew the Ponders were turbo religious folks is about the extent of it
I admittedly do not pay much attention to them, either, but I do know she’s involved with Focus on the Family and similar problematic groups that drew criticism for Brees and Dabo.
Being that she’s married to FSU over achiever legend Christian Ponder, I know more about her then I care to get into. If I remember, she grew up in a predominantly black community because her dad was a coach in Texas. That doesn’t mean she can’t or isn’t infected by liberty dynamics but she always seemed thoughtful or aware of her media presence.
Ponder stuff was 2014, 2017 is when it got brought up because of Big Cat/Pft getting the show on ESPN https://www.google.com/amp/amp.awfu...d-sam-ponder-call-new-barstool-coworkers.html
Hey man, the distance between not liking Portnoy and being pro sweatshops to Pro Syrian genocide is two steps.
100 percent. And I maintain that consuming Barstool and similar things (Maxim magazine, if it still exists) should cease as soon as you enter the adult world. Lots of toxic adolescence that should, at best, be a phase and not a world view.
Lots of Barstool Bros are surely debating which season of Entourage is the best season in the year of our lord 2020
i get that some of you like some of their content but i can’t ever imagine liking something enough that i’d defend a company whose leader is an actual racist
If you’re so grown up then you should have no problem meeting me in a Hy-Vee parking lot and settling this like men.
I do wonder at what point the line gets drawn for a lot of tmb'ers. Folks itt going hard after barstool but don't have the same energy for Joe Rogan, who gives an outlet to literal white supremacists. Also see several people itt who still actively support MAGA Kanye "slavery was a choice" West. (I know glc said that was a schtick, but I still haven't seen Kanye admit that). Just some observations. Y'all carry on.
joe rogan is a fucking idiot kanye has completely changed his tune recently, unlike portnoy’s dumbass once again, quit caping for racists
Kanye West has set up a fund to cover the cost of university for George Floyd's six-year-old daughter Gianna. He's also donated£1.5 million ($2m) to other causes, including paying the legal fees of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, who were killed in 2020. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/newsbeat-52936370
actions speak louder than words he’s quite literally donating to support blm and helping to try to end oppression keep your barstool cape on though
This is a great point, and I will address it tomorrow with him on our weekly TMB Kanye conference call.
Wow, Portnoy not so subtle in dog whistling to his boogaloo boys now with his Hawaiian shirt *this is sarcasm*
“You can’t talk about the shitty person you are talking about because there are other shitty people out there, too” is the weirdest talking point.
Words speak pretty loudly too. I'm not capping for barstool. Idc what you consume. Just trying to figure out where the line gets drawn is all. You're a fan of Kanye, so you can look past the abhorrent shit he's said/done, even if he never actually addresses it or apologizes for it. Got it.
