My dad’s office had two positive cases in the last week and they are still coming in business as usual. I asked him if he thought that was odd and he said no because their desks were spread out and you have to wear a mask on the elevator. :(
Anecdotal: a friend in Phoenix who tested positive said doctors there see a trend where people that get sick with colds every year (or sinus infections, etc.) seem to do better with COVID-19 than those who are "in perfect health". I thought that was interesting. Also glad if true, because I've always got some random shit like that.
My wife got the COVID19 back around late May. We have been extremely safe about everything (working from home, not going in public unnecessarily, masks everywhere, wiping our delivered groceries down) and didn't interact with hardly anyone but she still got it. She started feeling shitty and having terrible migraines, fever, chills, nausea. Got her to a doc and while waiting on the results of the bloodwork and urinalysis and other tests they ran, she got tested for COVID19 at an urgent care place and tested positive. Then we heard back from her doctor saying it was a kidney infection caused by some other virus. The symptoms of the two viruses overlapped in a big way so who knows what caused what symptoms but she was absolutely miserable for over a week. I didn't leave the house and took care of her the whole time and just assumed I was going to get it or already had it and was asymptomatic because I felt 100% fine the whole time. Got tested anyhow and was negative. A couple weeks later I got an antibody test and that was negative as well. So I don't really know what to make of it all. In the past few weeks, I've heard of about 7-10 others we know (but haven't seen in many months) also testing positive. One Two will be pleased to hear this story.
None. She stopped her car in the parking lot of a Jack's once in mid May though to answer a phone call and that was probably what did it. They don't clean those restaurants, you know.
Thanks. Me too. She was really rough and in a lot of pain for over a week and had me legitimately worried but there were no coughing issues or any reason to think her breathing was a problem so I didn't take her to a hospital.
Husband and wife I know that have it are having some breathing issues. Both around 40 and in otherwise good health. Shit sucks
I'm always shocked, too, honestly: every time I've been by the Parkway East one, I think, "Wow, this will be it." But it's the Eastwood one, in which I've literally never seen anything shady happen (and visit probably twice a month) has guns out.
Is there anywhere around Birmingham that will accept household hazardous waste on a regular basis? The only things I'm finding online are annual/seasonal events for each city where you can drop off your stuff, but the events only last a day. Plot twist: I was trying to be environmentally friendly and read online to mix latex paint with cat litter, let it dry out, then it's safe to throw in the trash. Well I had a few beers working in the yard before I started pouring latex paint into 5g buckets, and wasn't paying close attention and accidentally poured polyurethane (oil) based stain into the bucket with the latex. I immediately realized I just fucked up and created a massive headache for myself. Sure enough, ~8 weeks later in the Alabama sun and mixed with ~4lbs of cat litter, and the bucket still hasn't dried up, so whether a HHW disposal business will even take it is uncertain. Transporting this noxious gloop is a whole other issue.
Oh I'll never try and do the right thing again, I've learned my lesson. But I'm not sure that's viable with this sludge
The guys we have in Vestavia are the best in the biz. They’ll literally take anything i can fit in our trash cans. Once filled both cans up with porcelain tile bits, paint cans, and other trash from when i renovated the bathrooms...no questions. Recently had some trees taken down and stacked on the road...no questions. Dude with the claw saved me a ton of time when he came by and grabbed a 15-20’ section of trunk and tossed it in the truck like it was a toothpick.
winner winner chicken dinner also at this point the Galleria would be a viable option too but wear kevlar
It's amazing how much better the round table is than any sports talk around Atlanta. I know, I know. Who listens to local sports talk when there are hundreds of podcasts out there, but I still like a little local flavor due to nostalgia reasons. I listen to the roundtable rewind podcast pretty much every day.
Call Big Sky Environmental. That's the end location of where it would end up, but I don't know if they'll take it directly from you. If not, they'll probably be able to instruct you on who will.
Oh, I know I must be in the vast minority. I'm pretty aware of this sort of thing, too. Maybe it's like my luck in Houston...every time I've been there, it's never been more than 80 degrees...(and some visits in summer...)
Glad you asked this. I have a similar problem with a ton of old paint. I've got a fair amount of oil-based primer, too, since I live in an old house and you have to use that on old oil base. To riff on the theme...what about electronics disposal? I'd forgotten we had 2-3 old laptops just hangin' out in a closet. We moved our oldest into his own room, I had to clean these up, etc. So, I've got two old computers and some external drives that need to be junked. Also have some good condition computer parts from a newer Dell I'd like to sell, but can throw those away, too.
Staples does that. edit: https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/sustainability-center/recycling-services/electronics/ In an effort to keep our customers and associates safe, our tech recycling program has been temporarily suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Am I the only one addicted to the frozen margs at Crafts/Miss Dots? I feel like I get one almost every day.
If any of you voted in the democratic primary in March and can't vote in the Republican runoffs, remember to vote tomorrow in the Jefferson County Treasurer race. Rod Scott is entirely too qualified for the position and would be a huge benefit to Birmingham.
I was actually wondering if that race was consequential at all. Do you mind giving just a brief overview of why he’d be good so I can pass along to friends (edit: only if there’s something beyond his impressive google resume)
In addition to his resume, he's one of the hardest working guys in the legislature. He was the primary engine behind payday loan reform and taxing online sales.
Play there once a month or so in the good season. Did you play in the Kitchen Pass group? Absolutely love it up there.
Appreciate that, I'm not out of the woods yet and that ladder is about a foot short of ideal. Gotta get back up there and fuck with it later today.Visions of Christmas Vacation running through my head.
