Crafting in what sense? You mean the gun mods? Oh, they still matter a ton, they just don't affect damage to anywhere near the same level; their primary concern is increasing range, accuracy, clip size, recoil (which is really strong on the big guns) or fire rate. He introduced a ton of new ammo types as well, which offer options to boost damage in that way; for example, you can equip a 10mm pistol with a .44 receiver to boost damage, but lower clip size.

Other things I like about it:

    - Your running speed going forward is significantly faster, but also significantly slower going backwards, and when overencumbered on survival, you don't take damage but take -20 to agility. It can make for some nerve-wracking trips when hauling loot to a base.
    - Lockpicking has gone back to Skyrim-style; you can attempt to pick any lock you find, but it's really difficult (even on novice) without getting perks and bobby pins are tough to find.
    - If you have the requisite skill level, there's no terminal minigame, you just pick the correct password.
    - Items have a tag that easily sort them by style (aid, chem, food, drink, nuka, etc.)
    - Each point of strength is worth 25 pounds of extra equipment, and power armor boosts your strength by 10.

I wouldn't be against crafting inFO4 if there were a blueprint system and there were mats that were more rare that were essential to crafting.

I've enjoyed bethesdas work over the years. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 are all games that would make my top 20 list I'd imagine if I made one. Skyrim started a trend that started marginalizing exploration in these games and with so much freedom to be had I feel like exploration should be at the forefront.

I have other issues with FO4 from a story/side quest perspective but I coulda looked past those issues if it were more enjoyable for me just to tear off and immerse myself in the world. I understand that the popularity of these games have caused Bethesda to dumb it down a bit but as a long time fan, the past two games aren't what I came to enjoy.

I'm also very picky about video game quality in my old age. I'm very hard to please unless the person that makes the game is named Hidetaka Miyazaki

One of the highest levels of praise I can level towards this mod, when used in conjunction with any kind of mortal settlers mod, is that it creates a sense of ownership and pride in how you put settlements together. That first enemy raid I mentioned, where every settler in Tenpines Bluff was killed, actually made me feel bad because I wasn't able to create defenses suitable for them. You reevaluate how you approach that aspect of the game and actually give a crap about setting up a living, breathing town instead of just using it as a place to store gear or play the Sims. Because NPCs use ammo and everybody's HP is so low, I work to provide good armor and guns for my guys. I actually have to try and create real, strategically advantageous walls instead of just slapping together junk fences. Turrets need to be positioned all over the settlement instead of just at the entrance area to maximize coverage. It's actually pretty neat because you can make a turret for every ammo type in the game, and some can be crafted with the gun that uses it (laser and Institute pistols/rifles are one example). You're not just "the General", you're THE FUCKING GENERAL and there's a much greater level of strategy and accomplishment involved in taking the Commonwealth back one settlement at a time. I tend to prefer Minutemen playthroughs generally, but with this it takes on much greater significance and I actually feel worthy of being its leader.

Every time I read this thread I'm all "damn I need to load this back up and finally finish the story mode". Then I'm like "well shit I need to finish skyrim too". Then I put destiny in and talk to all my destiny friends while running around with no strategy and shooting things.

At level 30 now (with probably close to 100 hours put in) and still haven't even gotten Nick Valentine yet. I'm nearly to the point where I can comfortably develop the resources necessary to buy shipments of gun powder to craft the really powerful turrets (.50 cal and laser cannon), at which point I can shore up some of the weaker settlements against raids. Only Sanctuary, The Castle, the Slog, Tenpines Bluff and a couple others have the defense/city layout to withstand the big raids at the moment, and a big part of that is they've survived a couple already, so they're the best equipped of all the the settlements.

Oh, and bloodbugs and stingwings can go fuck themselves, that poison is not to be messed with on this mod.

Just bought fallout 4 on summer sale on steam this week and fired it up tonight. I’ve always struggled with fallout games picking the SPECIAL stats. Literally the hardest part of any Bethesda game. I’m too indecisive because I want 10s in everything but I don’t know what perks are worth a shit.

3 hours in. Fun ish so far but Skyrim is better so far m.

fallout 4 was the first and only fallout game i played. sunk 100+ hours into it... i liked it a lot and not sure why people tend to dislike it -- outside of it being the same engine and everything. pretty copy and paste from all other bethesda games like it but the game itself is very enjoyable i felt like.

yeah, and i'm not able to compare since i never played those. for skyrim, fallout, games that size and design i just find it difficult to even keep the story straight since i might do a main story mission here and then not come back for another story mission until 15 hours of gameplay later because i've been exploring the other side of the map and doing side missions for so long. i guess story is more secondary to me in those types of games since they're less linear.

Most criticism of Fallout 4 centered around what it lacked in comparison to other FO games. Stripped RPG elements like a lack of skill points and skill checks, lack of agency in dialogue (the infamous “yes, sarcastic yes, question, no before yes” tree), character background and quest selection, even seemingly innocuous things like a voiced protagonist. These are difficult or impossible to mod out.

I choose to focus on the good aspects; the settlement system, while clearly not perfect, is a welcome addition to the franchise, along with the expansion of companion relationships, the improved gunplay, the weapon and armor modification systems, and the increased number of factions to choose from. They are elements that can be included in FO5 along with tweaking some of the other elements back towards what New Vegas did.

Say what you want about Bethesda, especially after the cash grab that 76 was, but they’re willing to try new things and take chances with their games, unlike fellow micro-transaction magnate EA. My hope is that Cyberpunk 2077, like Witcher 3, provides a blueprint of what to do for massive open-world games for the future.

I’ve said it before in this thread but they tried to make the paths you choose all a shade of gray instead of obviously good or evil like in the other games. Instead of getting a compelling story you end up not giving a fuck about any of the factions.

New Vegas did this as well.

To me, the obviously good ending was the Minutemen, it’s just that the game didn’t do a great job of demonstrating your impact or station through NPCs, and people HATED Preston Garvey and his cavalcade of settlement quests.

I should have said “to a degree”. The Legion is clearly evil and House/the NCR is the better option, but neither are necessarily great options for the Mojave.

I ended up going 10 char and 10 INT and after getting about 7-8 levels I think I’d rather go Str/End heavy and full melee.

I’m like 6-7 hours in, really don’t want to start over but I hate my build. Charisma seems worthless and INT only seems good if you take a lot of the INT perks

Charisma of 6 is ideal; gives access to local leader, which is vital for settlement building. You can buff it with gear/drugs when necessary for speech.

Did you only do SPECIAL training for your first perks?

Don't fully spec into any of the special stats. Each stat has a bobblehead that gets you an extra point, and you'll also be able to upgrade your stats from the perk tree

I ended up starting over and balancing the special stats more how I wanted them. Took half as long to get back to same spot, wasn’t so bad. Went 5 in strength and took 2 levels in melee weapons + blacksmith and have a serrated switchblade that just erases everything. Fun build.

Max sneak with silenced weapons and melee is broken. At least it was when I did my first couple of runs. I could sneak up to a leveled super mutant behemoth (at level 150) and one shot it with a melee weapon.

You should be able to open up the list from the game's start screen. Fallout Miami is being developed exclusively for PC though. At least that was the case the last time I read up on it

Also, if you have to play on console, xbox is better for mods if you have the option

Played it a lot tonight after kids went to bed. Making great progress. Settlements up and running well.

biggest single gripe so far: I’m always seemingly fighting carry capacity/encumbrance and I have no where to sell my shit. I want to keep exploring and exploring and going from place to place but after like 2 ADs ventures I have to fast travel around the world just to sell my shit to get down weight enough to go back out

Like I have had to make 4 traders in my settlements + Connie Abernathy + Green Robot and I feel like they are always out of caps. I’m at 6000 caps but not sure what I’m supposed to spend them on yet.

    A. What’s your modlist? There are several very good overhaul mods to deflate the economy such that you’ll never have the problem of traders running out of caps.
    B. What are you selling? Guns, armor, expensive materials, etc. should be given to your settlers or saved for settlement projects.
    C. Are you prioritizing what you pick up? Unless you’re facing dire shortages, items with steel or wood can typically be left behind in favor of electronic junk or things with other rare components.
    D. Shipments, shipments, shipments. Don’t just sell stuff to traders, get shipments of materials for settle the building; the raw materials run out more quickly than you think?
    E. Are you carrying more weapons/apparel than you need? Three guns (long, middle, and short range) and a light knife are more than enough, along with your armor.

A - like to play vanilla when I first play a game. Get the real experience first.
    B - I shouldn’t be selling guns?
C - random stuff that is worth caps or has gears/circuitry. I am not short of anything
D - maybe I’m still early in the game, but I haven’t really been building a ton of stuff in the settlements. Just turrets and water/food and then stores when I need it. Power for radio beacons, etc. Haven’t found much need for building “buildings”.
E - I like to carry a wide range of weapons. 1 melee, a pistol, a shotgun, automatic rifle and a sniper rifle.

B - I do. Trashcan Carla usually spawned outside my sanctuary workbench and is very convenient
C - I focus on aluminum and oil because I usually run out of those first. Also if you grow tato, mutfruit, and corn you can cook adhesive which makes scavenging easier and also provides XP

    Def not.

    1. You can scrap them for parts.
    2. The mods on them can be removed and placed on your own weapons.
    3. If you give a nice gun to a settler with one bullet of that gun’s ammo type, they will use it and have infinite ammo. That doesn’t work with big guns like missile launchers or the Fat Man, but give 20 settlers nice battle rifles and combat armor and you’ll never have to worry about their defense again.
