Yeah DSM is damn good. I’ve got a bottle of Shifting Landscapes (wine barrel aged plum sour) and a bottle of Mischief Managed (foeder-fermented guava passion fruit Berliner weisse) in the fridge right now and they’re both damn good too. Like I said, living as close as I do to the west midtown location, pretty much any/all small batch release they do is worth it for me.
I've got two Monday night bottles that are going in the fridge now because of this convo. Forgot I had them stashed.
Lmk when you pop them and I’ll pop one of mine in a show of solidarity. Probably going to head down there in a bit as is Friday tradition.
Knew I had that Mischief Managed Owsley because I fiend for guava, but I have a 2019. They had a 2020 as well when I picked these up last month, but there's a sweet spot with funky beers I've found that's usually a bit aged. But not too old. Fine line.
Started with the single IPA around 6 PM and unknowingly went to a double for dinner at 7 PM, then grabbed a triple around 8:30 PM and got the idea. Thought I spaced it out enough, but quit as I was falling asleep during a movie on the couch during the second double. My mouth tastes like cotton this morning, gonna have to down like a gallon of water
IPA: Highland Park Electric Living hazy (2nd to last can), 4.5/5 DIPA: Bottle Logic Double Actuator west coast (last can), 4.0/5 TIPA: Monkish Oculars hazy, 4.75/5 DIPA: Highland Park Cloud Party hazy (2nd to last can), 4.25/5 Gonna miss that round of Highland Park Hazy's. Drank a couple Casa's on Friday night.
I think it's be tough for me to name 5. Sierra Nevada's has been good since they switched to a marzen style. Cahaba from Bham had a really great oktoberfest one year and then the next it didn't hit the same. I've definitely had some solid European ones but I don't recall which ones at this point.
I think the whole pumpkin beer thing is pretty played out but the Great Divide Pumpkin Spice Yeti is pretty tasty.
Actually just grabbed a 6 pack of yuengling Oktoberfest this morning. If it's the same as last year, it's pretty solid. Not going to win any awards, but for the price and availability it's always welcome in my fridge
I'm making the move to the Big S (suburbs) this week and casually mentioned to my Mom that the thing I was most worried about moving was my glassware collection. It was a pain in the ass to move when we last moved 4 years ago, and it has grown substantially since then. My mom, bless her heart, went to Home Depot and bought a glass packing kit that fits 20 glasses. I'm too embarrassed to tell her how many more I'm going to have to buy before the move.
Question for you guys. If you buy beer, let's say particularly hoppy beer, and leave it in a car trunk for one night, would that skunk the beer assuming it's not exposed to light, but exposed to pretty hot temperatures? From google searching, it seems like light is the bigger issue to beer than heat, but I'm sure this doesn't help. Trying to figure whether to buy a bunch of beer tomorrow, but they would need to sit in a car overnight on Wednesday before getting back to me on Thursday.
Any time your shipping beer, commercially or independently, it's going to get hot on a truck, somwhere along in the process. It's just the nature of the beast. One night, I wouldn't worry about it much at all. Only thing I wouldn't do is maybe something that is heavily fruited. But IPAs, it shouldn't drastically change or damage the beer.
