If you're voting in the Mtn Brook election tomorrow, please vote for incumbent Phil Black for City Council. Great guy, hard worker, and seems to be interested in it for the right reasons. Thank you kindly.
I get the impression that Mountain Brook city offices are not paid while Homewood's are. There are signs everywhere in Homewood, and I haven't seen any sign of a campaign in Mountain Brook.
I did grow up with one of his daughters. Only thing I like about Gerald Garner is that his name is the same as the name of the main character in the movie Heavyweights.
The only campaigning I’ve seen in the MB race other than yard signs is the email I got from Barves2125 mom.
According to my wife, there has been some shit talking on Facebook about it over the past day or so. Heard a story of one lady threatening another that she will tell people not to go to her store ever again if she doesn't vote for Garner.
You’ll all be glad to know this woman’s business will not be suffering. Garner won. Of course a Black wouldn’t win in Mountain Brook.
Betola, Bottega, Pizzeria GM, Post Office Pies, Davenport’s (thin crust), and Tortuga’s (deep dish) are all good.
Saw a list with Post Office Pies that made it sound really good but later on in the list they had the Montgomery Mellow Mushroom listed. I will drive to Birmingham to give the wood fired oven at Post Office a try.
Haven’t eaten Davenports in like 3 years but last time I ate it it was absolutely delicious. Little Italy wasn’t terrible either under their old management.
Lately I’ve enjoyed Iron City Pizza, but no where that I’ve tried in Birmingham is what I’d consider must eat pizza, which is unfortunate because pizza is one of my favorite foods. For the record, I’m not the biggest NY style pizza fan, so Post Office Pies isn’t my cup of tea so don’t let my negativity influence your meal tonight
If I ever open a restaurant, it’ll be a pizza restaurant geared towards a specific style of za. I haven’t found the style anywhere in the south (but I’m sure it’s around somewhere), and I think it’d be a hit
I don't mean to be a pedant, but I don't find POP to be a "NY style pizza", at least if we're talking about a greasy, delicious slice like God intended.
I went back and forth on whether I should include that qualification. I agree it's not exactly NY style, but it's not really Neapolitan either.
Bottega and Betola are probably the two best in Bham if you are going for the real deal wood oven Neopolitan style. I like Post Office a lot too though.
I’ve heard that the new place in Cahaba Heights is great, but I haven’t had it. I also like Bongiorno as an under-the-radar pick.
Troup’s. I would call it “unique”. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. The sauce and cheese were very different, kindof hard to describe. The cheese is more tangy than normal mozzarella. And I think the sauce has a ton of oregano in it.
Good to know. It’s close to my office, so a coworker was raving about it the other day. I may hold off on trying it. Has anyone had the pizza at Mom’s or Area 41?
Area 41 is good. Seems to always be soggy af tho if you get it take out. Solid pizza though. Always packed to eat inside.
mom's isn't doing pizza anymore. think they'll be back eventually. it wasn't all that great to start but really improved so it's a shame
