Thanks, I wondered. I usually drive by very early on the way to work, but seemed like nothing had changed at the old Lolo's in a long time.
I got Mom’s pizza when they first started doing it and the garlic knots weren’t cooked all the way through.
To me, Slice is like Filling station (but better). You get something really good sometimes, and then like 1/3rd of the time you get something really shitty. I make a rip-off of the soul pie at home A LOT.
Haven’t had Slice yet. Had friends go and say it was good but I plan to try it soon. They just put one on Cahaba River Road off 280 not long ago.
This is fair. I used to like their wings but every other time I'd get shitty burned wings. The Spicy Hawaiian is the only pizza I ever eat from there and it's always great though. (Seemingly) Fresh jalapenos and fresh pineapple go a long way for me.
Also, no love for Dave's Pizza in Homewood?? Not like many other pizzas in the area IYAM. And quite delicious. Great wings too.
Gianmarco's and Bottega. We got takeout from Bocca Ristorante the other night and it was fire. I also like Bongiorno's and Betola.
Slice is our favorite. But FIlling Station is really underrated and we used to get it frequently when we lived over there. I love taking the kids to davenports because they can be loud as shit in there and it's not a big deal. but i'm not really a thin slice guy so pizza is just alright for me. haven't found a great place in vestavia yet.
Slice has a Vestavia location now. Over off the backside of the Colonnade though so not that easy to access from most of Vestavia.
Bettola, Bottega, and Gian Marcos are the big three Italian Bham spots in my opinion. Presented in alphabetical order to avoid bias. Also on the pizza note I haven’t had Pizzeria GM yet, is it any good?
yeah we are so far north in vestavia that we are closer to homewood than that part of Vestavia. we are over there just north of the movie theater off 31.
there was some hole in the wall italian place in Homewood I took my parents to a few years ago. It looked shitty but I still think about how awesome that Baked Ziti was.
I think you and The Blackfish probably live pretty close then if I'm not mistaken. Think he said they're fairly close to the movie theater as well.
I've thought it was on the brink of shutting down for ten years. It's gone through all of the typical progressions toward shutting down -- breakfast service, kids eat free, opening Sundays, etc.
whats the best place to get an espresso in this town? my wife is sick in the bed all week (no covid PTL) and i'm dying over here trying to work chasing around the kids.
yes we had plans to go to my mom's house at lake lanier this weekend too. Had a tee time with my brother already set! But our doctor told us to play it safe because often the first test is negative, and the patient comes back a week later with a positive test. So now we are team quarantine for another week at least.
nah negative test this morning. Just don't us to be the ones that give my mom in her mid 60's COVID if she comes back and does end up having it. My kids have been in daycare since May. I'm honestly surprised we haven't gotten it yet.
I second the Red Mountain Expresso recommendation, but Revelator is too damned proud of their coffee. It's absurdly expensive.
Agreed. It seems like they’ve monopolized the espresso market in Birmingham though. Depending on which part of town you’re in you should be able to find a local shop that does it pretty well.
Think you can get a good espresso at all these, but probably just as expensive as Revelator. Filter Domestique Baba Java Seeds Innova Red Cat
What about Santos at 3rd and 21st Downtown? I seem to remember getting a demitasse there but have no recollection of how it was.
Thoroughly enjoyed it last night. Table service is a little wonky but it was nice. You can order from your phone and they bring to your table, but you have to put in the CC info every single time. They also have a floating server you can start a tab with but he wasn't fast enough with the beers for us. Space Lettuce on draft was my favorite beer (IPA) but I also had the taco tuesday which was good and I love the Dr. Robot sour which I have been buying in cans. I had the steak tacos as well and they were good.
