Same with big blue button on canvas. Sucks too because just like nearpod, it has student participation features
That’s cool and all. I was referring to the post you made about not updating your lesson plans, not answering the phone call or calling your principal back, and not participating in professional development and meetings. But whatever works I guess.
Have you tried google slides and pear deck? slides might have a tough time converting the PowerPoint’s but might be worth a try rather than starting over.
I’ve been starting one person Zoom meeting where I share my screen and go through my PowerPoint like in class, recording it, uploading it to YouTube, and THEN putting it on Nearpod
Our district has gone full Google suite and I have until December to stop using Office apps. Fucking sucks. I’ve got an idea, Google...develop a non-web-based Gmail app
We’re google suite and I love it bc I just share links to my docs, slides, etc through the course pages in Schoology. I typically update or revise items each year, so if I do it in the doc or slides I don’t have to put it a new link. Also allows the kids to just make a copy of items if they want to put their own additions or answers.
- I screenshare on google meet from my computer - log into google meet app on my phone at the same time and lecture
Google is superior in education so easy and streamlined. https://www.mrssandoval.com/teacher-resources/
All I know is I’ve had kids turn in Google docs for assignments and 99% of them “I don’t have permission to view”
Mine submit the assignment file right back to me without the answers. How hard is it to save the file with your answers? If that’s still a problem, use the text entry box
Don’t have that problem bc the students have had school gmail accounts since elementary school. When I moved to the district I learned the google stuff from them.
my group all has google accounts through our district and I still had them have issue of not having permission. Also last spring they couldn’t use their school email to login to zoom so that was fun.
in classroom if you make a copy for each student then they just have to hit submit. There shouldn’t be any issues with permissions. always give them the template to write on
Not mad. Just rubs me the wrong way when teachers brag about not changing lesson plans and bragging about students failing their tests. But carry on.
Oh I’ll smile in their faces and tell them they failed. They better start reading their notes if they want to pass. It really rubs me the wrong way that the majority of them think I owe them a passing grade for just showing up. I’m their dose of reality and they come out of my class better because of it. Also, I’m not overhauling a lesson plan for a class I’ve taught 5 straight years. Minor changes yes, major no. If you want to have that “change the world mentality” go right ahead. More power to you.
I regret this back and forth. You made it seem like all you did was change the dates on your lesson plans; that’s not good practice. I agree with not overhauling them, but they likely need modification from year to year. And the laughing at students that fail, I’ll never get on board with. If one or two students don’t read, study, try, etc., yes, that is completely on them, and they should pay the consequences. If half of your class or close to it is failing, that’s on the teacher. Not about changing the world. It’s about doing what is best for students.
1. In spite of years using Google Classroom, my district decides to implement Schoology in the one year that continuity would have been nice. 2. Teachers are instructed to utilize the external tool platform to schedule WebEx meetings for the first day today. 3. At 8:45, 15 minutes before first period, the external tool crashes and students can’t access the WebEx meeting through Schoology, leaving sixth graders in the unfortunate scenario of having to utilize critical thinking skills and creative, flexible thinking. 4. ????? 5. Profit
It does the trick as a band-aid or for limited learners; not something I would like or recommend as a remote option.
https://www.thenorthwestern.com/sto...ols-start-year-completely-virtual/3451337001/ OSHKOSH – Students at two local schools won't be heading back to classes Tuesday after all, though district officials won't say why. Oshkosh North High School and Merrill Middle School students will not attend classes in person until further notice, according to letters the district sent to families Monday afternoon. The district cited "staffing limitations and circumstances beyond our control" and said it made what it called a "difficult decision ... based on information that we received (Monday) afternoon and after numerous attempts to problem-solve amid limited resources."
I will say I do love Schoology, but they did give us a year to play with it before fully implementing it.
Yes, I’m liking it. We were transitioning from Blackboard to it at jan 2020. No live classes at that point, but we got some training and we’re able to build stuff in the sandbox. I think they did a good job with the virtual training once we shut down. I can make it work well, but there a few of the features I’d like to less clunky, and they may be once I can focus on them in more detail.
We got access to schoology about two weeks before the first day and I like it so far. Found some pretty good videos on making a good home page and embedding google docs that link to different parts of the course so it's easier to navigate. My biggest complaint is how my school basically villainized online learning. So even though every has the choice, right now I have 1 student in my A&P class, 1 in PE, and 4 in my Health class online. So I'm double the planning and recording lessons (except for PE of course) for 6 students. One of the social studies teachers was basically bragging about how difficult he was making online for his students because he didn't want to deal with them and wasn't going to take time out of his day to record a lecture or anything. I really enjoy the school I'm at because it's a 2nd chance (or 3rd/4th) for a lot of the kids but sometimes the principal or other teachers do something that makes me think wtf. Just crazy to me.
Yep learned that this week. What a shit ass company and design who thinks the concept of extremely customizable is clicking the units they put into classes on and off.
We've had 2 days of in-school PD so far. Still no schedule. Admins have taken to handwriting our classes, but the master schedule is so fucked. Also, we've switched to Microsoft Teams and it is ass.
Did Microsoft Word cease to exist or does it work differently now or something? I have students sending me their "paper" and instead of it being a doc attached to an email like I'm expecting, they are just sending me a link to a Google doc or some shit. That I then can't open because I don't have access. Rarely seen before this semester and now seems to be how everybody gets down
"I took this class to “lighten my class load”, if you will, considering this class is notorious for being an “easy A” (my academic advisor even told me that, along with the many reviews on rate my professor). Yet, this class is becoming my biggest problem and most stressful class, and it definitely should not be. I am honestly at a loss of words and am so confused. I have a 4.0 GPA and received nearly a 100 in some of the business schools hardest courses, but I am failing a Core class? Something is not adding up here." Man somebody come get this girl before I go off. (This is not my class; they are complaining about a class on their schedule)
