Playing Morro Bay Golf Course today. We call it poor man’s Pebble Beach. Absolutely beautiful place to hit 100 or so golf shots.
We talked about EAL here recently. Holy shit at this eviscerstion of him by Kevin Van Valkenburg. https://refuge.nolayingup.com/t/the-eal-thread-pyramid-schemes/4302/4383
Eh, I wouldn’t call that an evisceration as much as KVV just pointing out the trajectory that EAL has taken and how it’s changed the perception of him.
I think I found EAL about a year ago through Adventures in Golf. Those first few seasons and his early content were great. He’s really transitioned nicely from quirky outsider to elitist insider though. His shtick sucks now.
Haha “DJ is 20 under par and hasn’t made a putt over...”. Let’s disregard he started the week at -10 Gary.
I’ve said similar things before in this thread, but the NLU guys actually do care about what they do. And when it comes to their relationship with touring professionals, retired players and influencers in the game, they NEVER make NLU bigger than the game itself. Yes, the coverage takes can get tiring but they’re normally spot on. We don’t need elitist pricks driving a further wedge between the content we consume and wanting to enjoy playing and watching golf. I think Shane Bacon and Max Homa have done a great job with their podcast and they simply don’t take themselves seriously. Hopefully COVID has shown the PGA Tour that quality analysis, less chatter about meaningless stuff and MORE SHOTS BEING AIRED is better for the viewing experience. I’d rather have Phil Mickelson tell me what’s happening on 18 at Winged Foot than EAL, AOL, Paige, etc. shoot a piece of content about 18 at Winged Foot.
Hit it really well this morning and shot a 38 on the front, and missed two putts that died half a rotation from dropping. Winds picked up in the afternoon and I fell apart on 17-18 with back to back doubles with tee shots that went OB to shoot a 44 on the back for an 82 today
ive really come to love max and Shane’s podcast. Homa spending 30 minutes detailing his thought process of going for it on 18 of the 3m vs laying up was great.
Have decided to take a more sensible approach on the golf course. Just trying to make sure I’m in play off of the tee instead of swinging hard and hoping. Played twice and won 5&4 and 4&3 since the change. Ty Webb is in trouble if he ever actually comes down here.
Missed two 3 footers for birdie and three putted from 5 feet today. Throwing darts and missing putts.
Have I asked this yet? I’m scrapping the three hybrids that were in the top of my bag and going to just one. And replacing the two hybrids with a 4/5 iron from my current cobra speed zone irons. The 5 I’m going the same shaft as my current set up. However I’ve seen a lot of people use the 4 as a driving iron and throw a graphite shaft into it. I was toying with the idea of doing that and if it doesn’t work just replace the shaft, it’s on 32 for the current shaft I have off of the kbs website. what do you guys think? Kbs v tour steel? Ust Mamiya recoil 460? True temper project x Catalyst 80? Gold jacket green jacket who gives a shit?
any experiences with taylormade M6 irons, thinking of upgrading my old-ass irons but have no idea what to look for and found a good price for them, or should i just go for a second hand set as a starting player?
How often do you guys re-grip your clubs? I gotta be damn near 200 rounds without regripping and at this point I am probably due for another set.
I do once a year. Throughout the season, usually on Sunday nights, I clean my clubs and I’ll also get the grips wet and scrub them with a towel and I feel like that has helped the tackiness over time. I bought the supplies to re-grip and to it myself too; you can sometimes get those deals where the box stores will do it for free if you buy enough grips but it’s really not too bad to do
I have had the same grips on my irons for 20 years, I think it is time for an upgrade. Shot an 81 the other day at a course I have never played at (6400 yrd). Almost drained a 20-foot birdie putt on 18 for an 80, one revolution short. Also, doubled a par 5 when I was sitting just short of the green lying 2. Duff my chip just on to the green and proceed to 4 putt . Get par there and I have a 79. Been shooting between 80-86 most of the year, feel like my game is close to posting in the high 70's. Need to tighten up the up and down game, but it is fun seeing small improvements.
