I wasn’t planning on picking up one at release, but after all this nonsense, my competitive nature has come out and now I MUST have one. Well played, Sony.
I'm hesitant to even mess with it, because I don't want mine to cancel but I got another email at like 7 PM last night saying don't miss out on your chance to preorder. When i click the link, it gives me the option to preorder another (only the $500 one is left). I'd be worried it didn't count my other one, but I've got a order confirmation, and checking my order number on the playstation website shows a preorder.
oddly enough, GameStop projected mine to arrive 3-5 business days later and offered to charge me $10 to guarantee arrival on release date but I declined and still arrived yesterday
Seems like a pretty big deal. But as long as they’re releasing on PC with no delays, still don’t need an Xbox console. I’ll get all this with game pass, too, presumably.
Yeah, that’s the model they’re following, which I think is smart and the future. Eventually all this is going to be streaming and we won’t need consoles, anyway. Whoever has the best service will rake it in.
MS had to do a business model shift. Sony won the console war so they decided to do something different.
10 years ago I would have cared about this. But unfortunately that was the last time Bethesda was actually good. Still good for Xbox because people will buy the name I suppose.
arkane is the only bethesda studio that actually makes good games, but yeah people will still buy an xbox just for elder scrolls
This is more about having that library to add to GamePass. The new Elder Scrolls won’t be an exclusive. A timed exclusive maybe, but they won’t just give up on that money.
That seems like a good list of games I'd play on PS4 and then not really care about any PS5 sequels. None of them are "OMG I NEED THE NEXT GAME" at least to me.
its a strange move considering deathloop is timed exclusive for ps5 and fallout 4 will be in the ps plus collection.
The new doom games have been awesome and wolfenstein has been pretty damn good also. This is a big time move.
Feels like we're about to get an arms race where third party companies are scooped up left and right, leaving only a handful of big name developers left making games for everyone.
The Bethesda move is shocking I thought MS might scoop WB games for all of their assets but this is a much bigger move
Somebody brought up the point that MS also owns Minecraft. They don't have it as an exclusive to XB, but they do get the sales for every purchase on all platforms.
This is America as a whole. Big companies are buying up smaller ones. I've worked with several private equity firms that buy up a bunch of small companies then sell it to an even larger company. All it does is lower the competition/quality which sucks.
This really feels like the streaming services bids (Netflix v Hulu v Disney+ v Amazon) to buy exclusive entertainment properties and that becomes the differentiator between platforms. No longer about the power/specs and online preferences and whatever else outside the games. All games would go exclusive except like EA and Activision.
I don’t believe these will go exclusive. PS has too large an install base and now MS need to pay this off. I’d bet large sums of money the marketing is tilted toward Game Pass and other than in the fine print PS isn’t mentioned.
Phil Spencer already came out and said they will honor current exclusivity deals with Sony and future games will be on a game by game basis. What better way to get people into your ecosystem then making a huge game like TES exclusive to MS platforms.
microsoft has a history of allowing certain games to go to other consoles, so it would shock me to see the big ones stay off of ps. as far as timed exclusives go, i think we will have to just wait and see. there's pros and cons of each scenario for microsoft.
