Lol in 2009 CBS Sportsline’s site gave the option to list your most hated players on your profile and I probably had half the NBA on there

Also I’m forever going to hold petty basketball grudges. Jamal Murray dribbled the ball around Lonzo like a jackass his rookie year and it’s fuck him forever

  3. I think the Lakers being bad for a few years made me appreciate basketball so much more. (This is pretty much a white privilege/fanage(?) post) I used to hate the Spurs teams back in the day, like truly despised them. But when they won in 2014 I really loved watching them play basketball. I still hate certain players from that era and this era but overall I appreciate the talent way more now .I think most of it was growing up as a person but the Lakers not being a contender definitely contributed to liking the league on a wider scope. I'd hardly watch NBA games unless it was the Lakers or the playoffs (sans the Bill Walton announcing Darius Miles, Q Rich, Shaun Livingston Clipper games era which was must watch TV) but have been actively watching the league way more now than in the past

Oh and same for Mike Malone. I remember him having a piss poor reaction when they asked him about Murray's behavior that night, essentially being just as dickish about it (from a laker fan perspective). Now I hear him tonight with foul call complaints and the petty memories come back....

Yeah, back in the day if they weren't a laker I didn't like them. These days there are at least a few players that I don't just appreciate but actually root for. Luka, for example.

Hating the Celtics isn't tribalism, it just means you're sane.

I don’t consider myself anything more than a causal NBA fan actually more of a casual viewer but as a lifelong Angeleno I hate the Celtics.

Sadly the more fans I’m exposed to of a given team on here the more likely I’ll end up hating a franchise just because of that

Watching Lebron drag his nuts all over the Nuggets to close it out has been fun.

Great way to close out the series.

Hopefully the other series goes to 7 and we can get our guys some rest.

Best in the west. What an amazing accomplishment for the entire organization. Job is not done but I don’t want to gloss over how amazing this is.

My recollection is that when Lebron signed with the Lakers 26 months ago few saw a path to the finals. I had my doubts after missing the playoffs last year. Total respect for him and AD.

i know the haters will always have their reasons, but 12-3 going into the finals is pretty remarkable. Especially for a team where most of the players are playing together for the first time this season. Portland, Houston, and Denver were legit teams to beat.

I’m seeing some LeBron is a ring chaser posts on FB from Lakers fans that apparently don’t like LeBron. I guess they want the team to only be built organically thru the draft.

Yeah I never understood the lebron hate from laker fans. I get it if that was an initial reaction because the media built the whole Kobe v. Lebron thing for years.... but it's been 2 years now. The dude literally joined a lottery team to be here. To be one of us.

There is no ring to chase without him.

    that’s idiotic

First, every player is a ring chaser.

Second, going to Cleveland and what this version of the Lakers was when he made the decision is not what I would call ring chasing.

Speaking of which, it pisses me off when we dribble the ball out at the end and let the shot clock expire when there is more than 24 seconds left in the game. Because the other team isn't going to dribble it out, 4 seconds left they're sprinting down the court for an easy uncontested layup. Annoying

It’s so weird how that has become the norm at the end of games. Players have gotten mad for teams shooting in that situation. It’s a crazy “unwritten” rule now.

isn't it akin to running up the score and padding the stat sheet? It’s like taking a knee at the end of a football game. Not sure the issue.

In a way. But if there are 5 seconds on the shot clock and 15 on the game clock, it makes sense to get the shot up to keep the game flowing instead of making the ref get the ball to take it out of bounds... imhv

I edited my post but IMO it’s no different than taking a knee at the end of a football game. Also in your scenario the guy basically has to shoot to miss because if he makes it the ref is still involved with the out of bound play.

I would say taking a meaningless 3 pointer is more akin to taking a knew. But whatever. It doesn't really matter. I am certainly noticing it more.

Attempting to score is the opposite of taking a knee.

but the point of a knee is to keep the clock moving

so is dribbling the ball out at the end of a game. If he takes a shot and makes it the ball goes out of bounds the “stop” of the clock in minimal in either the case of a made shot or running out the clock. I guess I don’t notice it anymore than the knee or anything else done to keep from running up a score at the end of the game.

to me taking a knee is when you are under 2 minutes left to go in the game....which is akin to the shot clock being off. We see teams run the ball and plays until there are less than 2 minutes so they can take a knee. We don't see football teams take a knee generally and then punt.

You’re right running the ball up the middle is a better analogy. My point is that they are doing it run out the clock and not run up the score. Seems like the right thing to do.
