The irony I left out is he is the one who had a Covid scare. A friend of one of his kids had it and slept over at his house one night. So he had to quarantine for 14 days about a month ago. I found this out the day after I was forced into a meeting in his office where he was 4 feet away from me and unmasked so I quarantined as well (and tested negative). He and his family also tested negative. But it's just insane that people don't take this seriously. And yeah coughing near him, he wouldn't give a shit.
The city next to Auburn cancelled Halloween then brought it back when the city of Auburn said its going down. The statement was basically we can't stop Halloween any more than we could Easter. Its going to be all out.
I know I'm on a soapbox about every WIGOP pos But this asshole right here has blocked Governor Evers' mandates since day 1, called the mask mandate illogical and illegal, blamed immigrant culture for COVID outbreaks in specific cities, and has been vocal about opening up, schools and businesses being full Yet here we are Mind you, here we also are: Showing up like this to vote and making a public mockery of masks: Snatched up half a million in COVID relief for his company On numerous occasions ranted that the COVID response was overblown Etc etc etc
The same people that are in the upper middle/upper class huddle are same ones that will start traveling and spending with a vengeance once things get going again. Then as others get back on their feet travel is really going to pop, there’s so much pent up demand. That’s true tho of all leisure, events, festivals, sports, etc. That is, if/when people feel safe again to mingle closely.
What will be interesting is the housing market. A lot of the travel money has gone into home inprovements. But couple that with the un- and under-employment numbers, upcoming evictions and foreclosures, and it’s going to be insanity.
the housing market down here is nuts right now, in my area houses are selling within hours of being listed officially. Glad I bought a year ago
Same thing in northern Utah. My next door neighbor sold and winning bid came in at $20K above asking price, within 24 hours of the open house.
I sold my house back in April on central coast of CA and moved into a rental and felt like a genius. Fast forward six months and I could have sold my house now for probably $50/75k more. We have lost out on bids three times to people from the Bay Area and each time the winning bid was $25/50k over ask within 48 hours of house being listed. Shit is insane and with the amount of people relocating here I don’t think it’s gonna stop.
It’s not natural. We’ve been thinking of selling. When the pandemic hit I thought, “Nah. Everyone is saving because of the pandemic. It’s a buyers market now”. Nope. It’s the strongest sellers market here in 30 years.
SIL is in the hospital with pneumonia developed from Covid. She picked it up in the nursing home she works in. It’s a little scary as he husband has it too so no one can help him out with their 4 year old and 1 year old.
As a Realtor, there’s a lot that goes into this and I think the pandemic isn’t much of a factor. It’s demographics mostly, largest home buying block in history is upon us plus boomers either buying 2nd homes or downsizing. We also didn’t build homes for like 8 years there. Then you throw in the lowest interest rates in history = It’s a hell of a market sure people are thinking suburbs more now but once this all over, people will still be flocking to urban areas as well
I thought this as well but something I didn't think about is a lot of people that could wait to move are doing just that. So the supply of houses is lower than it should be, couple that with lowered interest rates and you have a lot of people looking to buy, lock in low interest rates and not a lot of supply. Will be interesting to see what the market looks like on the back side of this and if we get a flood of houses coming on the market.
Had to read Freud in a grad-level PSc theory class, and I recall a passage where he argued that babies are very proud of their poop because it's the first thing they understand that they create, and they can gift it to their parents who have provided them with so much. It was a used text, and in the margins the previous owner had written "I love you mom, have some shit"
In LA we paid 42k over ask a few months ago and weren't even the highest bid. Could probably list the house for 20-30k over what we paid already. Houses we looked at were routinely going for 100k over ask.
Fuck, just found out a buddy of mine tested positive. His mother in law came in town from Michigan last weekend. She was coughing the whole time and said she had a light case of bronchitis. She tested positive for Covid 2 days after she got back. Now he's positive. His wife has stage 4 cancer.
They have my SIL in BiPAP along with the standard steroids, heprin, and are giving her some experimental antibiotic. It’s a little scary here. My wife is a wreck which isn’t good because our baby is due in 6 weeks. Shit sucks.
Beyond even yesterday. 69k+ with several CA counties unreported and NE (7 day avg of 767) means we'll have our first 70k day since July.
man. not going to pretend to know what it’s like to be in that position but wtf are you doing around your daughter battling stage 4 cancer during a pandemic and you’re symptomatic.
He’s probably right in that we can. Problem is it’ll require a ton of money to do properly which isn’t currently there. It’ll take a massive federal spending bill to pull off
MN has a hybrid option (2 days a week in class) and a 100% virtual option. With schools at 50% capacity our state has gone from about 650 cases/day when school started after Labor Day to about 1,600 per day now. We set a new state record with 2,297 cases today. Some of that is likely backfilling, but still... I don't see how full time schooling can operate safely without a massive federal financial investment along with nationwide buy in for masking, social distancing, etc.
there’s no amount of spending that’ll make 100% face to face instruction safe by next semester. my school has classes with over 30 kids- how are we pulling that off? don’t say hire more teachers because no one is signing up for this shit.
We did set a record for testing by almost 10,000 more tests and I believe the positivity rate actually came down from previous days. It seems the virus is finally exploding out state.
Wisconsin ended up at 4,041 to close Friday out. New record and a number that puts us very close to the #1 hotspot on the entire planet in terms of cases per capita (saw in twitter).
What’s the Midwest states doing for the fairs? I know those are the biggest deals around those parts, could seem some super spreaders if those operate without restrictions
