Never got to Pok Pok, but the first time I saw it on DDD I was blown away to say the least. The amount of love put into everything he did was clearly evident and I hope he refinds happiness in Thailand doing what he loves.
Sad. Have heard great things - especially the caramelized fish sauce wings. Did appreciate the ex-parrot line, however.
getting nervous locally about the Bar La Grassa group, just been shuttered the whole time all their places
I love BLG and my wife loves 112. I’d be very sad to see closures. I’m worried about Meritage in StP as well.
Yeah, it’s not cool but the good ones will rise to the top and might not be so overpriced after this. I know a pretty solid chef from here and it’s really not fun right now but if you are good you find ways to get customers. Take out with some instructions on how to cook. Or take out ready to eat. a lot of them will die though, but they will start up again when life gets a little more normal...because it will never be exactly like it was before the pandemic ever again.
First attempt at bread from scratch, was very happy with the turnout Used it for my first ever attempt at soup. Chicken tortilla soup, my presentation wasn’t great but it was awesome
Bar La Grassa was amazing. Hope they don’t shutter. Glad I made it to Pok Pok back in 2016. I fear this is going to be happening a lot and it fucking sucks.
Celery, parsnips, turnips, garlic, pearl onions and mushrooms already in there with broth and red wine. Will add potatoes in about 3 hours. The house smells lovely.
I think it was this thread were there was discussion of good snacks from Trader Joe's recently. I'm posting from the toilet: stay away from mango habanero beef jerky if you have IBS and probably if you don't. /PSA
My buddy fried some gator at our tailgate at UF last year. So good. I doubt I could find gator in CA.
An unbelievably tiny percentage might survive without serious government intervention, but the rest are certainly doomed without it, and not because they aren't good at what they do or failed to adjust sufficiently.
A little filet and twice baked potato action tonight. Ok, not little filet. They are about 10oz each, that is a 15-16” cast iron.
went to this new place for a take out, they make their own curds. The fries were subpar but the cheese was ridiculously squeaky. So good
Our 3 month old just spent 10 days in the hospital and my dad is “transitioning” from hospice so this was the first meal I’ve had with my wife in 2 weeks. It was therapeutic to have some cunty food with nice wine and not have to work too hard since actual restaurants aren’t in our near future.
Hope the little one is on the mend. Sorry to hear about your dad, it's a rough road and as someone who went through it this summer, the end is tough but also brings relief.
Place French fries in a bowl Put a bunch of cheese curds on top of the fries Pour hot gravy over the curds and fries If you party, place an over easy egg on top. I made the gravy with Epic jalapeño beef bone broth and some fresh thyme and sage from my garden
