What’s the earliest you would be comfortable being around someone who tested positive? CDC website says 10 days after the first symptoms if it’s a mild case which, for this scenario, let’s say it is.
10 days after symptoms start or 10 days after their positive test. OR 14 days from the date of that person's exposure if known.
It would be 13 days after their symptoms started. At first I said hell no unless they test negative. But now after doing more research I think I may be overreacting.
While it is safe to follow the periods posted by pperc, I can honestly say the I wouldn’t feel totally “comfortable”. It’s probably not fair, but I would still be hesitant.
So when is the best time to get tested after potential exposure? I was at a practice with a coach that tested positive this morning after his direct exposure last Friday. How long should I wait?
New high score in Wisconsin today, 6,141 cases. Record 7 day average at 5,139, the first time that metric was over 5,000. The 7-day average for the positivity rate is 32.20%, which is also a new high. Darn close to a record 24 hospitalization number at one shy of 247. ~22700 new cases and ~230 new deaths in Florida terms
Hospitals have been considered pretty safe at this point right? I have surgery next week at Tampa general. Should be in and out same day but going under for Anesthesia and should be in the hospital between 5-7 hours. It’s a good hospital and a fantastic surgery group but these are the top surgeons in their field in the country and people fly from everywhere to have this surgery with this group. Makes me a bit more nervous from a covid perspective.
You should be good as they aren’t treating covid patients in surgery. If a patient is positive for covid and needed surgery I assume they’d have them quarantined away from all the other surgery patients. They’ll prolly test you when you get there though
New highs: IL, NC, WI, OH, PA, MO, IN, MN, UT, AR, NV, KS, ND, AK, ME. 15 out of 35 reported states, with 15 left to report (including CA, incomplete data).
Already at 95k. Damn. Michael Osterholm (University of Minnesota's Center for Infectious Disease) was on MSNBC. Said hitting 200,000 per day is quite possible.
I’ve been in the hospital since Tuesday afternoon and I feel safer than when going to my neighborhood grocery store. They have their act together.
you should be fine, I know they are starting to open back up again...so just be as careful as you can.
Anybody got advice for this clusterfuck of a situation? We had a baby today, less than 12 hrs ago. As I’m sitting here at the hospital with him, a family member who was at our house Wednesday night, so like 36 hrs before his birth, calls and tells me they did a rapid test today and were positive. My wife and I can’t exactly quarantine away from a literal newborn for 2 weeks, so what the hell do we do? Just wear masks at all times and get psycho about hand washing and cleaning, then get tested soon? How soon should we even be tested for a Wednesday night exposure?
Yep. Utah broke the old record for daily cases (set yesterday) and deaths. The Utes football team doesn’t have enough scholarship football players to safely compete and it’s game against Arizona tomorrow has been cancelled. But the State is in good hands so our Attorney General is flying to DC to help the Trump Campaign with its election challenges.
First off congrats. Don’t worry too much about the newborn. He’ll be fine. That said, Does the family member have symptoms? If not, rapid test was inappropriate and it could be a false positive. If they do have symptoms then it’s more likely correct. The family member should get a PCR test as follow up to confirm. You and you wife should monitor yourself for symptoms. Go get a PCR test about 4-5 days after your potential exposure. If you want to be extra cautious there is nothing wrong with wearing your masks around the baby
With some people testing positive for months, I tend to prefer the time based metric. CDC does as well.
My wife and I were exposed on Tuesday and got tested yesterday. She lost her sense of taste and smell this morning. Won’t have test results until Monday or Tuesday but not much doubt now.
A girl I know that was on a ventilator with Covid in May is now back in the hospital with her second round of Covid. Surprisingly, I guess, she's still as MAGA as can be.
Ok thanks, I’ll get the PCR Monday. I’ve been wearing a mask since baby got here. The family member did have a sore throat and some congestion. She got tested just to make sure since we had baby on the way. Making it more complicated, me, my wife and my 2 yr old have all had mild colds for like a week or so now which my son brought home from daycare. My wife had to get tested for COVID prior to deliver and she’s all clear, so it appears to really be just a cold, but it makes it harder to track any new symptoms that may be due to CV.
My family all took covid tests before we got together to be extra careful as I have a three month old and my brother has a 10 month old. My mom took the Rapid and came back positive. She immediately took the PCR and it came back negative. She ended up having to wait four days from the positive rapid to make sure she had no symptoms but it appears the rapids do have false positives. She has taken another PCR since and it’s been negative as well. My suggestion would be to suggest they take the PCR test and just be careful until you can figure out if it’s a real positive and monitor your temperature until then closely.
