When I moved to Southern Cal in 2011 at the age of 21, I really enjoyed HB and never had an issue with downtown. Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead going there again.
God damnit. Fuck those guys. My hometown really does attract some assholes that give a bad name on the rest of us.
On another note I plan on going up to Big Bear for a few days starting on Saturday. Weather is unfortunately going to not be June weather.
Some interesting ones from my run yesterday: Deja Vu armed to the teeth. "Redneck Woman" Karaoke behind military guard.
Not even our artisanal toast is safe anymore https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2020-07-14/sqirl-moldy-jam-safety-allegations
Tried to go to Sqirl once and there was like an hour line in a non-peak period to get breakfast. Screw that place. Sawyer was my go-to Silver Lake /Echo Park brunch spot pre-pandemic.
TBH the artisanal toast really was spectacular. I can't wait until things are normal so I can go search Eathan Edwards spot for a secret kitchen.
Angeles National Forest above Azusa is burning. Fuck. They got jet aircraft and helicopters swooping down all over the place.
Same thing a month later, but way worse. Mt.Wilson is under an evacuation order, Angeles National Forest is completely closed. This Bobcat Fire better not hit Chilao Flats. Took this pic yesterday around sunset when it was like 110 and smoke was everywhere; really felt apocalyptic.
I was asleep and it woke me up. I immediately googled it to see if it was an earthquake but it was too soon.
Haha yeah it was pretty much over when I woke up. I needed to make sure it was really what I thought it was.
Santa Ana’s are pretty serious in some places today. There’s a fire in Irvine, Santiago Canyon, where residents had to evacuate.
I had to grab one of my trash cans out of my neighbors pick up bed this morning; one of the gnarlier Santa Anas that I can remember. Santa Clarita got a gust of 96 mph apparently.
My lease is up in a few weeks. Seeing some pretty crazy rent deals in places like Santa Monica and Hollywood for 6-8 weeks free, highly discounted rates, etc. A lot of property management companies have to be losing their shirt right now.
My old building Downtown was doing 2 bedrooms for around $2400 with free parking when the pre-covid rate was $3600 plus parking
I'm a couple blocks west of Fairfax right now, so literally right on the border of WeHo/Hollywood. Like the area, but getting the itch to try to live by the beach maybe. Seeing a few places this weekend and will see what feels like home
Just depends on where you work - I'd prefer the beach life but I'd probably pay 3k a month in ubers if I did so.
I’m out solo but I just bought a gift card at the bar. I’m out and going to drop by another place on the way home to get another gift card. Have to support small businesses.
I’ve been sitting outside at restaurants and eating. A friend just closed their restaurant for good because of Covid. As a fellow business owner I feel obligated to help support
We do takeout at our favorite local places, tip more than usual. Have yet to sit at any restaurant, outdoors or otherwise.
Which course? I basically never play these days but definitely want to start forcing myself to play more often.
For anyone in LA, I have a friend vaccinating people at the forum and said they usually have 20-30 doses at the end of the day that go in the trash if they can’t use them and they will give them to anyone who happens to be there. Shes been grabbing people off the street walking by so they don’t go to waste, so if anyone wants to try their luck, show up there or any of the other big vaccinating sites near the end of the day and you may get lucky. For forum she specifically says if before 5 walk into prairie entrance, if after 5pm security guards leave and you should be able to drive in Kareem entrance. Good luck to anyone who wants to try.
Got my dad a slot on Monday. Passing along the link I used. Not the easiest to navigate so if you have loved ones 65+ it’s worth trying to hunt for an available appointment. There’s no way my 83 year old dad could’ve worked through the site to get his spot. http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/vaccine/hcwsignup/pods/ You’ll need insurance info, etc. Best of luck.
