Poured a glass of the Sam Houston 14 to refresh my memory on it. Great nose, great on the palate, but the finish leaves a lot to be desired
Can I ask what stores he is shopping in Albany? I am in the area looking for good stores around here. Thanks!
I’ll ask him, but I doubt he’d want me to share. He makes a pretty penny doing this to supplement his income.
Understandable. I buy a bottle a quarter basically. More looking where to find a decent bottle in the area.
Not retail, but not secondary either. I also don’t ask him what he pays. I think he charged $200 for the Four Roses, $250 for the old label EC18, and $300 for the EC21.
Impossible to touch yours, but this is my haul this week. Still trying to track down a Pappy 20 and Weller Single Barrel. The EC are Total Wine 11 year single barrel store picks. If anyone wants Michter's 10 I am open to trades.
Upstate of SC isn't very good either. The TW is ok and we have one store that seems to try but they jack up their prices pretty bigly so I try to avoid supporting them.
Anybody willing to blow the cash can do what I did...and I only did that because there is no way for me to acquire stuff like the above posters in superior liquor allocation states. But yes....pretty damn happy with what I have in the cabinet rn. Probably need to get a family pic before I drink it all
I am not paying list on the premium stuff like Stagg, Lot B, and Old Fitz. Probably about half secondary, with the exception of the cheaper stuff and the Michters. I knew that today was the day that people received their allocations in NY, but it was real slim pickings at the three stores I frequent and who know me. The allocations were tiny in NY. For example, the one guy I talk to told me there were something like 2000 premium bottles of Pappy and BTAC split between 3800 stores. The Lot B I bought was from last year or the year before but at $425 I knew I could resell it if I didn’t want it, and I wasn’t finding it cheaper here. Same with GTS at $235. I paid $120 for the Michters. Same guy I bought a bunch from last year and a bunch of well priced Blantons too. His prices are all over the place though depending on the item. $800 for Birthday Bourbon, $450 for WT Masters Keep, $115 for Stagg Jr., but where he is good like Michters, he’s good. No store anywhere around here is selling Lot B for that price either anymore. Cheapest I’ll see it is $750. One of my guys was going to sell me a Yamazaki 18 for $500, but when he went to look for it, it was sold already. Sucks, but I am not a huge fan anyway.
Would be curious to know why his Michter 10Y prices are so good. That’s cheaper than NC sales it for and we are state ran.
He is a bit of an idiot. He is a grumpy old guy, who doesn’t have a big bourbon clientele, but vaguely understands that some of what he has is valuable. His Michters rye prices are $250. Like I said, he is all over the place.
I have one store like that here in DC. I can get unlimited baby Saz for $33, McKenna for $43, and ECBP for $70 - all very reasonable. But then he has his EHT SB at $100, his Bombergers at $200, and his Parker’s Heritage at $500. I truly wonder how he comes up with his prices.
Didn’t post about it but I did score 2 ORVW last week in Pine Bluff AR (middle of nowhere). They said a few liquor stores just got one bottle apiece of it as their pappy allocation. Places in Little Rock got up to Pappy 20 but people were following the truck around buying it as it was delivered
Reading the OP in the thread, I think my go to bourbon store has Peerless. Is that rare? I might go buy some, don't think I've ever had it.
I don't think we have a state bourbon raffle . Basically you have to get in good with liquor stores and when they get their allotment of Weller/Pappy/Taylor etc try to get them to get you some. I know some stores do a raffle themselves. Maybe if I told them I'd pay premium price for some of this stuff that would help. I've never offered. I've just asked them about it and they said they'd call me then never did.
Speaking of all over the place....the place that I got the EHT BP for $200 a pop just got MWND in... $290. Hilarious
I can hook you up with some Elijah Craig small batch. Let’s take this to PMs so as not to make everyone jelly.
What is reasonable secondary on William Larue Weller at this point? I have seen last year's for $600 and this year's for $1100.
That’s what I thought, although I know some may differ. I may offer him $500 and see where I go from there. I see this years GTS going for $600 and last year most places had it at $400.
I think there was either A) a relatively large volume of ‘19 GTS or B) it was not as well received as previous years. There were a lot of bottles bouncing around secondary for $300.
