Dude must have done so much blow to be known as the coke guy when he was inarguably one of the best soccer players of all time.
Bought tickets for the 94 World Cup Argentina vs Bulgaria in Dallas for the sole purpose of seeing Maradona in person. He was suspended right before the game for failing a drug test for ephedrine. Was mad until my dad explained that when you roll the dice on Maradona you either hit big or bust. RIP to one of the all time greats.
Not only that, but he scored the most infamous goal in soccer history earlier in that half. Spoiler This put them up 1-0, England tied it up, and he won the game with that. Insane.
he seems to have live life to the fullest. Not a soccer fan so I won’t pretend to understand why some are sad right now but it’s been cool to learn why so many like him. He did transcend his sport.
Watched the 1990 World Cup final in Seefeld, outside Innsbruck. Didn't really care going in who won the game, but after three old fucks in the bar/restaurant stood up and gave the Nazi salute during the German national anthem, I decided I wanted Argentina to win. Also recall Rudy Voller taking his medal from the official and putting it around his own neck during the awards ceremony, the cocky fuck Maradona was a marvelous player, big personality and bad habits. Surprised he made it this long
I think most rational people saw this was past due and aren't sad but want to celebrate a genius of the sport. For Argentina and Naples, they lost their God. Messi's career absolutely destroys his but he'll never have the love like Maradona.
maybe I worded it wrong but I understand your point. I am glad it didn’t come of as me being an asshole.
Excepted more RIPs for the GOAT than a bunch of coke references but millennials don’t respect anything so not that shocking
Not to be “that guy” but the “goal of the century” came just a couple minutes after the “hand of god” both right at the start of the 2nd half. England then scored toward the end of the match.
yep, but the guy is kind of amazing so it would not be that much of a surprise if he woke up in a day or two and just explained it by saying that he went into cardiac arrest for as long as he could and then came back to life just to try.
Guy was so beloved in Argentina they had to extend the hours of the public viewing because there were riots caused by the volume of people who wanted to go.
