Just started it tonight after looking for something new. Watched the first two episodes. It's like Girls meets Billions, anyone else watched it?
Not sure how many episodes are left in the season but apparently they’re releasing all of them on Friday
I watched the first episode and thought it was great, saw the credits and realized lena dunham created it. I thought to myself oh that's interesting doesnt seem like up her alley then immediately in episode two some dude came on another guys chest and he uttered the phrase "I want to wear you to work". Yup that makes sense.
I like it. There are some realistic elements to it with a shit load of sensationalism. Entertaining nonetheless.
I feel like they’re trying for character development but I’m still not sure what everyone’s motives are. What was Yasmin’s boss talking to her about toward the end?
Finished it tonight. This is about where I am on it. There is some realism but ultimately grossly exaggerated and sensationalized. The second half of the finale and Harper’s character were particularly ridiculous. it was entertaining for sure but maybe the most perverted show I’ve ever watched. I thought the acting was really good, which is cool because so many people in this show were new faces for me
I enjoyed the premier and the new arcs for all the characters. Grads now entrenched in the biz but emotionally/spiritually lost, Eric feeling the pressure from the new school, COVID re-entry. Private Wealth lady should be a good add. Will continue to watch I'll miss Clement though, he had some of the best lines ...
Yeah I have no idea why Yasmin and Harper are mad at each other outside of her blowing up their threesome. Also I hope we don’t get beta Rob all season, maybe that last phone call will snap him out of it
Harper shivved Daria in the back to bring back Eric, which led to her ousting, right as Yasmin was talking to her about switching teams. I had forgotten just about everything before doing a rewatch last month.
also some pent up resentment re: Robert and who might be hooking up with who. and some nasty words exchanged in the finale IIRC ...
This. Also Yasmin has definitely been at least semi-jealous of Harper's almost immediate success and respect she's gotten while Yasmin spent most of her internship getting coffee and lunch for the team.
Yea really don’t get this either, ex is the only obvious one, no one else makes sense. The reply to from him seems to cement it’s the ex. show is great though, not sure how I just found out about it last weekend.
It’s her ex from season one, she saw he had a new girl and it trigged an anxiety attack. They are really playing the Covid lockdown anxiety storyline with her. We saw shades of it in season one but now it’s an issue. Eric has noticed it too but Harper refuses to acknowledge it.
Are we supposed to hate Robert or love him because he’s easily my favorite character. I think you were supposed to be jealous of him early in season 1 but goddamn the kid just doesn’t miss. Gets a handjob from the billionaire and finishes with a “Mommy?”
I thInk many of the characters are composites of some of the stereotypical types of people found at a firm like Pierpont - Yasmin is the type whose spot is secured at the firm not because of her talent but rather because of her family’s wealth -Robert is the type who isn’t very bright but gets by because of other qualities. He usually is able to get by because of his looks or simply because clients find him entertaining and like socializing with him -Harper is the one who is able to get by because of some talent but also because of a lack of ethics . She will do anything and break any rule to get ahead wirehouse type firms are full of these three types
Very happy to see Eric get fucked over did anyone else have trouble hearing some of the dialogue this episode?
The song at the end is a nice ode to Wall Street, another story of a mentee taking down their mentor. Well placed with the theme of this episode. Bloom getting Felim with the pellets was pretty funny.
i thought the person Harper is tracking on IG is her estranged brother? she said something on the last ep about him being in Berlin possibly ...
did Eric cheat or was that a dream sequence maybe? also, i have a lot of respect for the actors on this show and the gratitous sex scenes. though not a "money shot," Danny & Harper's scene is about the closest thing to a porn shoot HBO has attempted
i've always been pro-Eric (both from an entertainment value standpoint, as well as the character). are others not a fan of his? in this world he's a person i think i would respect, look up to, want to stay loyal to. the scene last season where he covered the botched trade by Harper, and talks about his former manager ("that little chink is a born salesman") solidified to me that he really cares about the people on his team. as much as you can at least for this type of organization. either way though, Ken Leung is fucking killing it. i'd like to see him in more HBO stuff ...
Just started episode 5 season 1, so it’s early. But Yasmin is such a whore and I am so so so so attracted to it.
I would add to your points the safety of Yasmin’s upbringing now being damaged/corrupted Rob being unfulfilled in basically all aspects of this sort of career and life And Harper being willing to take risks in certain areas because she doesn’t know any better not having grown up of privilege.
