Robertson didn't get the ball. He kicked Welbeck's foot. It was in the 18-yard box. That's a penalty.
I don't know why pool fans are so livid, you go top of the table with even 1 point. Savor your #1 team.
That’s a penalty. Only thing Liverpool fans could be mad at is that when Bruno kicks someone in the box, the penalty gets overturned. this was an absolutely bizarre game but I’ll take it. Brighton deserve some points after outplaying chelsea and United and losing both games. I’m surprised they got the points without lamptey though.
I've said it a thousand times but the problem isn't VAR, it's that a sport with two goals a game gives one for free and it's usually not even on a scoring opportunity
Honestly any points we get with this midfield and defense is good for us.. It sucks the way the game went though
Thinking back to last season, you've escaped injuries for the most part. Your front three in particular has been pretty healthy, I can only remember Allison missing significant time, maybe 8 weeks? Spurs just last year missed Hugo for months, Kane for months, Son for months, Sissoko for months, Ben Davies... without the coronavirus shutting things down, we would have ended up in 10th probably. It'll be okay, you're still doing great.
gomez, lovren, and Matip were a carousel of injuries last year. Keita was hurt all year, shaqiri was hurt all year, Henderson missed 8 league games with injury.
Agree. We have been extremely lucky the last 2 years and it seems to be catching up with us this year. I’m more upset about VAR and not being able to watch as many games because of Peacock/whatever the hell CL games are on. Say what you want about the decisions VAR makes... but it completely ruins the watching experience as a viewer perspective. It’s just not as fun anymore
my problem is no ref gives that as a penalty in real time, including the ref that was looking directly at the play
Yeah, he's the one I remember. Who gives a fuck about Shaqiri though, that's like if I included injuries to Sessegnon or something.
The front three have been remarkably durable, and the back 4 has been able to overcome the fact that it’s a revolving door for who starts next to VVD at CB. After a second to breathe, Welbeck got the ball, Robbo got Welbeck, and it was in the box. I suppose I’d want it in reverse.
And yeah we started Gini at false 9 at the Camp Nou in a UCL semi two years ago and Origi and Shaqiri up front in the reverse fixture. We’ve just had VVD and the front three to basically carry the team the last two years.
Can't agree enough wrt VAR and how it's being applied. There is just no consistency. The cunt hair offside calls have to stop. It is impossible to tell a lot of times and its so subjective when they decide to freeze the frame.
the mane offside was called in about 25 seconds. That’s what VAR should check. If you have to start drawing lines and guessing the way someone’s body is leaning then get the fuck out of here
same thing with handball calls. When they slow it down, totally takes context out of the natural position of someone’s arms and how quickly the ball gets on them
Burnley lollygagging about, sloppy passes turned over in your own half, jogging back on defense... almost as if they forgot City is elite just because of their table position.
No, it’s not as fun to score a goal and immediately worry about VAR taking it away. 90% of soccer is boring to watch. The best part about the watching experience is when you finally score and can celebrate it. That’s ruined now. Win or lose it’s not as fun to watch the game anymore
The handball stuff is almost a different conversation because so much of it has to do with how they’re interpreted, not VAR per se (though obviously more get looked at w/ VAR). Today’s call WAS a penalty. The argument is whether we should be looking at those types of things (same w/ offsides).
I don't think it's being reactionary, just forgetful. It *also* sucked when obvious calls were missed in a sport with two goals a game. There's no getting around how easy it is for a soccer game to be tainted by a referee
I mean, I guess. I just don’t think these decisions are making the sport *less fun* I just think because the call went against his team this time he’s upset about it, and rightfully so. Like the tweet a few posts ago said, if that’s Manè getting fouled, he’s not posting like this
I think many people would agree and have been saying the same long before the Liverpool/Brighton game. I will not argue with you that there is still fun parts to the game but you are just being a hater right not if you can’t admit that it’s simply just not as fun anymore.
Exactly. I’m hopeful that if they iron out the kinks in VAR/the rules, i.e. change the handball rule and set a time limit for the offside reviews, it will hopefully reduce a lot of the complaining.
no, it's way less fun. any time a 90' controversy happens and there's an unjustified equalizer/winner it makes me feel deflated (and I don't have a team). It used to be when dives were rewarded or obvious missed offsides happen. Now it's sketchy VAR calls and "handballs"
To each their own. I think the sport is still plenty of fun to follow. Quick is just letting today’s result make it worse than it really is
