When Son was called offside by a cunt hair all the way up by midfield 3 passes before the ball went into the net against Leicester last season a part of me died.
That’s simply not true. I didn’t have the same feeling last year after a goal that I did years before VAR.
it's obviously fun, we're all here. but watching that game as a neutral just makes you sigh. I probably watch for different reasons than you though
I 100% think your neutrality allows you to view it all differently than us. I truly do understand the sentiment. VAR sucks more than it doesn’t, I just refuse to agree that it’s made it not fun or “ruined” it. College football has been ruined by replay more than soccer
Also, City have been involved in some heartbreaking (and correct) late VAR decisions. It sucked but it’s still just as fun
I would rather the right decision is made every time, I don't want anyone to be robbed/gifted because the human ref couldn't/didn't see. I would propose a few things: install the BEST GODDAMN cameras money can buy. If someone is offside, I want to be able to tell down to the mm, none of this blurry ambiguous nonsense. And why can't they have AI-controlled sideline/perpendicular cameras like a fuckin greyhound track or whatever? Make it track the furthest back defender, this helps instead of having the trigonometry of human-place lines.
If you don’t think we don’t have reason to be pissed off after this game and the ev game, I don’t know what to tell you.
Ive said you have reason to be upset, I just disagree with the notion that the sport isn’t *as* fun anymore
This is no excuse but this is a tough assignment for his first PL start. That should have been an elementary save though.
Honestly I would be way less annoyed by VAR if it stopped handing United undeserved points. United fans love VAR. Says all you need to know.
The marginal offside stuff is a much bigger problem for the enjoyment of the game than calls like today or the handball issues. Chalking goals off for armpits being off is and always has been silly. If you’re going to err, err on the side of more goals.
Not being able to celebrate goals stinks but offsides goals usually are clear cut. The way var is drawing lines is ridiculous and not consistent. Why wasn’t the line drawn from the defenders hip or shoulder for salah’s disallowed goal? The defender was leaning forward. The lack of consistency is what’s killing it for me. Yes there’s contact by Robbo on welbeck but completely away from the play and innocuous. Salah and mane get more contact than that every game and not called.
the idea that you can’t celebrate goals because it’s going to be reviewed is the comp. how about if they reviewed every pass to see if there was PI, maybe that’s the better comp
everyone knows VAR has major issues but let’s be honest that’s not what this Lividpool melty is really about.
Honest question, how does a squad like Liverpool have zero non teenage depth? The back line is more what I’m speaking on
They did with Lovren, what we did last season with Kompany; let him leave without a replacement. Fabinho was Fernandinho but then he got hurt too
We were short one CB when we sold lovren and didn’t buy a replacement which was clearly a mistake. Two knee injuries to your starting CBs would drastically affect any team. TBH it hasn’t really affected us yet as we haven’t been conceding goals. The lack of midfielders have been hurting us more.
I was just thinking about the post earlier about teenagers on the back line, and it just surprised me considering the money spent in last 5 years or so
VVD played pretty much every minute for 3 seasons with no injury until Pickford. I get why the club thought they could get by without buying there with fabinho covering. Just really bad luck.
Hard disagree. Decisions about what is or isn’t offsides shouldn’t be arbitrary. There needs to be a set rule that can be enforced equally and objectively. VAR has given us that and the offsides decisions are the one area where VAR has consistently shined.
