Just cracked open my Old Fitz 13 year for the first time. Delicious, very excited to see what air does to this one.
I don’t think cost is the issue here, it’s finding a barrel anyone wants with a seller that’s willing to sell to us. The second part seems to be the biggest hurdle.
I definitely went back and liked that with express intentions to curry favor with the bourbon Gods of this thread.
I feel like the only thing missing from Lipp’s friends place is an actual guitar played by Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan
Just had a thought, someone who people trusts that is near KY could go grab a barrel of Blantons for the group. I had a buddy who went and did this earlier this year. Him and 3 friends met up there, picked a barrel, and should be getting the bottles soon.
Outside of Earn_Marks , I still think the best way to do this is for someone to arrange a pick with their local liquor store. They’ve probably got the relationships and structure in place to get this done somewhat easily.
Stopped by City Liquor and Holmes. City wanted 60 for EHTSB. Grabbed a store pick of BT. Fuck Holmes though. They had Stagg, THH, and most of the Pappies. All secondary. WFP 300 and W12 250
cheddarisbetter have you ever been to The Stir? We are going there to eat tonight and they supposedly have a good bourbon selection
You guys think it's worth hunting for a bottle of Stagg Jr batch 14 or just wait for the new batch? I have 2 bottles of batch 13 already
I've never found anything allocated at Holme's, just a random bottle that isn't available in Chattanooga
Got this today in a raffle in KC. Feeling super lucky! Also am in for a TMBarrel Pick! And that Brenne Estate Cask sounds amazing, gonna be looking for that one now. Sorry I’ve been MIA in this thread for like a week and I have a lot to catch up on!
Drinking the CoK 12.3 tonight. First time drinking since I cracked it in March. It is so much better, and really good.
The 14 year? I'm honestly kind of excited, never had an Old Fitz decanter, but i know the different variations get mixed reviews. Some seem to be highly thought of, and others are kind of meh from what I've seen
I have liked all of them. I had the 13 last night, and I own the 11 also. I have tasted the 9, 14, and 15. I like them all.
made these cocktails for the holiday and they are wonderful autumn in new england (2 drinks) 2 - 4 fresh sage leaves, plus small sage sprig for garnishing ¼ ounce maple syrup 2 ounces bourbon 1 ounce apple cider ¼ ounce cider vinegar Add sage leaves and syrup to base of cocktail shaker and muddle until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add bourbon, apple cider, and vinegar, then fill shaker with ice. Shake mixture until just combined and chilled, about 5 seconds. Double-strain cocktail into chilled old-fashioned glass half-filled with ice or containing single large ice cube. Garnish with sage sprig and serve.
