In my experience, two is bad because they don't understand what's going on and can't really communicate. Three is bad because they can understand what's going on and can communicate but decide to be assholes about it.
There are exceptions, but in my opinion, raising kids gets easier every year. I'm sure that changes with teenagers, but I think it rings pretty true with toddlers and babies.
So my son is fed breast milk my wife pumps exclusively and Friday he woke up and didn't poop for the first time in months as a four month old. Saturday it was the same story, no poop, and everything we read said it happens sometimes. Yesterday we start getting worried he has a blockage. Again, everything we read says is normal and not to worry, but to call the pediatrician. The caveat is he is gassy af. I mean he was just ripping them all weekend, and they were horrible. It was like he drank draft beer for 3 days straight. We made an appointment with the pediatrician for today and yesterday I went to Walgreens and got some of the Mothers Bliss for constipation. We gave him a half a serving last night and while I was feeding him this morning he managed to poop out the three days worth of poop. We needed new pajamas at that point and it was hell to clean up. But he is happy as a clam and never really was bothered by it at all. Pediatrician said we didn't need to come in as it resolved itself. /coolstarybro
Once when I was traveling my wife called because my son was having severe stomach pains. She took him to a 24/7 urgent care and they told her to take him to the ER because they thought it was appendicitis. Dropped out of a dinner, didn’t even go get my shit at the hotel and went straight to the airport to fly home. Wasn’t a chance in hell he was gonna have surgery without me doing everything I could to get there. Was on a plane within an hour and half of the call heading home. Landed at Ohare and got the voicemail it was just constipation when they got to the ER and he finally got the X-ray done.
Levi has gone as many as 4.5 days and Pedi says it is normal. When he starts trying solids, get ready for a potential log jam and for your boy to be red-faced af trying to pinch one off.
My son did that at four months too. He also is only breast fed so normally he had no issues. But we went up to Lake Michigan for my brother's small wedding in June and due to COVID this was the most people he had ever been around and that combined with staying in a foreign place for the first time resulted in him not pooping all 4 days we were up there and the first day we got back. So our pediatrician had us give him a little apple juice and then the next day told us to take a q tip and cover it with Petroleum jelly and insert it up him. Sure enough all five days came flowing out immediately.
I think Todd Bonzales warned me about the same thing about when we start introducing proteins and solid foods. Said be prepared. Hilarious thing is he was just happy as can be, never really had any issues, and just grunted it all out this morning.
I think you nailed it. Due to Covid we hadn’t really had anyone see him. Thursday was the first day we had a group and it was just my in laws as we quarantine with them as my mother in law comes over during the week to watch him when we are working. This was the first time at their house and with the added people I think what you described is exactly what happened.
I'm no doctor but on this one Scrubs episode they said if you can fart there's usually not a blockage. 1/3 prolapsed one time she strained so hard. My parents have lived next door to a pediatrician for 30 years and have ever only called them 3 times and this was one of them.
Kid shit in the tub last night. Was doing her night time shower and she took a squat. When she stood up there were two round turds in the little grates of the mat. Thanks kid.
Distance learning started today. I had meetings most of the day so I could only check in. The kindergartner was a challenge but manageable. The 2 year old ate her entire chocolate advent calendar, had a glitter accident, a sharpie accident, a marker down the shirt accident, a frosting accident and tears were shed by everybody in the house other than myself.
my son starts two weeks of virtual schooling tomorrow. After a 6 day break his teachers decided tonight they would flood us with nearly a dozen emails on what we need to for class and what the schedule will look like. Tomorrow is going to be a shit show... I’m hoping to just survive.
Just now reading about the Bright family in Houston who had their kids taken by CPS after their 5 month old fell and cracked his skull. Doctors found another hairline fracture, said it was consistent with abuse, and that basically sealed their fate. Much more to the story and they got their kids back but god damn the whole thing is very rage inducing. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/their-baby-s-fall-was-confused-child-abuse-then-cps-n1076291
I pray for each of you moving to virtual with small children. Lil Man is in 8th grade and hasn’t been in school since last March, as our district never went back this fall. It’s been smooth here outside of making honors math a little tougher due to virtual but everyone that has littles second grade and under says that it is really hard. I hope they can get these small ones back into school because the studies showing what the lack of in person schooling will impact the under 11 set is pretty sad if they stay out extended times.
He’s been in school all year and they haven’t had a case. But with only 7 days of school before a winter break they decided to give Virtual school a test run for those 7 days instead of coming back into school. So far so good this morning. I haven’t screwed anything up and his baby sister is still sleeping so no distraction.
baby SISTER... lol my wife is also the baby sitter but she’s busy doing her part time job of being a nurse.
No, I’ve got family from Schaumburg to Fox Lake. I used to live in Richmond for a short time. My mom was born in Chicago and my dad went from Italy to NY to Chicago and eventually settled where I currently live in Pennsylvania
The doctor is inducing our baby girl on Thursday. I’m so excited. I know my son is ready to be a big brother.
In case you don’t know what to expect, we were told 24-72 hour process for induction. We showed up expecting it would be much quicker.
Gracious. They said she’d be induced that morning and the baby should be here by lunch with how low she is.
Virtual learning has been ok with a 5 year old, but I do have to stop my work (full-time WFH) once a week to play the role of principal. Had to manage a meltdown yesterday because the class did not approve the name she came up with for the elf in the story they were writing. She was pissed. Bless anyone else doing this with small kids.
Getting ready to head to the hospital for induction day. I have a beautiful step son but I feel like today is going to be a whirlwind of emotions. Just five years ago I was a homeless alcoholic having lost my first family. I was in and out of rehabs and jails and about as far down a spiral a person can to. I found AA and a strong sense of faith and started putting one foot in front of the other. With humility and an ultimate goal of putting others before myself have come to a point I never dreamt possible. Today in the luckiest man alive. I wouldn’t trade the hell I went through for the blessings God has given me. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
It was a success. He will have a few days in the hospital for recovery but he is already breathing better.
I’m a casual gamer so absolutely worth it for me. If you’re someone who buys a lot of new releases it may not be but just depends on how much/what you play.
Goosebumps, man. Been following you a lot in this thread and I'm really happy for you. Praying today goes well.
Do you actually download and install each game you want to play? Or is it like some sort of cloud-based thing? How is the performance on a mid-level Windows 10 laptop like an i5? I may use it too but my kids really like Minecraft and I see Minecraft Dungeons on there.
I’ve got it for Xbox so can’t speak to all of that but would bet you would be downloading and installing each game. SSD or HDD? If ssd for sure be good. They should have an offer for 1 month for $1 at least xbox did so you could give it a trial run.
So I took my beard down to 1.5” from about 10-12” tonight. Levi is too damn strong with good use of his hands. I will start growing it back at whatever age he realizes not to try and rip dads face and neck off.
