My kids' schools are talking about going back to hybrid in person/remote learning starting January 12. With schools having been in session for 3-4 months now, are there any comprehensive studies on covid spread and school openings?
As a young-ish person, punting on most of a year (I have still gone and done things but they have been reigned in a bit) was a tough ask but manageable. The toughest part for me was not getting to see my family as much. My parents are starting to get up there in age and missing out on an entire year would have been gut-wrenching as I know they don't have a ton of years left. Thankfully we are all pretty smart about things so I have made sure to see them a couple times and will see them again over Christmas. It might not be the smartest decision but I think my years would be limited if I told my Mom that I was skipping the Christmas season with the family as she would likely kill me.
Of my many flaws, you'll never catch me wearing earbuds or wires that could be confused for pearl earrings.
I have experience in this space, and I am optimistic that the data we are seeing counters this claim. The reality may be completely different, however, we are seeing commercial real estate being hit harder than the residential. A real estate advocacy group has been tracking rental payments and is seeing a 2% decrease in rent payment nationwide. 2% is a large number, but most of the residential owners I have worked with are doing their best to accommodate individuals or families impacted by Covid. (Of course there are exceptions to this and overall shitty owners as well). For the month of November, 90.3% of households have paid either partial or full rent. This is a 1.6% reduction compared to November 2019. I think a good solution would be to provide property owners a way to get a subsidized amount in the event a resident can't pay. This can be managed similar to verifying low income households and would put the onus on the owner to collect the subsidy and allow the resident to petition the owner to do the work on their behalf if they are effected by a reduction in earning capacity. Don't force already impacted families to do the work to get their rent paid when in a lot of cases this is due to government restrictions. They aren't prepared for that, and in a lot of cases, owner or operators of residential properties are prepared for this.
promoting safety while also rubbing it in our faces that they get to jump the line getting the vaccine
posted about it in the election thread because i had the same thought no he hasnt posted since he finally dropped the mask about thinking its funny for people to die from not having health insurance a true coward
I have agreed to go on camera for tmb getting first available vaccine (while eating candy corn naked)
you and i are immune tho so we'll really be rubbing it in everyone's face about jumping the line by taking a vaccine we don't even need
They all said they’d wait. Specifically obama said he would wait until it is available for those at low risk Clinton as well, although he is old
ok good bill is the only one i could see the argument for with his health and age but that is good also it is easy to forget how young bill was as president. he is 2 months younger than trump which is crazy
All 3 should get it as early as possible to prove that it’s safe. 3 people is such a small amount. The free press for the vaccine and trying to combat vaccine misinformation is worth that.
I'm sure this has been said before, but what a sad state of affairs we're in, when ex presidents have to be filmed getting a vaccine to prove to millions of people that its not some autism causing, mind controlling injection.
Yeah, but let's see how much better off the billionaires in those countries are. Gotta take the good with the bad
He’s right to ask but I think that ship has sailed with the rhetoric on the right and the mixed messaging from the government so far
my best friend’s 2 year old daughter just tested positive. says she’s got a fever and runny nose and is sluggish. no one else has symptoms. pretty terrifying
Maybe someone like Fauci doing a version of an oval office primetime speech explaining how they're effective would help but probably minimally if anything.
Right. Fauci was written off long ago. I’m not sure there’s anything to be done to convince those who aren’t already convinced that certain mitigation techniques work.
Yeah I get that, anything that can be done to convince any number of those idiots that covid isn't going away after the election or whatever would help. It's a depressing reality.
In our defense, it did not all happen in 24 hours. This is the prize for 10 months of escalating ignorance and stupidity. They could have worded it better.
Deathsantis did a lot of fucked up shit but one of the most glaring was a full public health blackout on discussing anything covid from later September through Election Day. Just pretending like the pandemic went away to help trump.
California stay at home orders are going to be issued in the next 48 hrs. State is going to be broken into 5 sections. Three week minimum for the order. Hospital ICU occupancy in each sector must drop below 15% in order for the order to be lifted. Some schools will be able to stay open by waiver, restaurants can do takeout and delivery. Critical jobs will also be excepted. No mixing of people from different households. Sucks but totally necessary given the rapid spread we’re seeing.
