Burn everything down. I wonder what the long term effects of this are? I Imagine pain, apathy, and even “wtf do I need govt now for” as a generation turns into libertarians.
Honestly, fuck a stimulus check. The unemployed need that cash. Steal the two GA senate seats and then ram through stimulus in February.
Oh for sure, I just think that it's dumb af to blanket $1200 to people who are making more than enough currently. No reason for someone making six figures to get the same amount as someone who doesn't know where they are going to sleep tonight.
No means testing, it slows things down and people who didn't need it last time (that weren't already filthy rich) helped inject it right back in the economy. I bought several big gift cards from a bar and local restaurants.
Yeah I get that aspect. When the gov't injects money during economic downturns, every $1 creates something like $10 in GDP growth. It just fucking kills me to see people who are in dire need of unemployment continually wait for checks because the system is out of cash. I have one friend who is a single mother of 4 who is living on $150 a week from her brother. Shit is fucking sad man. I sent her some $
"we don't have enough money for the poor people after we give the rich ppl more money" Fucking wild. And they haven't even been able to lend out all the initial PPP loans, right?
the unemployed do. Many of the unemployed people in this country do not qualify for unemployment. Those are the ones that generally need it the most
I'd rank him 14th after GHWB got to be president for the glorious time we thought Reagan might die. That probably still counts as 13 since he went on to be POTUS, but I like to reminisce about Reagan getting shot.
I think there's a decent chance the gop Senate would've turned it down but that would've put all of them on the defensive going into the election.
What about the people that got their hours cut in half (and whose healthcare is tied to their job, great system we have here) who dont qualify for unemployment. They could be making less than those unemployed. Dems have to operate under the assumption that they will lose the two Senate seats.
So two days after deposing Ivanka they filed suit? That seems fast. wes tegg bwi2 Thoughts on this case?
Ronald Reagan's "I have a Dream" in pictorial form thank god we have free college tuition, though it obviously like everything else in society disparately favors those with means. Basically only think blocking Conservatism's aim of having an uneducated populace here.
I get it and I don't mean to derail the thread. To boil it down, I'm just pissed that this pandemic is hurting the poorest and most vulnerable of us so much more than the wealthier and there isn't really shit being done about it... or even being reconized. Some people need so much help right now and we are just watching them slowly fall through the cracks. Fuckin America for ya
I agree with that, but what you’re proposing delays and complicates your mission more than it already is. Cut everyone a check. For some it will help pay rent or bills. For others it can be spent to help keep businesses afloat and people employed. For others it can be put away and help later. But means testing and putting restrictions on income levels/employment statuses would do more harm than good.
I know we're just conditioned to accept it, but America's dealing with this pandemic is utter fucking insanity. We print money -- like, it' s not fucking real, we just print whatever we want, the whole concept is illusory bullshit -- and we're giving BILLIONS to the top 1%. And that's not even hyperbole!!! Billions (trillions?) in stimulus and tax cuts to companies, and $1,200 (TOTAL) to the lower-to-middle class. TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. 14M have lost health insurance. Service industry workers are fucked. Like 50% of the US is behind on their housing payment. And it's not even shrouded in mystery, it's just "fuck yea we're doing it, the fuck you gonna do about it?" This is objectively, verifiably insane evil shit that will be studied for years. A true measure of the strength of a society is how it treats its most unfortunate citizens (or something like that) -- man we suck. I dunno I'm really high but just laughing and shaking my head and angry and flabbergasted
had a similar conversation tonight with some folks about how insanity inducing the whole pandemic response has been including with physicians who can feel the ptsd setting in from treating covid patients while all this is happening, whether it's talking to denialist patients with MAGA hats that they're probably dying or their family members who don't understand what's happening or any other formulation, we're inflicting trauma on our society beyond even just healthcare workers that will last a generation
You know what else is insane? That's only the economic part of it. There's also the whole science/containment element (and really, basic empathy for your fellow human) and we're just like "nah."
Was flipping through and saw an exchange between Jake Tapper and Don Lemon where Jake was set up outside the White House, while Lemon’s show is getting ready to start. Lemon asks Jake if there is music playing behind him, and Jake says protestors are outside the White House blaring profanity laced rap music. Wonder how many racist comments are being uttered in the White House tonight?
