He recognizes that he is pissing money away. He is addicted to hunting for cars. It is insane. No matter what anyone tells him, he's like a drug addict. He almost always rotates through the same somewhat new vehicles too: Wrangler, Camaro, Challenger.
Bought my Mazda 6 and Explorer after they had been service loaners. Both cars had a little over 3000 miles on them. Got a $41k limited explorer for $33k and my Mazda for $22k from a $29k sticker new. You can get really good deals on service loaners because the dealerships use them to play the system and register the same car for multiple sales so they are willing to be more aggressive with prices.
Talk me out of buying this. I own a minivan, want a second car just for having another car getting around town, and it would be cool to have a Porsche. I want a cool car that doesn't cost a lot (think of the Top Gear challenges for those that are familiar, I'm willing to accept probable boogers and semen spread throughout) https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/897f99ab-307b-4810-a3f8-e62b08b8dab2/
Your minivan is probably cooler with better features. Your first mechanic bill will probably cost more than what you’re buying it for.
Minivans are the shit, you should drive that with pride. Still pissed my wife decided she wanted a Pilot over an Odyssey.
Dr. Richard Cranium if you want a cool older car, get an older Jeep Wrangler. That's one of the few cars that can be 20 years and still be cool.
My dad has I think a 2006 Cayenne. I wouldn’t buy that car. The air conditioning doesn’t work great and it’s just a 15 year old car regardless of the miles on it. There was an engine issue in that era of Cayenne one you hit 80,000 miles or so. My dads had the engine replaced before he bought it.
Just got this 2021 Prius after they gave me 12k for a 2019 Corolla I paid 16k for that had been flooded and had 40k miles. Really happy to have a spaceship now
Considering upgrading from my 20 year old beater which has rust issues that causes leaking in the trunk and I wouldn't be surprised if the transmission died within the next year based on the current problems it has. Also one door doesn't stay open. The interior is falling apart. I've continued driving it because it only has 65k miles and I don't drive much - well, trips and stuff I use gf's car. So it is time. I have $8k saved in new car fund to go towards a down payment or whatever. I'd like a significant upgrade. The *only* thing I think I really want is a 3rd row, ability to fit 6 or more people in car. I have 2 kids and a bunch of nieces nearby and transportation as the kids get older and we want to do daytrips and vacations and such is hard with 4-5 seater vehicles. I don't think I have any other requirements. Not sure if going with NEW, USED, BUY, or LEASE. All options are open. - As far as NEW - any of ya'll drive one of these? - I'm not opposed to a damn minivan I will dad-mobile that thing up. - I'm intrigued by the Toyota Sienna hybrid 36 MPG. - I have a lot of research to do as to best ways to go about buying a car, I've only done it twice in my life and the last time was over 10 years ago. https://www.motortrend.com/style/suv/ Best 3-Row SUVs #1 2021 Kia Telluride MPG 20/26 MSRP $32,190 - $44,390 #2 2021 Subaru Ascent MPG 21/27 MSRP $32,295 - $45,445 #3 2021 Hyundai Palisade MPG 19/26 MSRP $32,675 - $47,900 #4 Honda Pilot MPG 20/27 MSRP $32,550 - $50,220 https://www.motortrend.com/style/van/ Best Minivans(6) #1 2021 Honda Odyssey MPG 19/28 MSRP $31,790 - $47,820 #2 2021 Toyota Sienna MPG 36/36 MSRP $34,460 - $50,460
Honda Odyssey. I don’t own one, I own a Pilot as I mentioned above but I drive an Odyssey often. I love them.
I would just say that you don't generally get good lease rates until you get into the luxury makers. Once you figure out what you want, I like to use the edmonds buying and leasing forums to get a sense of what people are paying nationally.
As someone who owns both I feel like you can’t go wrong with either. Van has way more capacity when taking a trip if that’s something you are looking for.
The first generation 2006-2007 Cayman S is incredibly fun and starting to tick up in price. 300hp and 3,000lbs. In the $20-25k range, it’s at the bottom of its depreciation curve. As for a really “fun” car that’s less expensive than that, the answer is always a 1990-1997 Mazda Miata.
I could really get behind them EV-ing replicas of older cars. I'd drive the shit out of an electric engine in a 1985 Cadillac Eldorado.
Not to kink shame but that is a very specific fetish. Also, having had an 80's Caddy with that shit engine, I'd 100% approve.
electric vehicles mean no more fuel efficiency standards which means cars are gonna start looking weird again
The $42,500 starting price puts it out of my reach but I also really dislike the interior. For what I do to my cars, I need to keep the price somewhat reasonable. I'm currently driving a 2010 Kia that I bought for $3500 4 years ago. I've put on 90k miles in 4 years and with it having 211k total, I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette every time I drive to work. I'm looking really hard at the Mazda 3 Hatchback. Smaller car, decent on fuel, and tons of driving aids.
