Beat writers who clearly have an axe to grind but then pretend they don’t when called out on it deserve everything coming to them. See also - Larry Brooks
I still struggle if a guy like Brooks is more embarrassing than a guy like Mirtle. Opposite ends of the spectrum, but both are cringeworthy.
I don’t even think Boston fans disagree with this. I’d rather listen to the average bruins fan plucked out of south Boston than listen to his commentary on a game.
I almost never have to listen to him but he is so insufferable. « you touch our goalie this is what happens, don’t poke the bear » he talks like he is a tough guy
Spent two hours this morning shovelling the ODR. Snow got heavier as it warmed up so buddy showed up with the snowblower.
It kind of sucks that there’s an expectation that if you go first overall you need to play in the NHL the next year. He just wasn’t ready. Didn’t have the strength necessary and the jump from USHL competition straight to the NHL was too much. Not sure anyone has ever faced that drastic of an immediate jump in competition before.
First player ever to jump straight from the us dev team. Now he supposedly added 15 pounds in the long offseason and has been buzzing out there. His matchups will get easier once Hischier gets back too, i’m optimistic!
totally agree, he was the top talent from his draft but he was not ready. One year in the ncaa would’ve been better for him. But he seems alright now so maybe it was the best move. It was a little risky though.
Ilya Sorokin likely to make NHL debut tonight. Varlamov took a puck up near the clavicle in warmups, collapsed in a heap, and then left the ice. Final lineups still not out.
Evander Kane about to call his bankruptcy lawyer and have a league fine added onto his list of creditors.
When I was not in a pool I used to hate people who would go on a message board to talk about their stupid pool. But now that I am a proud owner things are different and you will want to hear about how I drafted Yamamoto very late and it was a very wise decision
Does anyone have any experience with yonder.tv? I was thinking of doing that and the NHL.tv sub month to month until YTTV and the RSN’s get their shit figured out.
If only enjj didnt block me I could’ve got the free fantasy advice that Timmy Stoots would be a contributor.
From what I gather LA was higher at first on Stutzle but after months of going over tape they changed their evaluation and decided to go with Byfield. Sens fans would have been happy either way but obviously are thrilled with the German. One of his biggest attributes is he’s a self starter.
Anybody else love this schedule? Obviously not as extreme in the future but for example eastern teams playing each other more instead of going on long west coast trips would be so much better. It's almost like clusters of mini playoff series which brings entertaining hockey. The Islanders don't need to play Calgary.
I think they stick with something like this. I can't imagine how much money they're saving. The Blackhawks have knocked out 15% of their road games with one RT flight
I like it but I also think it sucks I wont get to see my team play against other fun players and superstars.
Curious to see how games go as we get deeper into the season after you've seen the same team 4 or 5 times in a short time span if there's more animosity between teams. Playoffs could be really chippy as well. I'm not sure how feasible it will be once arenas have concerts and other events going on again. I do think the NHL should be smarter about travel if possible going forward. It makes no sense sometimes that a team coming to Tampa to play the Lightning doesn't knock out the trip to Sunrise as well.
I like the concept in general but I also think each team should play each team at least once per season
I don’t see why they should play each other at least once. This is not a big deal to me. It could be interesting if they would make it like the mlb. You have a series against a team during the regular season. I would prefer a 3-4 game series against Anaheim every few years than seeing them every year on a random Tuesday night. not sure how feasible that would be but it could be fun
sens deserve credit for selecting him and tkachuk but neither of those guys should have been available. Sens have some nice pieces but the owner will find a way to fuck it up.
You could have teams play every other year in different conferences and every 4 years both home and away. 16 teams in the west so an east team does a 4 game west road trip each year. They play another 4 at home. And then you switch it up. In an 82 game season that leaves 74 games inside the conference. I like the idea of making little series within the season. The NHL needs differentiators. I think this could be a very good way to make the NHL more enjoyable. You give the traditional teams more rivalry games and give the less traditional teams more opportunities to create rivalries.
