That's the plan, or should be. We are in need of a number 9. Really we need a true out and out striker as Lowe and Ayew are already a bit similar in play to Morris but I'm thinking they expect to bring him in to play up top and let Lowe slide over to his natural position. Btw off topic but you're not getting Woodman back. That man is now all Swansea through and through.
josh starting as a second striker with selke as the main striker in a 532 vs augsburg jab starts vs leipzig with tyler on the bench
Cooper basically confirmed that Morris is on the way to Swansea in his post game tonight. Looks like the lad gets his chance.
Sorry to spam the thread but paperwork signed and terms agreed to for Jordan Morris. Subject to clearance he arrives in SA1 next week. Oh dear God please let Morris succeed like crazy because our club is already as anti american as it can be at times due to damn Bob Bradley and our ownership.
future golden boy winner, matthew hoppe, starting vs eintracht (also, timmy chandler on the bench for eintracht)
just had a split second's thought of watching Schalke over Liverpool/Man U think I'll just put our new boy up on my laptop
I was thinking about this as well. The interesting thing to me is that he and Sargent are polar opposites, stylistically. Sargent looks pretty good at everything. He’s a solid, not great finisher, he presses really well, he can dribble a bit, his hold up play is good, etc. Hoppe is a guy that will be on the field to make runs and score goals, and anything else he gives you (as a 19 yo striker) is gravy. Not sure which guy would fit in better on the MNT.
Also, I guess to be fair to hoppe- I can’t tell if he’s actually good at pressing, but he does run his balls off on the pitch. His distance covered per 90 thus far in the bundesliga is quite high for a striker
wes on the bench in a big match vs inter, he’s been nursing some muscle tightness over the last week it seems dest starts in the super copa cup final vs athletic bilbao
Team Hoppe, everyone giving Sargent passes cause he's on a shit team but Hoppe making shit happen on a shittier team
Also to be fair to Sargent, Hoppe actually gets to play CF as opposed to being played out of his natural position on the wing or as a false 9 most games.
Another interesting note on Hoppe- his contract is up at the end of this season. If he keeps scoring the ball should really be in his court if he wants to explore his options and find the best situation.
I’ll be honest, I don’t want him starting but I wouldn’t be terribly upset to have him as like a 23rd guy/3rd ST for some experience on the bench.
Not trying to he confrontational, but match rating is such a weird comparative stat to me. It’s all opinionated on whoever is watching the game.
It is but I generally feel that by checking FOTMob and Whoscored after matches that it tends to be similar to what I thought watching matches so I trust their ratings I don’t think it’s an end all be all stat at all but I think it’s worth acknowledging that even with his scoring form that multiple outlets still feel Sargent has been playing better. I also expect that with Hoppe scoring with every shot he takes that it’s more likely he’s going to find his form fall off
My reasoning for that is this: I feel like I’m a very objective observer when I watch matches and understand enough to know who is playing well and who isn’t.
If I watched a match and was like this person was terrible and made a bunch mistakes but they’ve got him at a high rating, I’d probably go back and watch some things to see if I missed something.
i’m still fully on board the sargent train he’s lucky to get one half-decent chance a game, and it’s not like if/when those half-chances are taken he’s flubbing them by missing the target josh forces the keepers to generally make the save, and i believe he’s been on the unfortunate end of some great individual goalkeeping imo the rest of his game (build up/passing/link up play, work rate, pressing, and technical ability) is very promising when you consider his age and the teammates he’s surrounded with
Sarge plays like the tireless forward of a pressing team, except nobody else is pressing, and they also can't string together 4 passes.
Sarge is also a month away from being 21; Clint was at Furman and Jozy was busy never scoring for Hull at this age, for reference.
to me the value is that they're directionally accurate rather than an exact rating, so it's an easy way to get a feel for who played well and who didn't in matches I haven't watched. There are times when I look at Fotmob after a game I've watched and think that they over- or underrate a player vs my opinion, but 99% of the time they at least match my opinion of a player's performance vs the others on the pitch
I’ve seen Cannon play 0 minutes for Boavista but I’m interested to see where he ends up and for how much because I’m somewhat convinced the soccer media (or maybe his agent) is just trying to speak his next move into existence. I just have a hard time believing a RB on the bottom of the table club in Portugal with a below average rating and zero goal contributions is playing his way to a 10 mil € + move to a champions league club or EPL club.
Hes played the most minutes for Boavista this season I think I read and there’s already talk of him moving somewhere this summer. I haven’t watched but I was just assuming that is why Dallas is seemingly not willing to finalize a deal right now.
I’ve watched a little when they’re actually available to watch on Fanatiz. I’d say average rating not below average. I think he’s played every single minute for them since the transfer and is right there with their other defenders rating wise
Yeah that’s what I’m referring to. Seems crazy given the circumstances I mentioned but I haven’t seen him play.
After checking, he’s been subbed off twice so has played all but 55 minutes. He’s at 1205 Next 2 defenders are at 1110 and 756.
His club has conceded the second most goals in the Portuguese league and he’s 33/40 in avg whoscored player rating for RBs (without filtering for minimum appearances). Obviously he has some pedigree from his MLS days but I’m still a bit baffled since you never hear about a similar player, based on the above, attracting the interest he’s supposedly attracting.
Is it that those type of players aren’t getting those links or that we just aren’t paying any attention to it?
