I didn't even realize you could pick up the ball before a rules official got there and not have a penalty. I figured you always had to wait until they showed up.
Except Brooks’s ball didn’t bounce on camera, was in an area likely to embed, he didn’t blatantly lie, and he’s never had a reputation for nefarious actions like Reed.
Another reason why non-bifurcation sucks. You can’t expect rules officials to be roaming every amateur event, so it’s on the player to ultimately make the ruling.
We just have the other players in our group weigh in on the situation at our club. If it's still unclear then we call the clubhouse. *Also this is only for actual tournament events I'm referring to. Obviously you just do what you think is best during a random round.
Isn’t there some sad story about how he like disowned his family for no reason and his wife basically runs who is and isn’t allowed to be in his life? Think I read a piece on espn about his parents and sister and it just bummed me out that someone was that big of a piece of shit.
yes, he was kicked off his college team for cheating, doesn't talk to his family since, etc. he and his wife are sociopaths.
Holy fuck. He didn’t only pick up his ball, he already moved it before an official comes over? What a cheating fuck.
Also stole from his teammates at Georgia. Hell his own teammates at Augusta State wanted Harris to beat him in the individual match in the national championship
I’ve watched the few thirty seconds of this several times. The volunteer said she didn’t see it bounce. That doesn’t mean it didn’t bounce but it gives Reed the opening he needs to take advantage of the situation. He’s going over there trying to get a drop. I still can’t tell when he picked up the ball. It seems like he might have slightly leaned forward as he checked it to dimple the ground but it’s hard to tell if he had it in his hand at that point.
I don’t understand the Masters tweet. Why are people up and arms about that? Or are people saying this is just more proof that burner acct us Justine?
The second he picked the ball up he was going to give himself a better lie than what he had. I still can’t fathom why he picked it up and moved it 10 feet away.
i hate P Reed, but the full video makes it a little better for him. Asks about no bounce, tells playing partners, etc. he lost the benefit of the doubt long ago though and that’s why we are here
He sets the ball aside at the 50 second mark. He told Balionis that he “wanted to get the golf ball out of my hand so as not to clean it until it was confirmed embedded.” I think he picks it up very quickly after telling the other guys he’s going to check it. This is also baffling considering any other rules situations that come up, playing partners are generally given the chance to come over and give their opinion. Him immediately picking up the ball to check it after the volunteer says she didn’t see it bounce is questionable at best.
Exactly my take too after watching that full video. The reason he moved it to the side and sat it down right away is because if it were to be determined that it was not embedded by the official then he wouldn't have wanted to be seen cleaning or rubbing it as that would've been a rules infraction. Now, why he even picked it up prior to the rules official got there in the first place is a good question and is a very PReed move.
Also, great point from NLU this morning that only makes this whole thing even more weird: the mixed up tweet from Reed’s official twitter is still up (about Rory) and wasn’t deleted after Justine moved to the burner account. Golf Channel is constantly posting tweets from players, how can they ignore this whole burner debacle?
Can't blame the Tour on this though. That's on the Golf Channel likely caving to the pressure from the tour. The Tour is just doing what they think is in their best interest. Doesn't mean that the Golf Channel has to listen to them. They could and should be journalists first.
There’s way too much conflict of interest between the Tour and the Golf Channel. The #1 news source is state-run.
It doesn't and shouldn't have to be that way though. I hope some other mainstream media outlet picks up on that angle of the story so Golf Channel gets egg on its face and is forced to address it. Wouldn't surprise me if ESPN got on it. They love that type of shit.
Super Bowl is in a week though so ESPN probably too busy discussing what zany thing some OLineman from the Bucs says at media day.
Someone on Golf Central this morning said that he called a playing partner over to look at it though Edit: Todd Lewis talking about it now, he saw Rory’s situation and talked to him about it after
Brandel said it’s a low spot on 18. Doesn’t look good but this is not about Rory, he’s never given us reason to question his ethics.
