cold cuts - makes no sense to buy at a chain, you can get better quality and any grocery store deli and make your own. hot subs - it's usually low quality ingredients. i can get ingredients at the grocery store and make a better hot sub at home. just a few weeks ago i bought thinly sliced ribeye from my grocery store butcher, provolone, an onion, peppers, and fresh bread and made steak and cheeses. had enough to take to work the next day and it heated up nicely at work, toasted the cheese over the bread and everything. so, i don't see the point in going to a chain and it gives me the confidence to come into these threads and act like i'm above people
There is a Quiznos in the Denver airport and my friend made the same exact comment when we passed it there on Sunday. I lived around the corner from one in college but wasn’t a big fan. They always burnt the bread
You know I can probably make a good to great version of most everything I get at a restaurant besides Popeye's spicy chicken. No way I can do something that well. But that's not the point. What do you like when you don't want to cook or aren't able to cook? Subs are way up there for me.
lol you buy your ingredients at the store? talk about low quality... I grow all ingredients on my farm and slaughter a pig when I want a ham sandwich. really gives me the confidence to walk around grocery stores and act like I'm above people.
Blacksburg has one and it is godly and I miss it all the time. I occasionally am back in the area for business and I always try to snag one.
if i'm not eating something i prepared, i'm usually looking for fried chicken, bbq, or pizza. sometimes i will splurge on some pho at place in town. i only eat out a few times a month at most.
One thing I do know is if I was ever constipated, I would go to Subway. I guarantee my pipes will be clean within 30 minutes or less.
I occasionally have to eat subway at work. The cold subs are edible but pretty bad. The meatball sub was a guilty pleasure but they closed the one nearest to my house.
On the interstate with a couple of friends: “Where do you guys want to stop?” HOOSINSC: “Take me by my house, I’ve got cold cuts there”
In my town we have a rip-off. I think it was planned to be a sub station and something fell through but they just kept all the menu items, numbering system and everything else. Best subs in town and a charming passive-aggressive stance towards their customers.
Also Jersey Mike’s gluten free bread is pretty good but a bit on the pricey side compared to sandwich shop competition I have tried.
There’s this local cheese steak place that apparently makes ridiculously good cheese steaks. Owned and operated from a guy that moved here from Philly. Haven’t been yet but will if I can ever remember to call and ask about their bread selection. Taste of Philly is the name if anyone ever happens to be in the Lynchburg area.
I don’t eat subs very often, mostly because I try to avoid the heavy bread that comes with them. I mean, they’re delicious but I just try to eat something lighter when possible. I had heard great things about Firehouse from lots of folks and was excited to try it when I needed a quick meal between depositions. I recall it being just okay and not anything I would go out of my way for.
I would have voted Quiznos #1 about 20 years ago. Ate there 3-4 years ago and it was borderline disgusting.
I used to love Quiznos but the quality has suffered. If I’m choosing one for taste it’s Firehouse right now. I eat Subway more often than any of them just because it’s fast and easy and relatively diet-friendly but it’s so mediocre
I find that this is true of all kinds of chain restaurants. I think Subway used to be halfway decent 20 years ago. It sucks ass now.
The last time I went to Firehouse, they took away all of the hot sauces. I assume it was because of COVID. Booooo
You might be thinking of former user sparky. Not sure if he sold it to Firehouse but his sauce has fire fighter branding.
Jersey Mike's. I used to eat Quizno's all the time in HS but I don't remember the last time I saw a freestanding one. Had a sandwich from one at MSP a couple years ago. Was still good enough, especially for being in an airport.
Yeah my first job was at Quiznos, the subs were pretty expensive over a decade ago relative to the competition. Loved to toast the cookies in the oven, those things were delicious. The one I worked at closed like a year after I left (summer 08ish) and it's been a steep decline. I think the last time I ate at one was in 2013.
I picked jersey mike's but I'm a huge fan of the Tony Bolognavich ad campaign for Jimmy's John's. And the Jalapeno Jimmy chips are fire.
Top 3, in order. Jersey Mikes-Some variation of philly cheesesteak, kahuna/chipotle depending on what I'm feeling Firehouse-Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar Brisket Which Wich- Hot Pesto Chicken, provolone w/ tomatoes, bacon, garlic, oregano Not a big cold sub guy, have not ever had Penn Station because there are non near me.
Jersey Mikes would be top of the list but the one i go to always seems like the bread is tough as shit. Firehouse would be my 1 and Jersey Mikes a close 2. Also for my SC boys, I enjoy Grouchos.
can I just point out that every time people say they go some place and get diarrhea it just means they have an otherwise poor diet headlined by a severe lack of roughage? no normal person with a healthy diet gets diarrhea from eating fast food, you get diarrhea because you eat poorly everywhere else, too.
This is really dumb you piss out your butthole on fast food bc it’s shit food and completely different than normal diet
Meh. Take the healthiest eater on planet earth and run them through a Taco Bell and theres a pretty good chance theyre gonna be shitting their brains out in a little bit.
