Holiday Bar has my favorite French Dip in town, just had it again this week so its on my mind Donkey Taqueria or Luna are great choices for Mexican, I would also say taco el cunado but I think they're closed rn Butchers Union is just really good in general I could think of a bunch of places depending on the food you're looking for, those are just a couple that immediately came to mind.
drove over to Bay City State Park and walked out onto Saginaw Bay. There were tons of people out snowmobiling. Pretty cool spot for winter recreation, walked on the snowmobile tracks for a while and smoked a preroll. Will have to go on a nice summer day and impress all the sunbathing women with my reading tastes. Dispo in Bay City is a treasure
I was in GR all weekend and it’s a bitch without reservations. We had one at Tupelo Honey, which worked out just fine. But wanted to go get another drink with another couple and had to check 4+ places to do it. Tough to navigate at times.
This is a fair point, if you aren't planning on taking out, checking for reservations in case of dining in would probably be a good point. I imagine a sunday evening wouldn't be too arduous but that's a good tip nonetheless. Bonus though, is basically most of downtown is now in the 'refreshment zone' so you just walk around and open carry/drink between spots.
I'd honestly check out https://www.butchersuniongr.com/ menu and see how that looks to you, and like petere1588 mentioned checking for available table/reservation would be probably be wise.
Based on Google searches, that was where we were leaning. They don't do reservations. How far is that from the airport and is toward Grand Haven?
Yeah, the social zones are good ideas down there, and would totally be fine most of the time. With it being cold out and my wife 8+ months pregnant, no way in hell she’s standing outside while myself and another couple have a night cap. Ah well. We made it work.
Not sure how kid friendly you’d consider it but Mertens Prime is probably the best restaurant in GR right now.
I am also surprised but whatever I'll take it. I was actually going to go on Thursday. The Meijer by me is having a vaccination clinic, and if you show up at 5 when the clinic closes any doses left over, and they almost always do apparently, they start giving first come, first serve. Its how my friend got vaccinated last week. So that may be looking into for your area if that's happening too.
Congrats on having friends, folks. Looking forward to having some myself one day Sleeping Bear Dunes looks pretty damn sweet btw
Yes. Belvedere up in Charlevoix, Acadia Bluffs and the University Course in Ann Arbor are 3 that are worth driving for, but there are fantastic courses all over the state.
Ever played Muskegon Country Club? A member my wife works with says he can get them to offer us a 6 month membership. If so, we'll be joining in April
Yeah, you should do that. I’ve played there once several years ago. It’s pretty much the nicest course in Muskegon (not a huge bar to clear) but it also gives you access to Spring Lake CC, which is also a nicer course in the area. It’s worth looking into for sure.
Have a lot of users on their smaller packages and they're shit. Both the support and the consistency of the connections.
I had xFinity for the five years prior to WOW and it was a nightmare. Everyone’s situation is different, but I’ve had zero problems with outages until today.
MCC is a gem. Best greens in the area. The amenities are spartan but for golf and the price it’s a steal.
I'm not very familiar with golf in the west side of the state aside from Acadia. Acadia, Belvedere is on Golf Digest's top 100 public courses, Bay Harbor up by Petoskey is gorgeous, if a little random (27 holes, each 9 a different style). If you're only in Michigan for a short time I would make it a point to play the first two.
I’d play that American Dunes one in GH that’s opening this spring. Pilgrims Run is north of GR and is one consistently mentioned as a nicer public course. I’m sure there are more. I’ll think on it. There’s a lot of really nice courses but a lot of them are private in the greater west MI area. Can’t beat golf up north as discussed above.
I appreciate it. I'm looking for somewhere that has a game or group that I can join 2-3 times a week. I'm sure I'll travel around to play the better courses throughout the state on weekends
I see so many old trucks with rusted wheel wells. Hopefully that isn't common with newer models. Must be how the roads are treated here
When I first left Michigan and moved to Arizona, I was amazed to see old cars and trucks WITHOUT rusted wheel wells. Yes, it's the salt and stuff used on the roads.
I am biased, but I would say take the time to play the University Course in Ann Arbor. It is one of nine Alistair MacKenzie courses in the US outside of California or Augusta, GA. I guess there is another one up in Frankfort - Crystal Downs - that is awesome, but I've not played it. The U Course is hard, and some the greens are amazing, but it is always in great shape and Ann Arbor is great time in the summer.
SLCC sucks and not one member there would say it’s a better course than MCC. Social aspect is a diff story.
My friends that are members there would differ, but they both seem to be good courses from the few times I’ve played both. I don’t have a huge opinion on either other than what they’ve said.
