I saw some stuff that sounded good in the top half of the menu but I figure you don't go to a chophouse and not get a steak
Don’t get me wrong they have good steaks, but I struggle to justify spending $60 on something I feel I cook better
this is me, generally, with any steakhouse. I don’t really go to them at all, unless it was being picked up by my firm. That’s the only 2 times I’ve been to Halls, actually, l
...sometimes find myself contemplating the meaning of steak as a signifier of masculinity, and its social necessity as an object of commodified consumption, particularly insofar as my own ability to make it seems both superior to the commodity form and more indicative of authentic masculinity. This tendency of capital to coopt and strip of meaning key social values is how I became a radical.
This Murdaugh thing is wild. https://www.thestate.com/news/state/south-carolina/article251970618.html My first firm out of law school did defense work in Hampton County and I remember first being exposed to the reality of “litigating” in Hampton against Murdaugh. They have such a stranglehold on the area and are basically the reason that Hampton County can’t attract any type of business or economic development. Very sad and absolutely wild story thus far.
reading one article, it kinda seems good that those two got killed and that family got off really light for it to only be that
Wife said she heard Paul, the son, killed his mother and that Alex the father, killed Paul. Paul was going to try to frame the groundskeeper for his moms murder.
I’ve seen so many different rumors. Reddit detectives are all over this groundskeeper killing them because they fired him recently and now they’ve found he was fired as a teacher a decade ago for sexual assault.
this is the most logical explanation to me. one of the rumored alibi's for the father was he was out shooting. if the mother was killed with an AR- that's more of a young person's weapon. son killed with a shotgun. so not really a stretch to think dad comes in from shooting, sees what has happened and snaps
So now the leading theory on this is that it might have something to do with a death from several years ago? Rumor is the son beat someone to death and dumped him on the side of the road and it got swept under the rug as a hit and run. Wouldnt surprise me but that seems kind of out there as far as possibilities imo.
Yeah i first read it in a comments section of an article a week or so ago. It was someone claiming to be a family member of the person he supposedly killed. Then i read a legit article yesterday that said the police are now looking in that direction.
I have an in law from Hampton and he’s been saying this has been the #1 rumor around town since the morning of.
Chronicle of Higher Ed has an article this morning about male enrollment in college, which is down everywhere across the nation. They had demographic charts for each state and I thought it was interesting looking at schools in SC. I knew Clemson had more males than USC but thought it was a little closer maybe. Also knew CofC was one of your heavier female schools. Didn't realize Wofford was so male. Columbia College still says 0% male even though they started accepting them in the last few years to try to stabilize financially. Spoiler
lotta dudes at wofford. it's like they only accept one particular very white brand of dude. What's up with MUSC being at 17%?
That does seem wild. 855 students and only 150 are male? I don't know much about MUSC though, maybe certain programs skew heavily female
that was my thought. i just don't know what all is available to study at MUSC. it does seem like fields like biology and science are heavily female. my sister works in vaccine research and their new hires are have been north of 80% female for years now.
The trends have been that way for decades, and COVID seemed to lead to even more men ditching college. Then once you get to college, it happens again with women going out way more for extra stuff like study abroad, research, community service, etc. They are the "try hards" and guys are more meh. It's interesting to see if it will lead to some kind of equality or female dominated workplace or if status quo stays the same and college just gives women false hope. The article I read this morning was called "Where Are The Men" or something like that
in certain fields there has to be a levelling. like engineering will probably stay male dominated, but other fields like science and medical will see women take a big leap. with the boomers exiting the workplace we will see a big shift in executive and high level management. i think it's worth mentioning we are in a state where it is easy to make a good/very good living with a 2 year technical degree. Those labor jobs in manufacturing will probably continue to be male dominated unless they can find a way to recruit women into them. just solely basing this off of my sister's comments wrt their hiring, every woman's resume was loaded with extra curricular work, while the men that applied had almost nothing. they had to interview a certain number of males to keep up with hiring practices, but often the ones they interviewed didn't have a resume that would stack up with the rest of the candidates.
A whole thread of people admitting they went turncoat (turncoot?) https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-forum/thread/when-did-you-de-coot-2078042?tstart=0
https://www.thestate.com/news/local/article253222368.html it will soon be illegal to drive slow in the left lane.
Not clicking the article, and don't know it will work in principle, but I enthusiastically applaud the sentiment. Slow left lane drivers are the worst and I don't understand them
i hate slow left lane drivers, but rarely are any of them "below the speed limit". so i don't see how enforcement will workout. also in a few weeks i will finally be able to open carry in walmart or wherever the fuck else i want.
I was shocked first time I got pulled over for no seatbelt. How can you be looking up in my car before probable cause? They used to police it heavily in West Cola
So someone tried to kill the Murdaugh dad yesterday. Or he created a plot to make it look like someone did. Nothing would surprise me at this point.
Seems awfully convenient to have to change a tire on the way to Charleston for the weekend and someone comes up behind you and shoots you in the head
He said someone in a truck passed him when he was pulled over, turned around, came back and started shooting at him.
got caught embezzling money from his firm shot in the head resigns from firm enters rehab for unspecified addiction just a normal three-day weekend
Thread title got me in here and now I'm hooked on this Murdaugh situation. Sounds quite wild and crazy.
Yup. The ole Fletch-style "hire someone to kill you so your family can collect the life insurance", apparently. https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/15/us/murdaugh-shooting-arrest/index.html
