Atlanta wouldn't give them a 9 figure subsidy for the stadium and to "be closer to the fans" which really meant move farther from where black people live
Come up with every reason for white flight, and apply it to Liberty Media. You will not find a bigger hater of the current Braves ownership than me, and a bigger fan of the franchise prior to then, so it cuts deep.. Some surface level stuff Got a $500m welfare handout from citizens of Cobb County Cheap as fuck ownership refused to invest in 10 yr old existing ballpark. Same reason they penny pinch roster payroll and end up in the situation they have been post AOL-TimeWarner. Current Ownership was given a fairly good park that was bought and paid for by Ted Turner. Any modicum of construction in/around park would have cured legitimate issues around Turner Field. Those very investments are currently happening. 2 of best new restaurants in Atlanta are built within walking distance of old stadium Bad faith negotiation with City, they got thirsty that City extended 30 yr old tax to finance the $250m the MLS/NFL stadium got. Gross lack of community stewardship. Negotiation lasted like 10 days until the actual Cobb plan was revealed. But really the issue were the bad actors involved. All the worst forms of Republicans imaginable. The veneer of "moving to where the fanbase is located", the open disdain for public transport, and just open signaling of Atlanta's long rivalry (now actual dissipating rivalry) with Cobb County were racist bullhorns.
a Cobb politician (can't remember name or title) made it his goal to move the team and succeeded and then was immediately voted out at the first opportunity. It still baffles me to hell why Marta wasn't ever even extended to the OLD stadium back in the 90s when it was originally built FOR THE DAMN OLYMPICS.
Without traffic, like 25 minutes. But, it's Atlanta and there's always traffic, so closer to an hour under normal circumstances.
Like a lot of kids who grew up in the south in the 90s I was a huge Braves fan. Haven't really followed MLB in 10-15 years. If I did I would prob actively root against the Braves because of the moving the team bullshit.
Liked Dale Murphy, for some reason absolutely hated Bob Horner Neutral about Glenn Hubbard until he became an A, then I liked him Always enjoyed watching Hrabosky take the mound
I wonder if that’s a sign of something. Dude might have a health issue. I don’t remember his voice being so high
Conservatives are terribly unfunny. They aren't creative, belabor awful punchlines and generally take themselves way too seriously - a horrible combo for making humor work. I cringe watching this garbage.
Lmao. Florida is a two party state, and they want to break it for...that? We truly have the dumbest people running our governments
Read this piece this morning and found it extremely troubling and has me rethinking where I live even more
All that Texas flair on the wall I’d assume to compensate for the fact he’s from Massachusetts and went to Notre Dame.
"Hur dur people should have to take a test to vote." "Shit like that was historically used to disenfranchise minorities." "Well that was THEN."
And it's usually as much about poors voting as it is about minorities voting because poors vote for handouts and they don't deserve to have a say in my money. But that also overlaps with racism to a good extent.
I love when conservatives cite "tyranny of the majority" as it was used in the Federalist papers (Madison, I think). It was used to justify voting rights should only be given to the wealthy elites
That pisses me off because National Review at least touts itself as this high minded conservative outlet. I realize conservatism is basically devoid of intellectualism at this point but that's straight up a racist argument.
I once had a guy try to convince me that there should be a test you take to be able to vote. I thought it was absurd, but looking at conspiracy theories by the right, I might be on board.
The problem is the people who want the test would be writing the test and we're living in different worlds than those loons.
