Yeah, Reagan who campaigned for Goldwater in the South in 1964 on “states rights” (wink, wink). Reagan who invented the welfare queen trope in 1976. Reagan who went out of his way to speak about states rights in Philadelphia Mississippi in 1980, where three Freedom Riders were murdered. Reagan would be as full throated a racist as any of them today.

I don’t like the Dr. Frankenstein comparison when it comes to these people, it’s too intellectual of analogy. I compare it more to this scene in Tommy Boy: They fanned the flame of racism and once the first black president was elected they blamed him for dividing the country, unlike Dr. Frankenstein they never even acknowledged their role in creating the current environment.
