That was coming from the moment Jose subbed Sissoko on just expecting us to absorb pressure for the rest of the match.
Just read that we had 26.8% of possession after going ahead, but I’m sure it’s the players choosing to play like that
In 2021: 1-3 vs Liverpool 0-1 vs Chelsea 0-3 at City 1-2 at WHU 1-2 at Arsenal 1-3 vs United Get this man out of our fucking club
I'm less interested in re-litigating where everyone was on Jose back in January -- I'm presuming we all had various opinions, some of which weren't at all consistent -- and more concerned on what happens moving forward. The entire organization is a gigantic mess right now.
There’s nothing to be gained by keeping him around. Top 4 is gone, top 6 is a stretch, and we’re going to get run off the field in the cup final. Jose has alienated half the team, and the rest of the league has caught on to his tactics, such as they are.
I don't disagree -- I thought he was a poor fit when they hired him -- clearly sees himself as bigger than Spurs (*if he had managed to win at Spurs he would have jumped at a chance at a bigger job if it presented itself). Plus all the negative football. I gotta say though... I'm surprised at how quickly this has fallen apart. I shouldn't be surprised, given all the other sports teams I support (need to keep reminding myself it can always get worse), but I am. Anyway, yeah, he has to go... bigger questions are who the next manager is, who they sell Kane to and how they spend the money.
I'm optimistic by nature so I think bringing on an attack-minded manager, selling a few shit assets and investing in the defense could have us solidly top 4 again. Maybe Levy and ENIC would sell and we could get some cash infusion.
Who is buying our shit assets though? Maybe we can get a little bit of money for Dele or Sanchez, but Winks, Sissoko, Dier aren’t bringing in anything. I’d sell GLC if we could get a return on him, too.
It’s the best thing to do. Blow it up and start over. We’re the 2017 Giants and we trade (sell) Bumgarner and Posey (Kane and Son).
Soccer is much different then baseball. It's never a good idea to sell a global superstar, especially one so responsible for our goal scoring like Kane. No matter how much money you get the chances are slim you'll be able to replace his productivity. Just look at what we did with the Bale money. Bought all kinds of players with it but only 1 was worth anything, and none of them came close to replicating Bale's output. Until Kane says he wants out we shouldn't at all entertain offers for him.
Kane has 3 years left on his contract. No reason to sell unless were blown away with an offer. The English media have been trying to sell Kane ever since his breakout season.
If we don’t sell him and Son we’re literally going to get nothing out of them. We aren’t going to win anything in the next few years. The only guaranteed way not to replace their productivity is to keep them until they’re worthless. Then we’ll be missing their productivity as well as the cash we could have used to try and replace them.
I can't disagree more. You build around players like Kane and Son. Those are the players you try to buy when you are a big time team. To think we should sell them makes no sense to me unless you think we have no aspirations, and I don't think we have invested like we have no aspirations over the past couple of years.
You don’t get anything for tanking. You do build a reputation as a stepping stone club. Price him at the transfer record + €1.
If you think this mess can be fixed in a year or two, yeah I guess it makes sense to keep them. I think it’s going to take a lot longer (especially if we keep vacillating back and forth between different playing styles). And by the time we’ve got other players in place we’ll have to replace Son and/or Kane anyways because they either won’t be good enough anymore or they’ll want to leave. Best to just sell them now while their values are at their highest points and maximize our return. The only thing that really scares me about selling them is that I don’t think Levy would do a great job reinvesting the money. If we had a great DoF I wouldn’t have any reservations.
Why would we get nothing for them? If their contracts get down to only a year left, and they aren't willing to extend, then you can look into selling them. We're not close to that point with Harry. I'm not sure how much is left on Sonny's deal. We get more TV money with them because we finish higher in the standings. We get Europe money from them because we actually qualify for those competitions. We sell more jerseys and tickets with them being on the team. Saying "we'd get nothing from them" if they play the rest of their careers with Spurs is a very short sighted view. I also highly highly doubt Kane is going to run down his deal with us and leave for free. This is his boyhood club and not once has he ever expressed wanting to leave. If he does express that then give him his wish and sell him. But I see no point in selling him now with 3 years left on his deal because the above has a tiny chance of happening. We're still potentially a top 6 team with a complete moron as manager. With a competent manager we could easily compete for top 4 in the coming years. The competition isn't that strong right now as everyone is pretty mediocre besides City. Liverpool never sold Gerrard even though they weren't top 4 for plenty of years during his career. A home grown player like Harry only comes around once in a generation. He's worth way more to Spurs then he would be at any other team. He's the face of the club and the reason most people know/watch the team. You could also argue Sonny is worth more then just his play on the field with how many Asian fans/the Asian market be brings to the team. O and no to mention THEY'RE BOTH WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. You don't sell world class players unless you have to. The sole reason we even have a chance at top 6 is Harry and Son. Take those two off our team and we'd be closer to relegation then top 6. Stop talking about re-building as if we're some mid to lower level team. We're a top 10-12 valuable team in the world worth close to $2 billion. Do whatever you have to do to keep them/re-sign them and then build around them.
Pretty sure the team won't be in a financial situation to keep Son and Kane if they don't make europa next year. On another note, can y'all imagine if there were fans in attendance yesterday?
I don’t think I could care less about about team valuations or jersey sales or merely competing for top 4 relative to whether or not we actually win something. On a scale with winning something on one end and everything else on the other end, I’m 100% for winning something. I seriously doubt we are going to win anything within the next few years. We had our chance 3-4 years ago to make a serious investment in the squad to take advantage of the prime years of our core of players to legitimately cement ourselves as a top 2-3 club and perennial title challenger, but Levy pissed it away. Currently, most of that core of players is either out of their prime years (Toby, Lloris, Rose), no longer with the club (Eriksen, Walker), or a combination of the above (Dembele, Jan, Wanyama). All we’ve got left are Kane and Son (and Dele too I guess but who knows what’s going on with him). They’re both in their prime now and are carrying us, but by the time we finally surround them with players good enough to win something they’ll both be starting to decline as players and will lose value both on the pitch and in the transfer market. It’s just the facts of life as players age, especially for players that have run as much and suffered as many injuries as they have. The Kane-Son iteration of Tottenham is not going to win anything (thank you so much Daniel). It’s better to sell them now for as much as we can and start on the next version of Spurs than it is to hold on to them and hope they can drag us to Europa and sell enough tickets and jerseys so that our squad isn’t completely depleted when their bodies finally give out. It sucks to go back to being a selling club, but that’s the model that got us here and maybe next time we’ve got a squad with only small weaknesses and we’re within distance of making that final step and grabbing a spot among the truly big clubs we’ll have a chairman who recognizes the opportunity for what it is and doesn’t let it slip away. Until then, we can have success the same way Dortmund, Leipzig, Monaco, Lyon, and Lille are having success.
Lol on the broadcast yesterday Lee Dixon said Kane dropping deeper this season was a clear sign he was on the decline. Somehow he didn’t mention the new role has contributed to him being tied for the lead league in goals and being the league leader in assists.
Depends on what the state of your squad is. If the squad is young and improving (Spurs 2017/2018), then I’d want to hold on to players longer in the hopes of winning and attracting more talent in the short term. If your squad in general is declining (Spurs now), then yeah I agree it’s best to sell early.
The margins between 3rd and 7th are so small though. It’s not like it’d take a drastic change to get us back in the top 4 next year. A solid CB would probably do it. And actually signing whatever young attacking midfielder that we’ve come close to signing the past few years (Grealish, Bruno) would probably clinch it. I’d like for us to go after Eze from CP as the young attacking player.
