ISP routers are notoriously dogshit, especially the wifi. From everything g you said I think it’s pretty certain it’s the router. There are free trials of professional software that’s used to measure wifi strength (I can’t remember the name of it though) you could try as a double check.
i really want to got it, they are installing it around my area now, but it’s like a $750 upfront cost plus $100/mo service.
$750 upfront seems outrageous. Do you live in a rural area or something? Anyway, It might be worth it to let them install the fiber in your neighborhood and then wait for the inevitable promo if you can live with your current speed
Blacksburg VA. It’s a totally local fiber company doing it, not one of the major people so I guess that’s why there’s an install cost. My internet is fine now, so I’m not really in need, but it would be nice to have great speeds. Edit: been a while since I checked them out. They still don’t have install in the area. I guess this past year they just got the conduits in place.
Does anyone have VR? I built my pc last year to be able to do it, but I still haven’t gotten into it. Thinking of the steam setup when I do eventually decide to pull the trigger.
I had an Oculus rift that I used for a bit then sold on Ebay. I didn't use it that much and ended up watching more porn than playing games.
Stopped booting for no reason a little bit ago Recognizes both SSDs but neither as bootable God damn it Could be corrupted windows install I guess update: whatever offbrand ssd they included with this appears to be dead af. oh well
This is the first thing I did when I moved into our new house when my ISP came out to get it set up. Also, USB wife sticks are notoriously terrible. Unless you pay top dollar for them and get lucky, you're still going to struggle getting consistent latency. I bought about 3-4 over the course of 6 months when I was remodeling my last house and had to temporarily move my office and all were bad. Some came with their own software which was also terrible. My mobo didn't have a WiFi chipset so I just bought 100 feet of Cat5e and lived with it since it was temporary.
To reduce my dependence on wifi for devices without an ethernet port, especially ones that are finnicky, I keep a handful of these ethernet adapters around the house. For instance, my $1500 work laptop with all the bells and whistles cannot hold a strong enough wifi signal on video calls, so I hardwire. I have them for USB-C, USB-A, and microUSB which probably means anything in the house that has an ethernet port could be hardwired. Overkill for most situations, but until WIFI gets better, they are a no brainer $8-15 investment. They reduce your ping as well, to bring it back to gaming.
I’m not sure. I’ve never used one. I imagine they’re similar to the ones that come as part of an actual motherboard so theoretically they should be better.
Any Stellaris fans? It was on sale this past weekend so I picked it up. Looks like a game I would enjoy - spent a few minutes in the tutorial and I feel like I'm way over my head. UI seems similar to Crusader Kings which I've played for about 15 hours and still have no clue what I'm doing or should be doing.
I saw that and thought about picking it up but the first 5 comments were all like "steep learning curve" so I was like nah
One of my buddies has been begging me to play Conquerer's Blade with him. Anyone try this? It appears to be a Russian mmo lol
mega pet peeve about more modern games allowing duplicate keybindings. battlefield is the #1 offender here but i was just about to fire up deus ex: mankind divided for the first time and they allow it too.
How's this remaster been, for anyone that's played it? Currently have some free time and have been nostalgia binging FF7 and 9. Was planning to finally play through Automata, curious if this is worth picking up and running through first.
i use esdf to move instead of wasd. you can literally have move forward and shoot as the same key if you're not careful it's just not friendly to people who rebind keys
Definitely play Automata first this one is a lot slower but fun so far combat isn't nearly as fluid as Automata
the first non-doom/dark forces shooter (arrow keys movement) i played was voyager: elite force. the default movement keys were esdf.
I need some help with Warzone on PC... Specs: Skytech Gaming - Shadow Desktop AMD Ryzen 5 3600 16gb Ram NVideia RTX 2060 Super 500gb ssd Playing on a LG 55" BX Hard wired connection, pay for 1000mbps up and down. Normally get 400 download, 800 upload. For a few months now my game stutters when I get into heavy action. It can be anything from audio cutting out for a second, to screen freezing for a second, all the way to my screen and audio freezing for up to 10 seconds. I've gone through different settings in the game without any success in making it better. It normally only happens in close combat situations, if we're engaged in a gunfight a couple of hundred meters out no problems, if we push a building or have someone push in on us it freezes badly. I've made sure to turn off PC recording, and NVidia highlights/game clips. I've never had any problems with any other games lagging, stuttering, or screen tearing or anything like that. Originally when it would do this I'd notice latency spikes during the freeze and it would come down after. The last couple of weeks it's been behaving the same way but it's showing it as FPS drops. On the kill cam, it looks like I'm AFK and then I lag across the room. On my screen, I'm frozen solid. My teammates also see me as AFK, running in a straight line or sitting perfectly still, and then sometimes will lag jump. Any tips?
My buddy has had consistent latency problems with it for awhile now too. He has a 10th gen i7 and whatever the top end Radeon card is with gigabit internet. Zero issues in any other game as well Apparently it's a known issue, in the community at least. Not much help but you're not alone
Starting to get sick of waiting for GPUs to become available again. Who has a pre-built PC they bought and would recommend? I'm a poor so my budget is probably only 1200-1500. TIA
I believe 1080, I've changed different video settings before and haven't noticed anything that has fixed it. Well that sucks
That Newegg ABS one has been great other than the ssd it came with shitting the bed. If they're in stock you can get 2 day shipping
if you are rubber banding around, that is almost definitely internet/connection related or an issue within the game. Doug
My only thought there is I play on Xbox also and have never had issues there. Both are hard-wired connections, and I generally have a great connection. Not saying that can't be the issue, but I'm hesitant to blame it all on that.
I didn't even reach out because it was only 512gb and I wanted a 2tb. Newegg is good about that stuff though so I assume they would have
Interesting. if you have all the latest game patches, updated drivers etc, then that likely points to it being the second thing....an issue with that specific game. With the norm of today's gaming (the game's software is changed weekly in line with updates/patches), I expect these issues to crop up occasionally, but simultaneously expect them to be fixed on that next update. If your issue persists, it might be a fringe case due to your specific setup. If I was you, I would read the patch notes, and/or use the report a bug feature within COD.
Any Resident Evil fans? I haven't played probably since the old PS2 days- but I loved the game and series growing up. I see a new one is coming out this week. Thinking of picking it up a nice single player game.
I have similar specs as Doug, except 2070s instead of a 2060. Ive noticed runner banding problems over the last couple of months playing cod. No issues on other games though.
Currently baffled by this issue when I close out of a game, sometimes even alt tab, my keyboard disconnects about half the time. it will blink on and off pull the usb cable. Once I put the cable back in, everything works fine. I have a steelseries apex pro keyboard. I built this new pc about a month ago and I didn’t have this issue on the previous machine. I’ve reinstalled drivers, fiddled with usb power options, and other random shit and still can’t figure this out.
not sure what year my Digital Storm build will come. But what monitor should i get for my 3080 that will be obsolete by the time i actually get to use it.
