Just playing like a mid-table team and we’re top 4. It’s so frustrating because the opportunity was right there.
I think he’ll be ok, but if you don’t think there’s a real chance that this is his last season with Spurs, your head is firmly in the sand.
For some reason Twitter links aren’t working. But Ally Gold has an article out today stating there’s growing belief that Mourinho will not be at the club next season.
No clue who we’ll hire, but even if we end up with Potter or Parker, it’ll be worlds better than this shit.
Are we assuming Nagelsmann is a pipe dream? He’s the name most mentioned but feels unattainable. I like Potter and Parker over the dinasaurs being mentioned - Moyes and Ranieri (surely Ranieri was just tabloid garbage). I’d rather have an up and coming coach over another retread.
I refuse to believe Nagelsmann is a real possibility, but if it happens I’ll obviously be over the moon. I think Potter, Parker, Rodgers, and Gerrard are all names we’ll hear and I’d be a bit surprised if our next manager wasn’t in that group.
Lol my friend who just funnels me apple news articles about Tottenham without paying any attention to the sport shot me a “Spurs dream solution not happening” article this morning. Our dream solution? Apparently Rodgers. It instead diverted that we probably have to settle with Nagelsmann instead (who RBL would refuse to let go to direct rivals in Bayern). Suuuuure, “settle.”
Lots of talk that Flick is taking the Germany job and Naglesmann to Bayern. Almost seems like it’ll be surprising if that doesn’t happen at this point
Well then now I’m upset I laughed about Germany losing to N Macedonia if it’s just going to domino effect us into Spurs losing a chance at JN.
I think I’ve read they’ve placed a pretty steep price to pull him away. $15M-$20M range I believe. If Bayern really want him I’m sure they’ll pay, but Nagelsmann is under contract so he can’t just walk.
Well, I guess this solidifies our spot in the Big 6 and settles our finances as well. Now we just need to get the right players and management in place.
Pretty much every year near the end of the fifa cycle, I create a super pyramid and just stack the English pyramid with the top 100 or whatever teams, try and play my way from the bottom to the top. It never works quite right since CL spots are still given to the now shitty continental domestic leagues, but it’s interesting anyways for like a few hours of my time.
To say he hasn't invested is just carrying on the cliche. They invested in one of the most expensive stadiums and practice facilities in the world and certainly put money into the team the last two years. You can argue it should have been all along, but clearly he had to pick and choose how to spend money because the stadium wasn't building itself. Sucked during those years, but I think the times of nickel and diming are mostly behind us.
"In addition, the competition will be built on a sustainable financial foundation with all Founding Clubs signing up to a spending framework. In exchange for their commitment, Founding Clubs will receive an amount of €3.5 billion (£3bn) solely to support their infrastructure investment plans and to offset the impact of the COVID pandemic. "
Now we just waste money on shitty managers and overpay for bad players. $19 million/year on worthless Jose. $18 million for Doherty who's trash. $13 million on Rodon who should still be in the Championship. $12 million for for Clarke who couldn't even get on the field in the Championship. $33 million on Bergwijn who can't even make our bench. $30 for Sessegnon who got shipped off for playing time. $50+ million for GLC who's a complete question mark almost two years in. Ndombele, Hojberg maybe Reguilon are our only quality signings in the last 2+ years. Until we get competent director on board I have no faith Levy will actually spend money wisely.
I would love to look back and see what your opinion was on each of those signings at the time. Hard to say who is anything as Jose clearly forces players out of their style and comfort zone. We are not the only club that buys players who don't work out and 12-18 mil in this market for young or English players is not exactly breaking the bank.
GCL I liked and still have hope for, but he's made of glass. Bergwijn I thought was a terrible overpay in January that clearly Jose forced Levy to do. Rodon and Doherty were attempts to put band aids on gaping wounds. Rodon has no business playing on a top 6 team and Doherty was clearly a RWB and we barely ever play that formation. Clarke wasn't a huge price tag but other then Dele I can't think of a young guy like who we bought on the come up and developed into a quality player. Dier for a couple years I guess until he turned to shit? Our academy also hasn't produced a good player since Kane. Just goes back to our scouting dept being terrible for a long time now. Our facilities are all great but we don't employ quality people who make the important decisions.
I thought Doherty would be able to transition to a RB in a 4 man back line and that he’d been good in the league and was a good purchase. I was very wrong
The combined amount we paid for Clarke and Lo Celso is pretty close to what United paid for Fernandes. Just saying.
I don’t think Fenandes was a money decision. It was scouting and player preference. I too wanted him over GLC, and that is not revisionist.
we'll be the Pittsburgh Pirates of this league. Owners cashing the checks with little incentive to invest in talent because there's no relegation. Beautiful stadium, little else.
I’ve seem this sentiment out there on Spurs Twitter and i get the cynicism. But Levy is not joining the Super League to finish in the bottom 5 every year without a fight. He knows that’ll lead to unrest and his pride and joy - the new stadium - will be half empty. He’s not going to want that. I’m certainly not saying he’s going to spend like the top, top clubs. But he won’t just be sitting back and doing nothing. He’ll at least want to be competitive.
Was the rumor true he wouldn't take the squad out to practice this morning? Or just fluff and he was to be fired today anyway?
lol fuck it, give him a # and start him on Wednesday (if we haven't been booted from domestic football by then) .
