Actually a good position for this league to spin to. A big problem in European football that has developed over the last 50 years, and particularly the last 25, is decline in quality of the leagues outside of the top 4. The top 4 leagues are where they are due to a combination of factors, including being cartels themselves. Future franchises would allow for them to put teams in cities that can handle a big team, but can’t right now because of the size of their domestic market. UEFA have perpetuated that issue by being resistant to leagues merging. The Benelux league is 20 years too late.
and don’t you know the welfare clubs are going to try and spin this as something other than the lovely gesture it is
it calls itself a european competition on its website but the official name being the super league it pretty telling that they will eventually make this transcontinental
So finance bros thought the way to make a killing off soccer was to give top brands around Europe ungodly sums of money with zero incentive to actually care who wins the games with the low bonuses, and hope that no one gives a shit about poor play or missing out on tradition? God Bless America.
I’m guessing the underwriting on this deal assumed the big teams in Germany and France would join. If it’s 4 relevant England teams, two irrelevant England teams, Italian teams no one really cares about outside Italy, and 3 Spanish teams I don’t see how that makes money. Especially if the other teams in the English, Spanish, and Italian leagues decide they don’t want to be a part of a play in where they get fucked financially
So where do we actually go from here? Seems like the Super League is destined to happen with all the resignations that went through. Feels like now it's just a matter how much money FIFA and UEFA are willing to spend to fight the Super League legally.
Yeah I can get it from the owners perspective but how on earth do they expect to make enough off TV rights if these clubs continue to be less watchable and play other less watchable squads? Be awesome for Wall St to lose a few billion on this.
Arsenal have a worldwide fanbase who spend a ton of money. that's all that matters. I thought this was obvious.
Arsenal are in a lull in their history. Doesn’t change the fact they are one of the most valuable teams in the world with a global fanbase.
you’ve obviously never been to Jersey/Philly because you can’t swing a stick of gabagol without hitting some fake ass 6th gen Italian like zeberdee
I'm glad that the ESL has brought back Gallant Knight shit posting. Thought he was a goner after villa bottled the lfc match
...I mean it’s clear that Liverpools owners only moderately care about winning they spent £0 in January and let the best player on the Red Sox walk because of money not sure what to tell you bud
Top clubs want to remain on top without spending tons of money to remain on top by proposing a walled garden more news at 11
sucks that a little old mom and pop shop like the sox couldnt afford a greedy and expensive player like mookie. alas
If made a Soccer Board mod I’d only allow fans of Super League participant clubs* into the relevant thread(s). Please keep this in mind moving forward. *but not Illini because obviously

TMB: They don't want a league on sporting merit, they just want the most money Gallant Knight with the gotcha: The teams aren't even good, they just have the most money!
