Can't decide if the Rs turning full on into the conspiracy theory wing of the party is good or bad long term for the country.
Yes, I don’t think most people ever thought we could let in an autocrat. If it is a battle of ideology on issues I’ll take our chances that our side will eventually win over the people due to numbers alone. When it’s a battle of democracy versus autocracy and rigging the deck I get more concerned, because if that hurdle is fully crossed the only option is revolution against it.
It depends upon the ability of a Trump to harness it. The country as a whole is not voting for Ted Cruz or Josh Hawley as president.
Yeah I think it's bad to have people hold public office who think there's a child sex ring under a pizza place or whatever but also most of these people are super off putting to the majority of Americans and could very well be a liability nationally for the rest of the party.
It doesn’t matter if Trump is able to harness it because every candidate that gets the GOP nod is going to be right out of the Trump mold but more capable than Trump. Whether it’s DeSantis, Kemp, Cotton or Noem, they will all ride the conspiracy theories into all out fascist government because there’s no consequences if they fail. Tl:dr - Eat Arby’s
They still have the ability to redraw maps and minority rule due to the EC, so technically it's not great Bob, but this country has been poorly run since forever, so other than being slightly dumber, would we be able to tell the difference?
Right, but it still takes someone with the media personality to carry the general election. There is no chance in hell that a guy like Romney or Bush wins the GOP nomination in the near term. There isnt anyone but Trump who can play nationally on this platform now.
The only way it would work is if 65% of the population realIzed how terrible they were and more progressives got elected as a result
Media is a mirror of politics. When Obama banned Fox News the actual Mainstream Media backed Fox and agreed not to attend. I don't see Fox reciprocating here. This is similar to Democrats respecting the filibuster now. Republicans won't if they have a similar situation.
Where would you put odds that we'll be full blown fascist after '24? Seems like a pretty good chance that it happens. Imo, avoiding that fate depends on an opposition party making a convincing case to the American people that we are in real jeopardy of losing our country. I don't know how you do that in this environment with so much noise -- Facebook, Fox, etc.
As long as you suppress the public’s ability to learn through the destruction of public policy and aggravate their racism through media, it seems it actually is a viable long term strategy.
this is a very dangerous argument and one that I could unfortunately see having success. There are a lot of younger people who care about the environment and are struggling to find work/underemployed. If they argue that immigrants are stealing their jobs and harming the environment, I could see it working on some people. They can sleep at night with their racism because they will sell themselves that it has to be done for the environment. We’ve learned in the last decade that facts and the truth mean very little these days. I hope republicans don’t ever properly formulate this argument.
Yea thats what I was getting at. A lot of these businesses blame that rather than their pay and working conditions.
I mean I feel bad the Newk's nearest me closed, but I was really just going for the free pickles and refills.
The media has already been fawning over DeSantis and Nikki Haley, and while I could never see Haley being a presidential candidate for the GOP a DeSantis/Haley ticket would give the Messi wet dreams.
The opposition party can avoid that fate by actually doing something that makes people’s lives better and taking actions to prevent voter suppression, but alas the democrats have senators who value the filibuster more than they value people’s rights/lives.
Agree that substantive laws could go a long way in demonstrating that the Ds care more about the avg. citizen than the Rs do. That the Rs are completely bereft of any real ideas to govern America. If you're not going to pressure Manchin, then force a vote on returning the filibuster to what it used to be.
This is worded terribly. Is it a bill to simply outlaw incentivizing the documentation, or is it a bill that outlaws the production of the documentation *and* incentivizing it?
A Texas Republican filed a bill to stop this here then publicly came out against his own filed bill when an adult explained to him it would hurt the Horn’s in state crootin against Georgia and Bama.
All you need to know about the Michigan GOP can be summed up by googling their co-chairs: Ron Weiser Meshawn Maddock One old time Republican venturing back into grevience politics and one racist, white-trash Trumper who organized and led the Michigan contingent to the Insurrection.
I feel like the star wide receiver having to share with a swimmer is a race play. Probably overthinking but I feel what I feel.
Gotta admit, when I first read it I didn’t even think about that money going to non-football/basketball athletes. Shortsighted of me.
